To connect Castr to a YouTube channel in India, create a livestream in Castr, add YouTube as a destination, then either authorize your Google account or enter the YouTube stream URL and key. YouTube’s eligibility rules still apply: your channel must be verified and have no live-stream restrictions in the preceding 90 days. First-time live-stream activation can take up to 24 hours.
Before you connect Castr and YouTube
- Check YouTube eligibility. YouTube requires a verified channel with no live-stream restrictions in the preceding 90 days. If this is the channel’s first livestream, enable live streaming in YouTube and allow up to 24 hours for activation. See YouTube live streaming tips and Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder.
- Have access to the right Google account. You’ll need to select the channel you intend to stream to when authorizing Castr, or open that channel’s Live Control Room to retrieve its stream details.
- Choose a nearby Castr ingest region. Castr’s guide recommends selecting a hosting region close to where you will send the stream. The sources do not establish a special India-only region or guarantee performance for a particular Indian ISP. Castr destination limits depend on your subscription plan.
Connecting YouTube does not require channel monetization. Monetization is a separate choice; Castr says enabling ads through its YouTube destination requires YouTube Partner Program participation and ads enabled in YouTube Studio’s Earn tab. See Castr’s YouTube monetization guide.
Create a livestream and add YouTube in Castr
- In Castr, create a livestream. Select a hosting region close to your streaming source, then create the stream. See Castr’s How to Start a Live Stream in Castr.
- Open the stream dashboard and add a destination. Select YouTube.
- Choose either account/API linking or manual server-and-key setup, described below.
- Complete the destination setup, then check the event and preview before broadcasting.
Castr’s YouTube connection guide was published in May 2023, so exact button placement or labels may change. The two documented connection approaches remain the useful distinction: authorize a YouTube account, or supply the stream URL and key from YouTube Studio.
Choose a connection method

Neither approach is established as universally more reliable. If Google authorization fails, manual setup is a reasonable alternative, provided the channel is eligible to livestream and you can access its Live Control Room.

Option 1: Connect by Google account
- In the YouTube destination setup in Castr, choose “Connect to YouTube Events.”
- Sign in to Google if asked, and grant the requested authorization.
- Select the correct YouTube channel. Check the channel identity before continuing if the Google account manages more than one channel.
- Choose an existing event or enter details to create one in Castr, then create the platform.
Option 2: Connect with the YouTube stream URL and key
- Open YouTube Studio for the channel you want to use, then open Live Control Room.
- Create or select an encoder stream and copy its stream URL and stream key. These belong to the selected stream; do not copy credentials from a different channel or event.
- In Castr, select YouTube’s server/key setup, enter the stream details, and create the platform.
- Edit the stream description in YouTube’s dashboard if needed; Castr notes that the description must be changed there when using the key route.
YouTube describes the stream key as a credential an encoder uses to send a feed. Channel owners or managers can reset it. Keep it out of screenshots, public notes, and messages; if it is exposed, reset it in YouTube Studio. Details are in Manage live stream settings.
Test the destination before you go live
- Check the YouTube Live Control Room preview and confirm the event is accessible from the channel and watch pages.
- Make sure your available upload bandwidth has headroom above the stream’s bitrate. YouTube recommends allowing upload capacity beyond the bitrate needed by the stream; see Streaming tips.
- If the source is offline, Castr advises turning the YouTube destination off and enabling it when the source is live. This can help avoid connection problems on a later broadcast.
- YouTube says streams shorter than 12 hours are archived automatically. Do not treat that as an archive guarantee for broadcasts lasting 12 hours or longer; check the event and recording afterward. See Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder.
India-specific considerations
The documented setup is a general Castr-to-YouTube workflow. The cited instructions do not specify a separate India connection route, an India-specific restriction for this setup, or a performance guarantee for any Indian ISP. Follow Castr’s general advice to choose an ingest region close to your streaming source. If account/API linking fails, try the manual URL-and-key method; YouTube eligibility and access to the channel’s Live Control Room still apply.

Troubleshooting
