Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFor a repeatable, configurable YouTube Live loop, FFmpeg is the stronger fit; VLC is a possible GUI-based alternative, but exact current steps for looping to YouTube Live are not established here. Both can stream media, but neither tool’s documentation guarantees uninterrupted 24/7 operation or automatic recovery. Whichever you choose, configure YouTube’s current ingest settings, test the stream, and use only music and video you have the rights to broadcast.
FFmpeg vs VLC: which should you choose?
| Decision | FFmpeg | VLC |
|---|---|---|
| How you operate it | Command line; useful for explicit, repeatable settings and scripts. | GUI-oriented player with streaming and transcoding output workflows. |
| What the official documentation establishes | Media input, filtering, transcoding and output to URLs; its documentation includes an infinite-loop input example. | Streaming and transcoding capability. The specific VideoLAN material available for this comparison covers selecting FFmpeg AMF hardware encoders, not a complete YouTube Live loop. |
| Looping this exact workflow | The documented loop example is a starting point, not a complete YouTube Live recipe. Confirm options against your installed version and test. | Exact current GUI steps for looping a file to YouTube Live are not established here; verify the controls in your installed version. |
| Configuration | Offers visible control of inputs, outputs, stream selection and codec options, but requires command-line familiarity. | May suit interactive use, but check the version-specific endpoint, codec and loop controls. |
| Long-run reliability | No uptime or automatic-recovery guarantee is established. Process supervision, network resilience and recovery need separate planning. | No uptime or automatic-recovery guarantee is established. Test and monitor rather than assuming it will recover. |
Choose FFmpeg if you want to keep the command and its settings consistent across runs and are comfortable troubleshooting syntax. Choose VLC if you prefer a graphical workflow and can confirm that your installed version exposes the loop and streaming settings you need. This is a workflow comparison, not a benchmark or a claim that one program is more stable.
How to loop a video on YouTube Live with FFmpeg
The steps below describe the setup sequence, but a complete command depends on your file, installed FFmpeg build, selected codecs and YouTube ingest details. FFmpeg options are position-sensitive: options generally apply to the next input or output. Use the installed version’s documentation to confirm the infinite-loop input option and output syntax rather than copying an unverified one-size-fits-all command.
- Prepare the source. Use a local video file containing the audio and visuals you intend to broadcast. Confirm that you have permission to livestream both, and that the file plays correctly from beginning to end.
- Create or select the YouTube Live event. In YouTube Live Control Room, create or select the event and its stream key. Retrieve the server URL shown for that event. YouTube recommends RTMPS; the interface may show ordinary RTMP by default.
- Configure FFmpeg’s input and output. Set up the file as an infinitely repeated input using the loop option supported by your installed FFmpeg version. Configure the output for YouTube’s ingest protocol and your selected video and audio codecs. Keep input-related options before the input and output-related options after it, as applicable.
- Set encoding parameters. For RTMP/RTMPS, YouTube supports H.264, H.265/HEVC or AV1 video, and AAC or MP3 audio. Set constant bitrate (CBR) and a two-second keyframe interval; YouTube says not to exceed four seconds. Match resolution and frame rate to the source and your available, reliable upload bandwidth.
- Send the stream and check the preview. Start FFmpeg, then inspect the event preview and stream-health messages in Live Control Room. Go live only after the preview, audio and video look correct.
- Monitor the run. Check the stream during a representative test and during the live session. Looping a file does not itself provide process supervision, a working internet connection or guaranteed recovery after a disconnect.
Can VLC stream a video to YouTube Live?
VLC has streaming and transcoding output capabilities, so it can be considered for this workflow. However, the official VideoLAN material located for this comparison documents FFmpeg hardware-encoder selection in a particular workflow; it does not establish current, end-to-end YouTube Live menu names or exact loop-to-YouTube steps. Those controls can depend on the VLC version and configuration.

