A cloud service keeps the loop running without leaving a computer at home; a local encoder such as OBS gives you a software-based route but requires your computer and internet connection to stay available.
Before you start: check channel access and prepare the highlights
Enable livestreaming early
YouTube says a channel must be verified, have no live-stream restrictions in the preceding 90 days, and meet the minimum age of 16 to livestream. First-time live-stream enablement may take up to 24 hours, so check access well before the planned launch. Review the video and its rights
Assemble the highlights into a file and review the gameplay, overlays, soundtrack and any third-party clips. Owning the exported video does not automatically give you rights to every asset inside it. Keep permission or license records for material you did not create, and remove questionable segments if a copyright claim or match occurs. In particular, a game’s streaming terms may not cover music heard during gameplay.

YouTube’s encoder directory also lists cloud tools for continuous prerecorded streams. The two approaches handle the same basic delivery task, but with a local encoder you maintain the running setup; a cloud provider hosts the loop. YouTube describes an encoder this way: “An encoder converts your video into a digital format to stream on YouTube.”

Set up the YouTube broadcast
- Open YouTube Studio’s live controls. Create a live stream or select the one you intend to use. Set its title, description, category and visibility accurately; make clear that viewers are watching a prerecorded highlights loop rather than gameplay happening in real time.
- Copy the stream key privately. Enter the key and the destination details in your chosen encoder or service. Treat the key like a password: do not publish it, show it on stream or share it with people who do not need access. If it is exposed, replace it in YouTube Studio and update the encoder or service.
- Provide the highlights file. For a local setup, load the prepared video into your encoder and configure it to repeat. - Preview before leaving it unattended. Check that the right file is playing, the picture and sound are acceptable, the metadata and visibility are correct, and YouTube reports a healthy incoming stream. Keep a separate backup of the source video rather than assuming the broadcast will create an archive.
- Check the stream after launch. Confirm it remains live and that playback continues through the loop or playlist. Recheck it periodically, especially after changing files, keys or settings.
Do not assume one bitrate, resolution, frame rate, keyframe interval or archive setting is right for every encoder and stream. The available evidence does not establish a universal setting for all configurations; use the current instructions for your encoder and YouTube’s live controls rather than applying a vendor recommendation as a platform-wide rule.
Present a prerecorded loop honestly and protect monetization eligibility
A continuous loop of content you own or are licensed to use is not, by itself, described as categorically prohibited in the cited policy explainer.
