You can use VLC to prepare and loop worship videos, but a VLC playlist alone does not create a YouTube livestream. To broadcast continuously, you also need a YouTube channel with livestreaming enabled, permission to stream every video and its music, and an encoder output that YouTube accepts. YouTube’s guidance does not establish a current, reliable end-to-end VLC menu workflow, so test your installed VLC setup before depending on it for a 24/7 broadcast.
Before you start: check channel access and streaming rights
Confirm livestreaming is available
YouTube’s guidance says a channel must be verified and must not have had a livestreaming restriction in the preceding 90 days. Check access in YouTube Studio before building the broadcast: YouTube live streaming tips.
Clear every video and audio right
For each item, confirm you have the rights needed to livestream the audiovisual work and its components, including the underlying composition and sound recording. YouTube’s Livestream terms and conditions place responsibility on the broadcaster to hold the necessary rights worldwide, including music licensing rights. Owning a file, giving attribution, or having permission for an in-person service does not by itself establish permission to broadcast it on YouTube; check what the relevant rights holders and license issuer actually permit.
Prepare and test your worship-video playlist in VLC
- Gather cleared files. Put the videos you are authorized to broadcast in an accessible folder, and decide the order in which they should play.
- Build an ordered VLC playlist. Add the files in the intended sequence and play through them locally. Check that each item opens, that audio is audible, and that transitions and endings are acceptable.
- Set repeat or loop behavior. VLC supports playlist playback and repeat controls. Its VideoLAN Media Library (VLM) documentation describes broadcasts with multiple inputs and an output, with loop behavior that starts the input list again after the last item. The documented concept does not establish a current GUI menu path for your installed version; confirm the controls and behavior in your own VLC build. See the VLC project and VLM documentation change.
- Test the complete sequence. Leave the playlist running long enough to reach a transition and repeat point. Watch for gaps, failed files, unexpected silence, or playback stopping at the end.
Do not assume that a playlist playing on your computer is already an internet broadcast. The selected VLC output—or a separate compatible encoder—must send a feed YouTube can ingest. The available VLC documentation does not verify a current, precise configuration that works in every VLC build. If your installed VLC cannot produce a compatible feed reliably, use a supported encoder path and validate the resulting stream in YouTube Studio.

Create the YouTube Live stream and connect an encoder
- Open Live Control Room. In YouTube Studio, select Create → Go Live, then create or select the stream. YouTube’s encoder setup guidance explains the Live Control Room workflow.
- Copy the destination details. Copy the server URL and stream key shown in the stream setup into the corresponding fields in your chosen encoder. Treat the key like a password: it identifies the destination and lets YouTube accept the feed, so do not publish or share it.
- Configure compatible output. YouTube’s current encoder settings guidance lists CBR and the supported codecs H.264, H.265/HEVC, and AV1; it allows AAC or MP3 audio and recommends a 2-second keyframe interval, not exceeding 4 seconds. Use RTMPS where your encoder supports it. These are YouTube recommendations, not a guarantee that every VLC build exposes those codecs or settings. See YouTube encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions.
- Wait for the preview and inspect it. Confirm that the correct video and audio arrive in Live Control Room and that stream health is acceptable before making the event live. Follow YouTube’s on-screen controls for starting the event.
- Check the viewer-facing stream. After going live, open the watch page as a viewer and confirm the picture and sound remain present. Keep the stream key private and retain a safe restart procedure.
Plan for bandwidth, monitoring, and archives
Leave upload headroom
Measure the connection’s upload capacity, not just its download speed. YouTube recommends upload bandwidth at least 20% above the combined bitrate of the stream, and notes that other users or devices on a shared network can reduce available capacity. Details are in YouTube streaming tips. Prefer a reliable connection and avoid saturating it with other uploads.
Monitor the broadcast and rehearse recovery
Test the whole chain in advance: file playback, playlist transition and loop, audio, encoder connection, Live Control Room preview, stream health, and viewer-facing playback. YouTube advises testing before relying on an encoder and monitoring stream quality. A 24/7 broadcast can still be interrupted; decide who will notice a failure and how the encoder or stream will be restarted. The cited YouTube guidance does not guarantee uninterrupted operation.

Do not assume a single 24-hour archive
YouTube’s encoder help says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. That does not promise one complete archive for a 24-hour feed or define how a continuous broadcast should be split. If preserving a recording matters, confirm current YouTube behavior and your archive requirements before going live.
Troubleshooting common setup problems
- You cannot enter Live Control Room: verify the channel and account meet YouTube’s livestreaming access requirements, including verification and no restriction in the previous 90 days.
- YouTube does not receive a signal: check that the encoder is running, the server URL and stream key are copied into the correct fields, and your network can reach YouTube. If the key was exposed, replace it in YouTube Studio and update the encoder.
- VLC plays locally but YouTube shows no preview: local playlist playback is not proof of a compatible streaming output. Check that your chosen output or encoder is configured to send a YouTube-accepted feed, then test again in Live Control Room.
- The playlist stops instead of repeating: check the repeat/loop behavior in your VLC build and test beyond the end of the playlist. VLM loop semantics do not guarantee identical controls or behavior in every VLC interface.
- Video or audio quality is unstable: inspect Live Control Room stream health, verify the encoder’s output settings, and check whether available upload bandwidth meets YouTube’s headroom recommendation. Other traffic on the connection may be reducing capacity.
- A video is muted, blocked, or challenged: review rights for that specific video and its music. Having the file or crediting the creator does not establish YouTube livestream rights; consult the rights holder or license issuer.
- The stream stops after an interruption: follow your rehearsed restart procedure and check the incoming preview and stream health before resuming. Do not assume YouTube or VLC will automatically recover a DIY stream.
Or let it run in the cloud
If you do not want a home computer and connection to stay on, StreamNeo is a cloud service for keeping a YouTube channel live from uploaded videos. Upload your cleared videos, add your YouTube stream key, and go live; it loops the videos from the cloud. Nothing has to stay running at home, uploads stream as made up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, and the service automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly billing is $9.99 per month. See StreamNeo or its plans, then start your free day.
