How to Make OBS Restart a 24/7 Indian Music Stream Automatically

A Windows startup shortcut can launch OBS and request streaming, but it is not a complete 24/7 recovery system. Set up looping audio, protect your stream key, and test reboot and network failures.

You can make OBS start a YouTube stream when Windows boots by launching OBS with the --startstreaming argument, but that alone does not guarantee a 24/7 stream will recover from every outage. First set up a looping music source and YouTube broadcast, then configure and test startup, reconnection, and failure recovery on your own PC.

What OBS can—and cannot—restart automatically

OBS can loop a local audio or video file, and a Windows community example shows how to ask OBS to start streaming when it launches. These are separate functions: looping repeats the media source, while the launch argument requests that OBS begin streaming. Neither, by itself, detects and repairs every possible failure.

OBS auto-reconnect can help with a dropped connection, but it is not a complete watchdog. It does not necessarily restart a crashed OBS process, fix a stuck media source, ensure the network is ready at boot, or clear a YouTube broadcast-selection prompt. Treat unattended operation as something to test—not a guarantee.

Add the audio file

  1. In OBS, create or open the scene you intend to stream.

    • Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
    • Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
    • Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
    • Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
    • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
  2. In the Sources panel, select + and add a Media Source. Give it a recognizable name, then select the music file on your computer.

  3. Enable Loop in the Media Source properties so playback repeats when the file ends. OBS lists MP3, AAC, OGG, and WAV among supported audio formats. The Restart playback when source becomes active option controls the media source when it becomes active; it does not restart OBS or the YouTube stream. See OBS Media Sources.

  4. Start playback and watch the audio meters in OBS. Check that the intended source is producing audio and that it is not clipping. If using audio monitoring, verify the chosen monitoring device and avoid routing monitored audio back into the stream a second time.

  5. Let the file reach its end and confirm it starts again. A playlist or multiple files may need different source and transition settings; verify the behavior in your actual scene before leaving it unattended.

Connect OBS to the right YouTube broadcast

  1. In YouTube Studio, open the live control room for the broadcast you intend to use and obtain its stream URL and stream key through YouTube’s encoder workflow.

  2. In OBS, open Settings > Stream, choose YouTube as the service, and connect using the method available in your OBS version—either account connection or the stream key. If entering a key, paste it carefully and keep it private. A stream key functions like a password; do not include it in screenshots, public files, or support posts.

  3. In YouTube’s live stream settings, review auto-start and auto-stop for the broadcast. Reusing settings can copy the stream key and those selections, so check them rather than assuming a reused broadcast is configured as intended. YouTube documents these controls at Manage live stream settings.

  4. Before automating startup, start the stream manually once. Confirm the correct broadcast is selected, the preview receives the OBS feed, the music is audible, and YouTube reports a healthy incoming stream.

Configure OBS to start streaming after a Windows reboot

A Windows OBS forum example uses the --startstreaming launch argument. It is community guidance, not an official cross-platform procedure; confirm the executable path and quoting for your installed OBS version. The example and discussion are at OBS forum: Autostart after e.g. Reboot.

  1. Locate the OBS shortcut you use to launch the installed version.

  2. Open the shortcut’s properties and find the Target field. Add a space after the closing quote for the OBS executable path, then add --startstreaming. Preserve the existing path and quote placement; do not replace the path with an assumed default.

  3. Use that shortcut from the Windows Startup folder, or configure a scheduled task to launch the shortcut when you sign in or the computer starts. Task Scheduler options and behavior depend on Windows and the account configuration; verify that the task runs in the session and with the permissions your OBS setup requires.

    • What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (7-in-1), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.
  4. If the PC’s network is not ready immediately after boot, a startup delay or connectivity check may reduce failed initial attempts. The sources do not establish a tested Task Scheduler recipe, so validate any delay or script on your system rather than assuming it will wait correctly.

  5. Reboot and observe the entire sequence: Windows starts, OBS opens, the intended scene and source load, the correct YouTube broadcast is selected, and streaming begins. A forum user has reported that the launch flag alone may still leave a broadcast-selection prompt; see the OBS forum discussion.

