OBS Studio is the best-documented Linux choice for looping Gurbani videos to YouTube Live. For one video, add an OBS Media Source and enable Loop. For an ordered set of videos, use OBS’s VLC Video source with a playlist and enable Loop Playlist. The playlist option requires VLC installed, with the same 64-bit or 32-bit architecture as OBS.
Choose the right OBS source
| Your setup | OBS source | Loop setting | What to know |
|---|---|---|---|
| One video repeated continuously | Media Source | Loop | OBS documents this as a direct way to repeat a single file. OBS Media Sources |
| Several videos played in sequence | VLC Video | Loop Playlist | Install VLC first. OBS says the VLC source requires it, and 64-bit OBS requires 64-bit VLC. OBS Media Sources |
These are documented feature differences, not a performance comparison. If you only need one clip on repeat, Media Source avoids the extra VLC dependency. Choose VLC Video when you need OBS to cycle through a playlist.
Install OBS on Linux
OBS’s supported Linux installation guidance lists Flatpak and Ubuntu builds, and recommends Flatpak for distributions other than Ubuntu. Linux requires OpenGL 3.3 or later. Packages provided by other distributions may be community-maintained, so check their support and update practices if you use one. See OBS install instructions.
Set up the video loop
- Create a scene: In OBS, use the Scenes panel to create or select a scene for the broadcast.
- Add the video: In the Sources panel, select +, then Media Source. Create a new source, choose the Gurbani video file, and enable Loop.
- Set up a playlist instead: Install VLC with the architecture matching OBS. In Sources, select +, then VLC Video. Add the video files to its playlist and enable Loop Playlist.
- Check the scene: Confirm the source is visible in the active scene and the video appears in the OBS preview. If the source is hidden or outside the canvas, it will not appear in the broadcast.
- Check the loop boundary: Preview the end and restart of the video, listening for an abrupt audio cut or gap. If you use a playlist, check transitions between files too.
OBS documents the source and looping controls, but the best fit of encoding settings and hardware depends on your files, chosen output, and machine. Test the actual setup rather than assuming a universal computer requirement.

- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Connect OBS to YouTube Live
- Confirm channel eligibility: YouTube requires a verified channel and no live-streaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days. Check YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility guidance.
- Create or select a stream: In YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room, create or select the stream you intend to use. YouTube’s encoder workflow is described in Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder.
- Copy the connection details: Copy the server URL and stream key from YouTube into OBS’s streaming settings. Treat the stream key like a password: do not show it on screen or share it publicly. If it is exposed, replace or reset it in YouTube Studio.
- Choose RTMPS when available: YouTube’s encoder guidance recommends RTMPS. Use the server information provided for your stream rather than guessing a server address.
Choose encoder settings and verify upload capacity
YouTube’s encoder guide lists H.264 video, up to 60 fps, constant bitrate (CBR), AAC or MP3 audio, and a recommended two-second keyframe interval that should not exceed four seconds. Use YouTube’s current encoder settings, bitrate, and resolution guidance to select a bitrate for the resolution, frame rate, and codec you plan to send; do not pick one just because it worked for a different video or connection.
- Measure upload, not download: Test the connection that will carry the broadcast. YouTube recommends leaving 20% headroom above the total stream bitrate.
- Account for audio and network variation: The total stream bitrate must fit the available upload bandwidth. A connection interruption can break the stream; YouTube cautions, “A disruption on your connectivity could mean a broken stream.” See YouTube’s streaming tips.
- Test the real content: YouTube recommends testing with audio and movement similar to the planned stream. For a looping video, also listen across the loop point and verify the picture remains present.
Test the broadcast before leaving it running
- Start with a private or unlisted test if that suits your channel and audience plan.
- Start the stream from OBS and check YouTube’s Live Control Room for stream health and warnings.
- Watch and listen long enough to confirm video and audio are stable, including a loop boundary or playlist transition.
- Check OBS for dropped frames or connection warnings, and keep YouTube’s stream-health messages visible while you test.
- If the test is unstable, lower the output bitrate or resolution and test again; also investigate the network connection before scheduling a long broadcast.
Confirm rights for the exact recording
Gurbani’s religious character does not by itself establish permission to rebroadcast a particular recording. YouTube’s livestream terms and conditions place responsibility on the provider to have the necessary rights for live content, including applicable music licensing rights. Check rights for the specific performance, recording, video, and territories where it will be available. The status of an individual Gurbani recording cannot be determined without its licensing details.

Common problems and fixes
- VLC Video is missing from the source menu: Install VLC, then restart OBS. Confirm that VLC and OBS use the same architecture; 64-bit OBS needs 64-bit VLC.
- The video plays once and stops: Open the source properties and enable Loop for Media Source or Loop Playlist for VLC Video.
- The stream connects, but the video is absent: Check that the source is visible in the active scene, fits within the canvas, and is not covered by another source.
- YouTube reports a poor or unstable connection: Compare the total stream bitrate with measured upload capacity, retain YouTube’s recommended 20% headroom, and test at a lower bitrate if needed.
- The stream key does not work: Confirm you copied the key for the selected stream, not a different broadcast. Re-copy the current key from Live Control Room and keep it private.
- YouTube Live is unavailable for the channel: Check channel verification and whether a live-streaming restriction applies within the preceding 90 days.
- Audio cuts or clicks at a repeat: Listen to the file boundary in a test stream. A loop repeats the media; it does not guarantee a seamless edit. Use a properly edited file or playlist transition if the boundary is audible.
Or let it run in the cloud
If you want the YouTube stream to continue without keeping a Linux computer, OBS, or your home connection running, StreamNeo is a cloud alternative for uploaded videos. Upload the video or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live; StreamNeo loops the upload from the cloud and can recover automatically if YouTube drops the stream. It is YouTube-only and plays uploaded videos, not a live camera feed.