If you use VLC, verify in your installed version how to repeat the media, select the streaming destination, set the required codecs and enter YouTube’s server URL and stream key. Then conduct a private or otherwise appropriate test, inspect the Live Control Room preview and confirm that audio and video continue as expected. Do not assume that a visible loop or successful initial connection proves long-run recovery.
YouTube Live settings that matter
YouTube’s encoder guidance recommends these general settings for RTMP/RTMPS. Choose a suitable resolution and frame rate for the source and available upload capacity; recommendations are not guarantees of a successful stream.

| Setting | YouTube guidance |
|---|---|
| Ingest protocol | RTMP or RTMPS; YouTube recommends RTMPS, which is RTMP over TLS/SSL. |
| Video codec | H.264, H.265/HEVC or AV1; frame rates up to 60 fps are supported by the guidance. |
| Bitrate mode | CBR. |
| Keyframe interval | Two seconds recommended; do not exceed four seconds. |
| Audio codec | AAC or MP3 for RTMP/RTMPS. |
| Stereo audio | 44.1 kHz sample rate and 128 Kbps recommended. |
| 5.1 audio | 48 kHz sample rate and 384 Kbps given in YouTube’s guidance. |
| H.264 bitrate example: 720p30 | 3 Mbps minimum; 8 Mbps recommended. |
| H.264 bitrate example: 1080p30 | 5 Mbps minimum; 14 Mbps recommended. |
The bitrate figures above are YouTube’s encoder guidance, not measurements of FFmpeg or VLC performance. Your upload connection needs reliable headroom for the chosen stream. For RTMPS, use the server URL supplied by Live Control Room rather than assuming that the default URL shown is the recommended secure endpoint.
Keep the stream key private
YouTube instructs creators to enter the server URL and stream key into the encoder. Treat the key like a password: do not publish it or share it in a command, screenshot or log others can access. Reset it in YouTube if it is compromised, then update the encoder with the replacement.

When HLS is relevant
HLS is a separate ingest path, not a drop-in substitute for RTMP/RTMPS. Consider it only when the desired codec or HDR use case calls for it and your encoder supports YouTube’s HLS requirements. YouTube describes HLS as higher-latency because it sends video segments. Its requirements include TS segments, segment durations from one to four seconds, a rolling playlist with no more than five outstanding segments, and HTTPS POST/PUT.
Rights for Indian music videos and livestream archives
A song’s availability on YouTube, or its Indian-language or Indian-origin status, does not establish permission to rebroadcast it in a livestream. YouTube’s livestream terms say the provider must have the necessary rights to exploit live content worldwide, including relevant music licensing rights from artists, record labels, publishers and other royalty participants. Make sure your permission covers the video and music in the live broadcast and consider the resulting archive as well.

| Symptom | What to check | Practical response |
|---|---|---|
| No preview or YouTube does not receive the stream | Whether the event is selected, the server URL matches Live Control Room, and the stream key is current. | Re-enter the event’s URL and key carefully. If the key may have been exposed, reset it in YouTube and update the encoder. |
| Connection starts but stream health is poor | Configured bitrate, chosen resolution/frame rate, CBR setting and available upload capacity. | Test at a setting your connection can sustain reliably; consult YouTube’s recommendations for the selected format. |
| Video or audio is missing | Whether the source contains the expected streams and whether the encoder output selects and encodes them correctly. | Check the file’s playback and the encoder’s input/output stream selection, then test again before going live. |
| Audio plays but is unsuitable for viewers | Audio codec, sample rate, channel layout and bitrate. | Use an audio format accepted for the chosen ingest protocol and verify playback in the event preview. |
| The loop does not repeat | Whether the installed tool’s loop control or FFmpeg option applies to the input as intended. | Confirm the option against the installed version’s documentation and test across the end of the file. |
| The stream stops after running for a while | Encoder process state, network connection and YouTube stream health. | Check the encoder output and Live Control Room messages. Plan and test a separate restart or recovery approach; neither tool’s cited documentation promises automatic recovery. |

Frequently Asked Questions
Does YouTube automatically archive a 24/7 stream?
YouTube’s setup documentation says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived; it does not establish automatic archiving for longer streams.
Can I use any Indian music video I find online?
No. Finding a song or video on YouTube, or its Indian origin, does not grant livestream or archive rights; obtain the permissions needed for the content you broadcast.