Use encoder settings suited to a continuous stream

Choose settings your upload connection and encoder can sustain continuously. YouTube’s encoder guidance recommends RTMP or RTMPS, H.264 video, CBR, a two-second keyframe interval (do not exceed four seconds), and AAC or MP3 audio. These are platform recommendations, not a promise that a stream will never disconnect. Follow YouTube’s current guidance at YouTube encoder settings.

Test recovery instead of assuming it

Test distinct failures one at a time while you can observe the PC and the public or unlisted viewer page. Do not test for the first time during a broadcast you cannot afford to lose.

  1. Reboot test: restart Windows and confirm OBS launches, the scene and looping source are ready, and the intended YouTube broadcast actually receives the stream.

  2. Network interruption test: briefly disconnect the network, restore it, and check whether OBS reconnects and YouTube resumes. Note whether the broadcast remains selected or requires action.

  3. Media test: let the track complete a full cycle and confirm it loops. Check again after hiding and reactivating the source if your scene uses visibility changes.

  4. Blocked-startup test: check for dialogs, account prompts, or YouTube broadcast-selection screens that would prevent unattended streaming.

OBS launching after a reboot is not the same as automatically restarting a dead OBS process or repairing a frozen source. The available Windows example demonstrates startup launching; it does not establish a validated watchdog or a recovery design for every failure. If you add scripts, scheduled tasks, or third-party monitoring, test each failure mode and decide how you will be alerted when recovery does not happen.

Plan separately for a live stream and an archive

A continuous YouTube live player and a complete recording are different goals. YouTube says streams shorter than 12 hours can be automatically archived, while a stream exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. If you need a durable copy, plan a local recording and verify that its file is growing; do not rely on the live archive for a 24/7 broadcast. See Archive live streams.

Clear music rights before broadcasting

Use tracks you own or are licensed to broadcast. Confirm that the permission covers YouTube live streaming, the countries where the stream may be viewed, and any archive or replay. YouTube’s live-stream settings can manage rights and Content ID policy, but those controls do not grant you permission to use a track. Review YouTube’s live stream settings guidance and the terms that apply to your music.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

For Indian music in particular, check the rights for each recording and composition rather than assuming that a devotional, traditional, or independently posted track is automatically free to rebroadcast. A claim, block, or takedown can interrupt a stream even when the OBS setup is working correctly.

Troubleshoot common failures

Symptom Likely cause What to check
OBS opens after reboot but does not stream The shortcut argument is missing or malformed, a dialog blocks startup, or the YouTube broadcast is not selected. Check the shortcut target and quoting, launch OBS manually with the same shortcut, and confirm the intended broadcast and any prompts.
Streaming fails only immediately after boot The network or YouTube connection may not be ready when OBS starts. Observe startup timing; test a deliberate delay or connectivity check and verify it on repeated reboots.
OBS says it is streaming but the viewer page is offline The selected broadcast, key, or YouTube-side state may not match the intended stream. Verify the correct stream key and broadcast in YouTube Studio, then inspect YouTube stream health and the viewer page.
Music stops when the file ends Loop is disabled or the wrong Media Source is active. Open Media Source properties, enable Loop, and test through the full file cycle.
OBS reconnects but the stream still does not recover The OBS process may be alive while the source, broadcast selection, or YouTube session needs intervention. Check the scene, source playback, broadcast selection, and YouTube status separately; auto-reconnect does not repair every failure.
The stream is live but no complete archive appears The broadcast exceeded YouTube’s archive capture window. For a stream exceeding 12 hours, do not assume YouTube will capture it; make and verify a local recording if an archive is required.
Music is claimed, blocked, or removed The track’s rights may not cover live use, territory, or replay. Resolve permissions with the rights holder or use music whose license explicitly covers the intended broadcast and archive.

Cost and equipment considerations

OBS requires a computer that stays on and encodes the stream. No universal minimum computer model is established here: the needed capacity depends on your encoder, resolution, visuals, and workload. A UPS may bridge a brief power interruption, but it cannot fix internet loss or software failures. Include the PC’s electricity and internet availability in the cost of keeping a local setup running.

Or let it run in the cloud

If you do not want a home PC to be the point of failure, StreamNeo is a YouTube-only cloud service for looping uploaded videos. Upload a recording or playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. Nothing has to stay on at home; the upload streams as made, up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, with automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly billing is $9.99 per month. In India, UPI works as well as cards. Start your free first day on StreamNeo.
