If YouTube keeps replaying the same item, check whether repeat is set to the current video rather than the whole playlist. Open the playlist’s own Loop or Repeat control and make sure its state applies to the playlist. Autoplay is a separate feature: it plays a related video, not necessarily the next item in your playlist.
First, identify what is playing
The right control depends on whether you are watching a playlist, a standalone video, a live broadcast, or a replay of a broadcast. A replay is a video, so playlist controls apply if it is inside a playlist. An active live broadcast is different: its pause and resume behavior is not controlled by playlist looping.
- Same video repeats: check whether repeat is set to the current video.
- A different, unrelated video starts: check Autoplay; it can play a related video after the current one ends.
- The playlist begins again after its final item: playlist looping is likely enabled and working as intended.
- A live broadcast pauses or resumes unexpectedly: see the live-stream section below; playlist loop settings do not diagnose a live-stream fault.
Set the whole playlist to repeat
Computer
- Open a video that belongs to the playlist.
- Expand the playlist panel on the right.
- Click the Loop control in the playlist box. This repeats the playlist.
Do not confuse this with right-clicking the video and choosing Loop: that control repeats the individual video, not the playlist.
Android
- Start playing the playlist.
- Use the Loop control in the playlist control box.
- Check the icon’s state. Tapping Loop a second time can switch it to repeating only the current video; a “1” appears on the control in that mode.
If the same item starts again, check that the control has not changed to the single-video state.

TV or game console
- Start the playlist and open the playback controls.
- Select Repeat until the state reads “Repeat • Playlist.”
“Repeat • Currently playing” repeats one video. Switch the state to “Repeat • Playlist” to cycle through the playlist instead.
iPhone or iPad
The available device-specific instructions here do not establish the exact iOS navigation labels. Look for the playlist’s Loop control and confirm that it applies to the playlist, not only the current video; do not assume the Android steps or labels are identical.

Autoplay is not playlist looping
Autoplay decides whether YouTube plays another related video after the current one ends. Its setting can differ between devices. It does not tell YouTube to play the next item in a particular playlist and then repeat that playlist. For that behavior, use the playlist’s Loop or Repeat control.
If you are watching a live stream
A live broadcast is not an ordinary playlist video. YouTube’s DVR feature lets viewers pause, rewind, and continue during a live stream, but DVR capabilities may be limited or unavailable for streams longer than 12 hours. That limitation concerns live playback; it is not a playlist-repeat setting.

After a broadcast ends, a channel may post highlights or a replay. A replay is a video, so if it is playing in a playlist, use the playlist controls above. If an actual live broadcast unexpectedly starts over, the available YouTube guidance does not identify a specific repair for that symptom; changing playlist repeat settings is not an established fix.
If the playlist still repeats the same item
- Confirm you are using the playlist’s control, not the standalone video’s Loop option.
- On Android, check whether the Loop icon shows “1,” which indicates single-video repeat.
- On a TV or game console, read the displayed repeat state and confirm it says “Playlist.”
- Check whether you are actually watching a live broadcast rather than a replay video.
The documented controls describe standard YouTube playback behavior. They do not establish how every app version, embedded player, account configuration, or stream-specific fault behaves. If the problem persists, the device, operating system, app version, and whether the content is a playlist, replay, or live broadcast will help narrow it down.
