In OBS, add a VLC Video Source to your scene, load your clips in order, and enable Loop Playlist. That repeats the list, but OBS does not promise gapless playback when switching between separate files. If a pause, black flash, or audio break appears at a boundary, combine the clips into one continuous file and play it with a Media Source with Loop enabled. Test both methods with your actual files before broadcasting.
Loop multiple videos with a VLC Video Source
OBS’s VLC Video Source can play a playlist of local video files. It requires VLC to be installed, and the VLC architecture must match OBS: 64-bit OBS requires 64-bit VLC. If the VLC source option is missing, check this installation first.
- Install VLC in the same architecture as your OBS installation.
- In OBS, open the scene you want to use. In the Sources dock, select + and add VLC Video Source.
- In the source properties, add the video files to the playlist in the order you want them to play.
- Leave Shuffle Playlist off for a fixed sequence. Enable Loop Playlist to restart from the first item after the final clip. OBS lists Shuffle Playlist as off and Loop Playlist as on by default, but check the source properties rather than relying on defaults.
- Play the source and watch and listen through each file change, including the last-to-first restart. If you find a gap, use the single-file workaround below.
What “without a transition gap” means in OBS
There are two different boundaries to consider: the change from one playlist file to the next, and the end-to-start restart after the final file. Enabling Loop Playlist makes the list repeat; it does not certify frame-accurate or audio-sample-accurate continuity at either boundary. OBS’s documentation describes the playlist and loop settings but does not guarantee that separate files switch without a visible or audible break.
Scene transitions are separate. OBS’s built-in Cut and Fade transitions control what happens when you switch scenes. A change between files inside one VLC playlist is handled by the media source, so choosing Cut does not establish gapless playlist playback.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Workaround: combine the clips into one continuous file
If a VLC playlist pauses, flashes black, or interrupts audio at a file boundary, a reasonable workaround is to join the clips into a single continuous media file, then play that file in OBS. This avoids asking the source to switch between separate playlist items. It is a practical approach, not a guarantee: check the joined file and its loop point with the actual clips and system you plan to use.
- Prepare one continuous file from the clips, in the intended order.
- In OBS, add a Media Source to the scene and select the combined local file.
- Enable Loop in the Media Source properties.
- Test playback through the end of the file and across the end-to-start restart. Check picture and sound, not just whether the file continues playing.
Connect OBS to YouTube and test before going live
YouTube encoder-based streaming uses a server URL and stream key. Get them in YouTube’s Live Control Room and enter them in OBS’s streaming settings. Start the encoder, check the Live Control Room preview, and go live only after the preview and stream health look right.

- In YouTube Live Control Room, set up the stream and retrieve its server URL and stream key.
- In OBS, open Settings > Stream, choose YouTube as the service if available, and enter or connect the stream details. Use the server URL and key from YouTube if you configure them manually.
- Set the encoder’s resolution, frame rate, codec, bitrate, and keyframe interval for your chosen output. YouTube’s current encoder guidance covers RTMP/RTMPS, supported video codecs, frame rates up to 60 fps, bitrate ranges by resolution and frame rate, and a recommended two-second keyframe frequency with a four-second maximum. Follow the current recommendations for your chosen resolution and codec rather than treating one bitrate as suitable for every stream.
- Check that your internet upload capacity can sustain the selected bitrate. Then start the encoder and inspect YouTube’s preview and stream health before making the broadcast public.
- Test the exact playlist or combined file you intend to stream. Watch and listen at every clip boundary and the loop point; also check that the YouTube preview stays healthy.
YouTube recommends testing before a broadcast and monitoring stream health and audio/video quality. A clean local playback test and a clean viewer experience are related but not identical: YouTube’s stream latency is the delay between capture/encoding and viewer playback, and lower latency may mean more playback buffering.
Troubleshoot a black flash, pause, or audio break
| Symptom | What to check | Next step |
|---|---|---|
| VLC Video Source is unavailable in OBS | Whether VLC is installed and whether its architecture matches OBS. | Install the matching VLC version; 64-bit OBS needs 64-bit VLC. |
| Clips play in the wrong order | The playlist order and whether Shuffle Playlist is enabled. | Arrange the items as intended and turn Shuffle Playlist off for a fixed sequence. |
| The list stops after its last clip | Whether Loop Playlist is enabled on the VLC Video Source. | Enable Loop Playlist and test the last-to-first restart. |
| A black flash, pause, or audio break occurs between playlist files | The exact boundary in local playback; the problem can depend on the files and setup, and OBS does not diagnose every particular case. | Try joining the clips into one continuous file, play it through a Media Source with Loop enabled, and test again. |
| A scene switch fades or cuts unexpectedly | The scene transition setting. It affects scene changes, not changes between items inside a playlist. | Set the desired scene transition for scene changes, but address playlist gaps at the media-source level. |
| Local playback looks smooth but YouTube playback buffers | YouTube preview and stream health, encoder settings, upload capacity, and the viewer-side latency and buffering experience. | Check the stream health and settings for the selected resolution and codec; do not assume that changing OBS’s scene transition will fix delivery buffering. |
