To loop a finished guided body scan continuously into YouTube Live, put FFmpeg’s input option -stream_loop -1 before the media file’s -i option, pace the file with -re, then send an encoder-compatible output to the server URL and stream key shown in YouTube Studio. The example below is a starting point, not a universal command: match its frame rate, bitrate, codecs, and audio settings to your file and YouTube’s current guidance.
What the loop options do
-stream_loop -1 tells FFmpeg to repeat an input indefinitely. It is an input option, so place it before the corresponding -i. The -re option reads a file at its native rate, pacing it for a live output rather than sending the whole recording as quickly as the computer can process it. FFmpeg documents these options in its command-line documentation.
For a single file containing both the meditation video and its narration or music, a basic command shape is:
ffmpeg -re -stream_loop -1 -i "body-scan.mp4"
-c:v libx264 -preset veryfast -tune stillimage
-r 30 -g 60 -keyint_min 60 -sc_threshold 0
-b:v 4500k -maxrate 4500k -bufsize 9000k
-c:a aac -b:a 128k -ar 44100
-f flv "rtmps://YOUR_YOUTUBE_INGEST_URL/YOUR_STREAM_KEY"
This illustrative command assumes a file with video and audio, H.264/AAC encoding, a 30 fps output, and an RTMP-compatible FLV destination. Its 4,500 kbps video setting is not a universal YouTube recommendation. Choose bitrate for your selected resolution, frame rate, and codec using YouTube’s current encoder settings, and leave upload headroom.

Prepare the file and choose output settings
Check the media streams first
Before building the command, inspect the recording with ffprobe to confirm its video and audio streams, dimensions, frame rate, and audio format. The example’s -tune stillimage may suit a mostly static meditation visual, but it is not a requirement. If the file is audio-only, has separate narration and music inputs, uses a variable frame rate, or needs scaling, adapt the mapping and encoding rather than assuming the example fits.
When the video and audio are separate finite inputs, loop each input that must continue. For example, apply the loop option before each relevant -i; looping only the video does not make a separate audio input repeat. If the audio ends while the video continues, the live output may become silent. Confirm that the streams remain synchronized across a loop boundary.

Set frame rate, keyframes, and bitrate
The sample uses -r 30 and -g 60, which sets a 60-frame GOP—two seconds at 30 fps. If you change the output frame rate, adjust the GOP so keyframes remain about two seconds apart. YouTube recommends a two-second keyframe interval and says not to exceed four seconds. For H.264 at 1080p30, YouTube currently recommends 5 Mbps; its table gives different values for different resolutions, frame rates, and codecs, so do not apply that figure to other formats without checking the table.
The sample uses constant-bitrate-style settings: -b:v, -maxrate, and -bufsize. YouTube’s RTMP/RTMPS guidance calls for CBR. The audio options in the example encode AAC at 128 kbps and 44.1 kHz; YouTube recommends 128 kbps stereo audio at a 44.1 kHz sample rate. Verify the actual channels and source before selecting audio settings.

Create the YouTube Live event and protect its key
- Open YouTube Studio’s encoder setup workflow and create or select the Live event you intend to use.
- Copy the server URL and stream key supplied for that event. Use the ingestion method YouTube presents; the sample command is for an RTMP-compatible FLV output.
- Put the destination in your command in place of the example URL and key. Treat the stream key like a password: do not publish it in a script, screenshot, public repository, or log. If it is exposed, replace or reset it in YouTube Studio.
- Start FFmpeg and check its output for connection or encoding errors. In YouTube Studio, wait for the incoming feed and review stream health before starting the event for viewers.
- Stop FFmpeg when you want to stop sending the encoder feed. YouTube says stopping encoder content ends the stream.
YouTube’s RTMP/RTMPS guidance lists H.264, H.265, and AV1 video, up to 60 fps, and AAC or MP3 audio. It recommends RTMPS as the secure variant of RTMP. The example uses H.264/AAC; use settings compatible with the ingestion method and event you selected.
Test the full meditation loop before going live
Test the complete path—not just whether FFmpeg starts. YouTube recommends a speed test, a preflight test with audio and video movement similar to the actual stream, and monitoring stream health during the broadcast. Its encoder guidance says: “Make sure to test before you start your live stream. Tests should include audio and movement in the video similar to what you’ll be doing in the stream.” See YouTube’s live encoder settings guidance.

