To rotate sermons in a 24/7 YouTube live stream, set up looping in the encoder sending the broadcast—not with YouTube’s viewer-side repeat button. In OBS, use a looping Media Source for one sermon or a VLC Video source with a playlist for several sermons. YouTube receives the resulting feed through your stream URL and stream key.
Choose the right repeat control
YouTube’s repeat controls affect what an individual viewer watches. They do not change the video feed sent to your live broadcast. To choose which sermon plays next, configure playback in the encoder—in this setup, OBS Studio.
Prepare the channel and recordings
- Check livestream eligibility. YouTube requires a verified channel with no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. First-time live-stream enablement can take up to 24 hours, so enable it before the planned broadcast.
- Put the sermon files where OBS can access them. Save the recordings locally on the computer that will run OBS, and decide whether you want one sermon to repeat or several to play in a set order.
Configure OBS to repeat one sermon or rotate several
Repeat a single sermon
- In OBS, add a Media Source to the scene you intend to stream.
- Select the sermon recording as the source’s media file.
- Enable Loop in the Media Source settings so playback restarts when the file ends.
- Play the source in OBS and check that both the picture and audio are present before connecting the broadcast.
Rotate a playlist of sermons
- Install VLC on the computer running OBS.
- In OBS, add a VLC Video source and load the sermon files in the order you want them played.
- Enable Loop Playlist. Leave shuffle off if the playlist should follow a fixed order.
- If you use 64-bit OBS, install 64-bit VLC; OBS documents that the VLC source requires VLC and that the 64-bit versions must match.
- Play through the files, including the final file returning to the first, and check transitions using the actual recordings. OBS documents playlist looping but does not guarantee gapless transitions.
Connect OBS to YouTube Live
- In YouTube Studio, open the Live Control Room and create or schedule an encoder stream.
- Copy the stream URL and stream key shown for that stream into OBS’s streaming settings.
- Treat the stream key like a credential: anyone who has it may be able to send a feed to your broadcast. Do not publish it or include it in a public scene.
- Start streaming from OBS, then check the preview in Live Control Room before relying on the public broadcast. Confirm the expected sermon is playing and that the audio is audible.
Keep the broadcast running reliably
An OBS-based 24/7 stream depends on the computer, OBS, the sermon files, power and internet connection remaining available. YouTube recommends testing, previewing and monitoring the stream, and allowing upload-bandwidth headroom; a network disruption can break a stream.
- Test the full playlist and audio levels before the scheduled start.
- Keep the computer awake, OBS open and media files accessible for the entire session.
- Monitor the broadcast for dropped connections, frozen video or missing audio. A loop setting controls playback, not network availability.
Plan saved replays around YouTube’s archive limit
YouTube says encoder streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. It does not promise archiving for streams longer than 12 hours. If a saved replay matters, plan broadcast sessions to end before that threshold and restart as needed; do not assume a longer continuous stream will be archived.

Common problems and fixes
- The same sermon keeps playing. Check that you added a VLC Video playlist rather than a single Media Source, and that the playlist contains the other recordings. For one file, repeating that file is the expected result.
- The playlist stops at the end. Open the VLC Video source settings and enable Loop Playlist. If a fixed order matters, turn shuffle off.
- OBS cannot use the VLC source. Make sure VLC is installed and its version matches OBS’s architecture; 64-bit OBS requires 64-bit VLC.
- YouTube does not show the OBS feed. Check that OBS has the correct stream URL and stream key for the encoder stream currently open in Live Control Room, then check the preview.
- The picture or sound is missing. Verify that the source file is accessible and plays in OBS, then check the scene and audio before going live.
- The stream disconnects. Check the internet connection and available upload bandwidth, then restore the encoder feed and monitor the preview. Looping alone cannot prevent a network interruption.
