This places the logo in the outgoing stream image; it does not change your YouTube channel avatar or add a logo to a video after upload.
Here, “VOD” can mean recorded gameplay played as a live broadcast or the replay of a live broadcast. The OBS overlay steps work for either: put the same logo source above live gameplay capture or a prerecorded video source. The archive caveat is different: YouTube does not promise a complete replay for a continuous broadcast longer than 12 hours.
How to add a logo overlay in OBS
- Select the broadcast scene. Open OBS and select the scene that sends video to YouTube. If you do not have a suitable scene, create one.
- Add the logo image. In the Sources dock, select +, choose Image, and browse to the logo file. A transparent PNG is useful for placing a clean logo over gameplay, but OBS does not require that format.
- Put the logo on top. In the Sources list, move the Image source above the game capture, media source, or other video source. OBS explains that a source listed above another appears on top and can hide what is underneath it (OBS Project’s Sources Guide).
- Position and size it. Select the logo in the preview and drag it to the desired corner or other clear area. Drag its bounding-box handles to resize it. For precise placement, use Edit → Transform → Edit Transform.
- Check the audience view. Make sure the logo does not cover a minimap, subtitles, health bars, or other game information viewers need.
- Confirm the active scene. The logo must be in the scene actually used for the outgoing broadcast. Check the preview before going live.
These controls affect the composed stream video. They do not edit a completed upload or change the channel’s profile image.
Choose the video source beneath the logo
The logo stays an Image source in either setup; choose the source underneath it based on whether you are capturing a game live or playing recorded footage.

For a local recording, add it as a Media Source and enable Loop if you want that file to repeat. If you need a playlist rather than one file, use VLC Video with VLC installed. Add the logo above whichever source carries the footage.
Will YouTube save the full VOD from a continuous livestream?
A live broadcast and its YouTube archive are separate outcomes. YouTube Help says, “If your live stream is less than 12 hours long, YouTube can automatically archive it for you.” It also warns, “If your stream exceeds 12 hours, it may not be captured at all.” The wording is conditional: it does not guarantee every stream under 12 hours will be archived, nor that a longer stream will never be archived. If a complete replay matters, record locally as a backup and check the channel archive after the broadcast. Do not rely on an uninterrupted, day-long stream becoming one complete YouTube VOD.
Copyright and stream-content checks
- Use gameplay, music, and other material you have permission to stream and archive. Adding a logo does not grant rights to the underlying footage or audio.
- If you are looping prerecorded gameplay, consider whether the broadcast offers viewers meaningful context or commentary; an overlay alone does not change the content itself.
- Confirm the video and audio are present in the OBS preview before starting, and make a local recording if you need your own backup copy.
