If a YouTube gaming livestream disappears from a VOD playlist, that does not by itself mean the archive was deleted. The channel owner should check YouTube Studio > Content > Live, then inspect the stream’s visibility. If no archive appears there, check for a local recording: YouTube says streams shorter than 12 hours can be automatically archived, but streams exceeding 12 hours may not be captured.
First, check whether the archive still exists
For the channel owner
- Sign in to the Google account that manages the correct YouTube channel.
- Open YouTube Studio > Content > Live and look for the ended stream. YouTube documents archive visibility changes from this area. YouTube’s archive guidance
- If you find the stream, open its details and check its visibility. If appropriate, change the setting or copy the correct share link.
For a viewer
Ask the channel owner whether the archive exists and whether it is public, unlisted, or private. A private video cannot be watched by someone who only has its old link; the owner must grant access. YouTube’s live stream settings guidance
Understand why it may have vanished from the playlist
A missing playlist entry is not proof that the underlying video was deleted. An unlisted archive normally does not appear in the channel’s Videos tab or YouTube search, though people with its link can watch it. A private archive is restricted to the owner and people specifically granted access. Check the video’s visibility rather than relying on the playlist alone. Check whether YouTube captured the stream
YouTube says it can automatically archive livestreams shorter than 12 hours. A stream exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. If the ended stream is absent from Studio’s Live content, look for a local recording before concluding that no copy is available. YouTube recommends recording a local archive as a backup. Find and verify a local recording
- Check the recording destination configured in your streaming software or capture setup.
- Check any external drive and backup location you use for recordings.
- Confirm the file opens and plays; a recording is useful only if recording was enabled and the resulting file is intact.

If neither the Studio archive nor a local copy is available
There is no guaranteed restoration route established in YouTube’s official archive guidance for a deleted or uncaptured stream. If you have access to Creator Support, YouTube’s Help community FAQ says you can contact that team about a livestream archive, but it does not promise recovery. YouTube’s archive guidance

Do not confuse DVR or Live Redirect with archive recovery
DVR affects playback while the stream is live
DVR lets viewers pause and rewind a livestream. Rewind may be limited or unavailable on very long streams. Turning DVR off does not prevent a recording of the full stream from becoming available once it is ready, so changing DVR is not a fix for a missing post-stream VOD. YouTube’s DVR guidance
Live Redirect sends viewers somewhere else
Live Redirect can route viewers to a Premiere or another livestream when the current stream ends; it does not restore a past VOD. YouTube says creators sending redirects need more than 1,000 subscribers and no Community Guidelines strikes. YouTube Live Redirect

Check for copyright or policy interruptions
If the gaming stream ended unexpectedly, check YouTube Studio for notices. YouTube says third-party content may interrupt or terminate a livestream, and Content ID claims may be made after an archived stream ends. This is a separate issue from a playlist entry disappearing, so inspect any relevant notice before trying to diagnose the archive itself. YouTube’s copyright guidance for livestreams
Prevent the same loss next time
- Keep a local recording of important streams. YouTube explicitly recommends a local archive backup. Archive live streams
- During the broadcast, check that the recording file is being written and its size is increasing; afterwards, verify that it plays. YouTube live streaming tips
- For streams you need to preserve as YouTube archives, avoid relying on sessions longer than 12 hours: YouTube warns those may not be captured.
- For gaming footage, review copyright and livestream notices in Studio if third-party material is involved or a broadcast stops unexpectedly.
