Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsIf OBS is counting network-dropped frames during a church service, first check the connection between the streaming computer and YouTube—not just the computer’s processing power. Lowering the bitrate, switching from Wi-Fi to Ethernet, and checking YouTube’s stream-health messages are practical first steps, but the right fix depends on where the connection is failing.
First, identify which frames OBS is dropping
OBS has different performance counters for different problems. An increasing network-dropped-frame count points to a connection that is unstable or cannot sustain the configured bitrate. It does not, by itself, show that the computer is too slow. Rendering or encoding lag is a separate problem and needs a different diagnosis.
When the count starts rising, note the time, the percentage dropped, the bitrate OBS shows, and whether the stream recovers or disconnects. At the same time, check YouTube Live Control Room’s stream-health messages. YouTube may report configuration concerns such as bitrate or keyframe settings, or insufficient incoming video. Those messages help narrow the problem but do not identify every fault between the church and YouTube’s ingest server. OBS’s connection troubleshooting guide explains the network-dropped-frame category; YouTube’s LiveStream configuration documentation describes ingestion health messages.
Lower the bitrate and test whether the connection stabilizes
A download-speed result is not a useful substitute for stable upload capacity. OBS suggests starting at 75% of total upload speed, but that is a troubleshooting heuristic—not a guarantee that a continuous stream will be stable. Leave room for upload variation and other church traffic, then test the actual setup.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
- Run an upload-speed test on the same connection and, if possible, the same computer and network route used for the service. Consider whether other devices or scheduled uploads share the connection.
- Reduce the video bitrate in OBS and run a private or otherwise non-public test if your church’s workflow permits. Test long enough to cover the point in the service when dropped frames usually begin.
- Compare the result. If the stream stabilizes at a lower bitrate, the upload path may not reliably sustain the previous setting. That does not prove whether the limiting factor is the ISP, congestion, Wi-Fi, local traffic, or a device fault.
- Choose continuity over a higher setting. If needed, test a lower resolution or frame rate so the connection can carry the stream more reliably.
YouTube’s current H.264 recommendations provide context for common settings: 1080p at 30 fps is 5 Mbps, 720p at 30 fps is 3 Mbps, 1080p at 60 fps is 12 Mbps, and 720p at 60 fps is 6 Mbps. These are platform recommendations, not proof that a particular church connection can sustain them. Choose a setting your tested upload path can support. See YouTube’s live encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions.
Reduce network variability before changing equipment
Test on wired Ethernet
If OBS is using Wi-Fi, connect the streaming computer to the router by Ethernet and repeat the test. A wired connection removes one common source of instability. Try an existing cable first; replacing hardware is only useful if testing points to a cable or device fault.

Pause competing uploads
During the test, pause cloud backups, large file transfers, and other upload-heavy activity. If the stream improves, shared upload capacity may be part of the problem. The result does not necessarily mean the internet plan or router is faulty.
Check network software
VPNs, security software, outdated network drivers, and traffic “optimizer” or prioritization software can affect streaming. Test changes one at a time so you can tell which change matters. OBS also lists Windows Network Optimizations and TCP pacing as settings some users report helping; treat them as experiments, not guaranteed fixes.

In OBS, check that Bind to IP is set to Default. OBS suggests testing IPv4 Only if problems persist; if it makes no difference, return to IPv4 and IPv6. Dynamic bitrate adjustment is another fallback: it may reduce bitrate during congestion, but it does not fix the underlying connection problem and can lower picture quality. Details and the relevant OBS options are in the OBS connection troubleshooting guide.
Check the physical network route
Inspect the path from the streaming computer to the modem or router. It may include a network interface, wall jack, Ethernet cable, switch, powerline adapter or extender, router, and modem. A fault in any of these can contribute to connection trouble.

- Please Note: To reach 10Gbps speed, keep the cable under 3.3 ft. For USB A Male to USB C adapters, try flipping the USB C connector. USB C Male to USB A adapters support bidirectional 10Gbps transfer within 3.3 ft
- Try a known-good Ethernet cable or a direct connection to the router, if practical.
- Test one component at a time rather than replacing several devices at once.
- If the fault persists and you are unsure whether the equipment is responsible, ask the ISP before buying replacement hardware.
If a wired test at a conservative bitrate still drops frames, congestion or a route issue beyond the church’s local network may be involved. OBS notes that provider-side conditions can be outside the operator’s control.

For standard YouTube RTMP/RTMPS streaming, YouTube lists H.264, H.265, or AV1 video and recommends constant bitrate (CBR). Its recommended keyframe interval is 2 seconds and should not exceed 4 seconds. Check Live Control Room for bitrate, frame-rate, or keyframe warnings; a configuration warning suggests checking those settings, while an ingestion-starvation message indicates YouTube is not receiving enough video to maintain smooth streaming. Neither message, on its own, identifies the exact point of failure.

If your system sends primary and backup feeds, YouTube may flag mismatched stream properties, including resolution, bitrate, frame rate, codec, audio settings, or keyframe frequency. Check that the feeds are configured consistently.
Before a service, rehearse with movement and audio similar to the actual event—not just a static screen. YouTube recommends testing with representative audio and motion and monitoring stream health during the broadcast. Save OBS logs and note the time of any warning so your volunteer team or ISP can compare it with the symptoms.
Escalate with useful evidence
If dropped frames continue over Ethernet at a bitrate below the upload capacity you have measured, after checking local software and equipment, contact your ISP. Share evidence rather than asking it to diagnose an unspecified “slow stream”:
- When the problem began and how long it lasted
- OBS’s bitrate and dropped-frame percentage
- Whether the stream recovered or disconnected
- Whether other internet services remained available
- YouTube Live Control Room messages and their timestamps
- What changed during your tests, such as using Ethernet or lowering bitrate
This helps distinguish a local setup issue from congestion or a route problem that may need provider attention.
Or let it run in the cloud
If your church also needs a pre-recorded YouTube stream to keep running continuously, StreamNeo runs uploaded videos and playlists from the cloud, so no computer or home connection has to stay on. Upload a recording, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. It streams the uploaded file as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one price per slot; it can automatically recover if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly pricing is $9.99 per month. Start your free first day with StreamNeo.
