To run a 24/7 YouTube Live stream of crackling campfire sounds, loop an original or properly licensed recording in an encoder such as OBS, connect the encoder to YouTube Live Control Room, and monitor the broadcast. Your channel must be verified and free of a live-stream restriction in the previous 90 days; enabling live streaming for the first time can take up to 24 hours. A continuous stream also depends on the computer, power, source media, and internet connection staying available—or on using a cloud service instead.
1. Prepare campfire audio and visuals you have permission to stream
Use a recording you made yourself or audio licensed for the exact uses you plan: a YouTube livestream and, if you enable one, its replay or archive. Check the same rights for any still image, video loop, or camera footage. Keep copies of licenses, permissions, and related correspondence.
YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. A match may result in a placeholder image, interruption, or termination. A license alone may not prevent an interruption: YouTube says a rights owner may need to allowlist your channel through Content ID for licensed material. Review YouTube’s guidance on copyright issues with live streams before broadcasting third-party material.
A portable audio recorder is one optional way to capture your own fire ambience; YouTube does not require one. If recording a real fire, follow local fire-safety rules and do not put equipment or people at risk for a sound effect.

2. Enable YouTube Live and create an encoder broadcast
- Verify your YouTube channel and check that it has no live-stream restriction from the previous 90 days. YouTube may take up to 24 hours to activate live streaming the first time.
- In YouTube Studio, open Live Control Room and create a stream using the encoder option. YouTube lists software encoders such as OBS among the available ways to send a prepared scene.
- In Live Control Room, copy the server URL and stream key for the broadcast. Enter them in the encoder’s streaming settings, and keep the key private: anyone with access to it may be able to send a stream to your channel.
See YouTube’s encoder setup instructions for current activation and connection steps. Interface labels may change, so use the current options shown in your account.
3. Make a repeating campfire scene in OBS
Loop one recording
- Open OBS and add a Media Source to the scene. Select the local audio or video file you are permitted to use.
- Enable Loop in the source properties. OBS documents local audio support for MP3, AAC, OGG, and WAV, and video support for MP4, MOV, MKV, and WebM.
- If the source is audio-only, add a still image or a separately looped visual. If you use footage of a real fire, confirm its rights too.
Loop a playlist
For a set of recordings, add OBS’s VLC Video source and build a playlist. OBS enables Loop Playlist by default for this source. Check that every playlist item exists on the streaming computer and that the transitions do not leave gaps or introduce unwanted sounds.

Watch and listen through a full repeat before going live. A sharp audio cut, a silent gap, or a visible jump at the loop boundary can be distracting in a meditation ambience stream.
4. Set encoder quality for the scene and connection
In OBS, choose settings that your sustained upload connection can support. YouTube’s current encoder guidance recommends a two-second keyframe interval and says not to exceed four seconds. For H.264 at 1080p and 30 fps, YouTube’s table lists a recommended video bitrate of 10 Mbps; that is an encoder recommendation, not a guaranteed minimum upload speed or a requirement for every stream.

- Video: YouTube lists RTMP/RTMPS ingest and H.264, H.265, or AV1 video, up to 60 fps. Prefer RTMPS when your encoder supports it. A static image or slowly moving fire scene may not need a high video bitrate; select a resolution and rate your connection can sustain.
- Audio: YouTube lists AAC or MP3 audio. Its advanced settings recommend 44.1 kHz sampling and 128 kbps for ordinary stereo audio.
- Keyframes and bitrate: Use the two-second keyframe interval, stay at or below four seconds, and use constant-bitrate encoding as YouTube’s settings guidance specifies.
These are YouTube encoder recommendations, not a promise that a particular internet plan, computer, or scene will remain stable. Consult YouTube’s encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions for the current tables and guidance.
5. Test the complete stream before leaving it unattended
- Start an encoder test or private/unlisted broadcast using the controls available in Live Control Room.
- Include audio and video movement representative of the real stream. YouTube specifically recommends testing with similar audio and movement to what the broadcast will contain.
- Listen for silence, clipping, abrupt loop boundaries, and stray noise; confirm the image is present and the encoder is sending both audio and video.
- Check Live Control Room’s stream health and messages while the test runs. Make any needed bitrate, resolution, or source adjustments before publishing.
For a locally encoded 24/7 broadcast, periodically check the encoder, source-file availability, computer power, and network. Decide how you will restart the stream after a failure. YouTube describes 24/7 feeds as broadcasts that can remain live while another broadcast is created from the same stream, but that does not guarantee automatic recovery from a computer, network, or service outage.

6. Choose how to keep the broadcast running

Common problems and fixes
- Live streaming is not available yet: Verify the channel, check for a live restriction in the previous 90 days, and allow up to 24 hours for first-time activation.
- YouTube does not receive the encoder feed: Recheck the server URL and stream key in Live Control Room and OBS. Confirm the encoder is started and the key has not been mistyped or replaced.
- The broadcast reports poor stream health: Lower resolution or bitrate to suit the sustained upload connection, confirm the two-second keyframe interval, and check YouTube’s messages and encoder guidance.
- There is no sound or the audio is distorted: Confirm the correct source is active in OBS, check its audio level and output, then test the full stream. Listen for clipping, silence, or a broken loop boundary.
- A third-party copyright match interrupts the stream: Stop using the matched material unless you have the necessary rights. For licensed content, contact the rights owner about allowlisting the channel through Content ID; a license does not itself ensure the live stream will avoid interruption.
- The stream stops after you leave: Check local power, computer sleep settings, source-file access, encoder status, and network stability. A local setup depends on these remaining available; plan a restart process or use a cloud approach.
Copyright, replay, and monetization considerations
Rights to stream a sound recording do not automatically answer every question about replay or archive use. Confirm that your permission covers the uses you intend, and do not assume that a continuous broadcast will remain archived for a particular duration. The cited YouTube guidance does not establish your channel’s monetization eligibility or guarantee uninterrupted operation.
