You can run a 24/7 Indian music stream from a Linux VPS by sending a continuously encoded playlist to YouTube Live, but 1 GB of RAM does not guarantee that the server can encode video reliably. Use a supervised, headless streaming process, start with conservative video settings, and benchmark the exact VPS and output you plan to use. Before anything goes live, make sure you have rights for every recording and composition in the playlist.
What you need before setting up the stream
A licensed music catalogue
“Indian music” is not a copyright exception. YouTube’s livestream terms require the channel operator to have the necessary worldwide rights to exploit live content on Google services, including music licensing rights from artists, labels, publishers and other royalty participants. A purchased track or a consumer music-streaming subscription does not, by itself, establish permission to rebroadcast that music in a continuous YouTube livestream.
Confirm that your permissions cover the actual recordings and compositions, the territories where the stream may be viewed, and online live use. Keep the licence or other permission records accessible. If a rights owner or distributor uses Content ID, ask how to have your channel allowlisted before broadcasting.
A VPS sized for the actual encoding workload
Use a minimal Linux installation and a headless process that can run under a supervisor. A 1 GB RAM label alone says little about whether a particular server will keep up: video encoding can use substantially more CPU than audio, and performance depends on CPU allocation, resolution, frame rate, encoder preset and how media files are handled. Liquidsoap’s FFmpeg video guidance discusses the additional demands of video; it does not certify a universal 1 GB VPS configuration.

Check the provider’s CPU allocation and limits, RAM, storage, outbound transfer allowance, network restrictions, region and support terms. The playlist needs enough storage for the media you intend to keep on the server, and a continuous outbound stream uses transfer around the clock. Limits, pricing and billing rules depend on the VPS provider.
A video signal, even for a music-first channel
YouTube Live is a video ingest workflow. Prepare a visual to accompany the music, such as a permitted still or other suitable visual, and encode it with the audio. A static or low-motion visual may reduce encoding work compared with more complex motion, but it does not prove that a 1 GB VPS can handle your chosen settings.

Prepare YouTube Live and protect the stream key
- Open YouTube Studio’s live control room. Use the channel’s live-stream setup to obtain the current ingest details and stream key. YouTube’s Get started with live streaming page explains the platform setup.
- Keep the key private. Put it in the streaming process’s private configuration or secret store, not in a public script, shared document, or log. Anyone with the key may be able to send a stream to your channel.
- Choose the secure ingest address shown by YouTube. YouTube recommends RTMPS, the secure version of RTMP. Use the current server address and key supplied in Studio rather than copying an old ingest address from a tutorial.
- Test before leaving the stream unattended. YouTube recommends testing and monitoring stream health. Watch the live control room during a representative test and confirm both audio and video arrive as intended.
Choose the streaming process and encoder settings
Liquidsoap for a playlist-based station
For a simple playlist station, Liquidsoap can manage playlist and fallback behavior and send a YouTube Live RTMP output using FFmpeg. Its official site describes the streaming language, and its FFmpeg video documentation covers video encoding. Configure the process to read your permitted media, provide an appropriate visual, encode the output, and reconnect or restart if the connection or process fails. The exact configuration depends on the installed Liquidsoap and FFmpeg versions; follow the documentation for those versions rather than pasting an unverified configuration into a production stream.
FFmpeg for a pre-rendered visual loop
If you already have a pre-rendered visual loop and a music source, FFmpeg can be used directly for encoding and sending the stream. You still need a separate playlist or media-rotation arrangement if you want tracks to change continuously, plus supervision, logs and reconnect handling. Liquidsoap is the more natural fit when playlist and fallback scheduling are central; direct FFmpeg can suit a prepared input, but requires you to handle the surrounding scheduling and recovery yourself.

Use YouTube’s ingest guidance
YouTube’s encoder settings guidance recommends:
- RTMPS ingest.
- H.264 video and AAC or MP3 audio.
- Constant bitrate (CBR) and progressive scan.
- A two-second keyframe interval; YouTube recommends not exceeding four seconds.
- For stereo audio, 128 kbps and a 44.1 kHz sample rate.
These are YouTube’s encoder recommendations, not proof that a specific VPS can encode the chosen video in real time. The cited guidance also includes bitrate and resolution recommendations; select values from its current tables for your chosen output rather than assuming a value that has not been tested on your server.
Bring the stream online and verify that it can keep up
- Upload the media and visual assets. Use only files you have permission to stream. Confirm the playlist paths resolve on the VPS and that the process account can read them.
- Configure the playlist and fallback behavior. In Liquidsoap, arrange the playlist and a fallback source so the output does not simply end when a track finishes or a file cannot be read. With direct FFmpeg, arrange the input rotation separately.
- Set the encoder and YouTube destination. Apply the YouTube settings above, use the live ingest address and stream key from Studio, and select a conservative video resolution and frame rate for the available CPU.
- Run the process under supervision. Configure a service supervisor to start it after a restart and restart it if it exits. Capture useful error logs, but ensure the stream key is not written into logs. Supervision helps recover from a stopped process; it cannot make an overloaded encoder or failed network reliable.
- Benchmark the real workload. Test with representative music and visuals at the intended resolution, frame rate and encoder preset. Observe CPU and memory use, outbound throughput, dropped frames, playback quality and reconnect behavior. Check the YouTube live control room for stream health.
- Reduce load or change plans if the test fails. Lowering resolution, frame rate or encoding complexity may help. If the encoder still cannot keep pace, use a VPS with more suitable CPU resources or encode elsewhere. Do not treat one short successful test as proof of uninterrupted 24/7 performance.
Understand copyright interruptions and monetization limits
Content ID can interrupt a licensed stream
YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. As described in its live copyright guidance, a match can cause a warning, a placeholder image, interruption or termination. A licence does not necessarily prevent an interruption if the rights owner has not allowlisted the channel through Content ID. Resolve allowlisting with the rights owner or distributor before relying on a licensed catalogue for continuous broadcasting. A saved stream may also receive claims after it ends.

Continuous playback does not guarantee monetization
YouTube’s channel monetization policies apply to livestreams. The policy identifies repetitive or mass-produced material as potentially inauthentic and potentially ineligible for monetization; YouTube says its clarification renaming “repetitious content” as “inauthentic content” took effect July 15, 2025. Licensing tracks, running for a long time, or using a large playlist does not guarantee YouTube Partner Program approval. Add meaningful original value and assess the channel against YouTube’s current channel-level rules.

- YouTube does not receive a signal: Check that the process is running, the current ingest address and stream key match YouTube Studio, and the VPS can reach the ingest service. Review logs without exposing the key.
- The stream starts but has dropped frames or stalls: Check CPU load and network throughput during the actual encode. Reduce resolution, frame rate or encoding complexity, then test again; increase available compute if the process still falls behind.
- Audio plays but the video is missing or unstable: Verify that the video input is available to the process and that the output uses a supported video format and progressive scan. Test the complete audio-and-video output in YouTube’s live control room.
- The stream stops when a track ends or a file is missing: Inspect playlist paths and permissions, then configure Liquidsoap fallback behavior or correct the direct FFmpeg input rotation. Check logs for file-read or playlist errors.
- The process stops after a VPS restart: Confirm the process is configured to start under the service supervisor and inspect its startup logs. A supervisor can restart a process, but it cannot correct an invalid key, bad media path or insufficient encoding capacity.
- YouTube warns, replaces the image or terminates the stream: Check the live copyright notice and contact the relevant rights owner or distributor about the claim and any required Content ID allowlisting. Do not assume that a licence automatically prevents automated interruption.