RTMP/RTMPS, HLS, and recovery behavior
The example uses RTMP-compatible FLV output; RTMPS is the secure RTMP variant recommended by YouTube. HLS is a different ingestion workflow, not a drop-in URL substitution: YouTube documents rolling playlists, TS segments, HTTPS POST/PUT, and segment durations of one to four seconds for HLS, and warns that HLS has higher latency than RTMP. Configure the endpoint and output for the selected method rather than mixing HLS requirements with the RTMP example.
FFmpeg’s documentation for all options includes RTMP examples and an option for continuing real-time processing during a temporary failure and retrying a stream. Such retry behavior can help with some failures; it does not guarantee that the source, network, encoder, and YouTube event will reconnect successfully. Watch the FFmpeg log and YouTube health panel and be prepared to intervene.

Runtime, archives, copyright, and monetization
Plan the event length and archive separately
YouTube says encoder streams shorter than 12 hours are automatically archived. That does not establish that an indefinite loop will be saved as one uninterrupted archive. If you need a replay, plan a finite event or publish an on-demand version separately, and check YouTube’s current behavior for your event.
Repeated playback does not grant rights or monetization eligibility
Make sure you have appropriate rights to the guided voice recording, music, ambient audio, and visuals. The fact that a file loops does not establish permission to use any of its components.
YouTube’s monetization policy, clarified on July 15, 2025, treats repetitive or mass-produced material under its “inauthentic content” policy. YouTube says: “What’s important is that the substance of each video should be materially varied and deliver creative, educational, or other value.” Similar formats may still be eligible when they provide that value, but a continuously repeated recording may face review depending on the channel and content. A loop alone does not guarantee monetization. Read YouTube’s channel monetization policies.
Troubleshooting common loop and stream problems
| Symptom | Likely cause | What to check or change |
|---|---|---|
| FFmpeg plays the file once and exits | -stream_loop -1 is missing or is after the input it should affect. |
Place -stream_loop -1 before that input’s -i. |
| Video loops but audio stops | Audio is a separate finite input and only the video input is being looped. | Apply looping to every finite input that must continue, and verify mapping and synchronization. |
| YouTube does not receive a usable feed | The URL, key, output protocol, container, or codec settings may not match the selected event or ingestion method. | Copy the current URL and key from YouTube Studio, confirm the selected RTMP/RTMPS or HLS workflow, and inspect FFmpeg’s log. |
| Video or audio stutters, or stream health is poor | Upload capacity may not have enough headroom for the chosen output bitrate, or encoding may be overloaded. | Run a speed and preflight test, compare the actual format with YouTube’s bitrate guidance, and monitor encoder and stream health. |
| Image has an unexpected jump or audio gap at the loop point | The file may have a discontinuity at its start/end, or the audio/video streams may not align. | Inspect and edit the source boundary, then test through a complete loop before the event. |
| The feed drops and does not return | A retry option cannot resolve every network, encoder, source, or YouTube event failure. | Check FFmpeg logs and YouTube stream health; confirm the event is still active and restart the encoder if needed. |
Or let it run in the cloud
If you do not want a computer and home connection running throughout the stream, StreamNeo is a cloud option for keeping a YouTube channel live from uploaded videos. Upload the recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. StreamNeo loops the upload in the cloud, so nothing has to stay on at home. It streams the video as uploaded, up to 4K 60fps, at one flat price per slot; it does not re-encode or use quality tiers. It can automatically recover if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card; the monthly option is $9.99 per month. StreamNeo is for YouTube streams from uploaded videos, not camera broadcasts. See StreamNeo, then start the free first day.
