To run prerecorded video continuously on YouTube from a Mumbai VPS, install FFmpeg on a Linux virtual server, send the video to YouTube using its RTMPS ingest address and stream key, and keep the encoder process supervised and monitored. The VPS handles the encoding and upload while it is running; it does not by itself guarantee an uninterrupted stream. You remain responsible for the source file, server capacity, network transfer allowance, credentials, and recovery.
This guide covers a single prerecorded feed. A camera production, multiple output formats, or a managed broadcast workflow may need a different setup.
What you need before you start
- An eligible YouTube channel. YouTube Help says the channel must be verified, have no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days, and the streamer must be at least 16. Check the current YouTube live-streaming eligibility requirements before provisioning the server.
- A Linux VPS in Mumbai. Choose a plan based on sustained outbound transfer and the CPU capacity required to encode your chosen resolution and frame rate—not just its advertised port speed.
- A source video you have the right to broadcast. Check that the picture and audio play correctly and that the file is available on the server.
- An FFmpeg build suitable for your encoding method and a process supervisor or equivalent restart mechanism.
- A YouTube stream key and ingest address. Treat the key like a password; anyone who obtains it may be able to broadcast to your channel.
The publishing path is source file → FFmpeg process on the VPS → YouTube ingest URL and stream key. A process supervisor can restart a crashed encoder, but it cannot repair a failed VPS, missing file, blocked outbound connection, or YouTube ingest problem.
Choose a VPS that can sustain the stream
Check transfer allowance as well as port speed
A continuous stream transfers data all day. YouTube recommends keeping available bandwidth roughly 20% above the total bitrate of the stream; see its live encoder, bitrate, and connection tips. A provider’s port-speed headline alone does not establish that a plan can sustain the rate or includes enough monthly traffic. Confirm the plan’s transfer quota, what happens when it is exhausted, and whether traffic is throttled.

- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
As a planning estimate, at a steady bitrate of R Mbps, decimal transfer is about R × 10.8 GB per day, or about R × 324 GB over 30 days, before protocol overhead. This is arithmetic based on the bitrate and duration, not a provider guarantee. For example, a 14 Mbps feed uses roughly 4,536 GB over 30 days before overhead. Leave room for overhead and bitrate variation.
Check CPU, route, recovery, and support
- Confirm that the VPS CPU can encode the selected resolution and frame rate in real time, if you are encoding on the server. Test the actual file and settings; a plan label does not establish performance.
- Check route quality to YouTube ingest from your VPS. Mumbai location may suit an India-based operator, but does not prove that the route to a particular ingest server is optimal.
- Ask how the provider handles reboots, maintenance, quota exhaustion, and support. Provider uptime marketing and advertised network speed are not guarantees of an uninterrupted broadcast.
- Consider what happens if the VM or its network becomes unavailable. A single server and publishing path are single points of failure.
Example: published Mumbai traffic allowances
Melbicom advertises the following Mumbai VPS traffic allowances and says speed is limited to 10 Mbps after the included allowance. These are provider-published plan claims, not an independent performance test; check the live plan terms before purchase.

| Melbicom Mumbai plan tier | Advertised monthly traffic |
|---|---|
| KVM-1 / WIN-2 | 2 TB |
| KVM-2 / WIN-4 | 4 TB |
| Higher tiers | 5 TB |
Compare these allowances with your calculated monthly transfer needs, including overhead. A plan that throttles below your target bitrate after its allowance may no longer be able to sustain the stream.
Set up YouTube ingest and encoder settings
Use RTMPS and keep the key private
YouTube Help states: “You can stream to YouTube Live with RTMPS, a secure extension to the popular RTMP streaming video protocol.” Use the ingest address and stream key provided in YouTube’s live setup. Follow YouTube’s encoder setup instructions to enter them and inspect the Live Control Room preview. YouTube also documents how to find or reset a stream key.

Store the key in a configuration file readable only by the account running the encoder, or in a secrets manager. Do not place it in a public repository, expose it in a world-readable file, or paste it into logs or support messages. If it is compromised, reset it in YouTube and update the encoder with the replacement.
Match encoder output to your source and connection
YouTube’s recommended live encoder settings include CBR for H.264 and a two-second keyframe interval (no more than four seconds). Bitrate recommendations vary by resolution and frame rate; examples from YouTube’s guidance are:

| Output | YouTube-recommended bitrate |
|---|---|
| 720p at 30 fps | 8 Mbps |
| 1080p at 30 fps | 14 Mbps |
| 1080p at 60 fps | 17 Mbps |
Use YouTube’s current settings table for other resolutions and frame rates rather than extrapolating from these examples. Select a bitrate your VPS route can sustain with YouTube’s recommended bandwidth headroom. The encoder’s output must also fit the CPU capacity and transfer allowance you checked.

- Provision the Mumbai VPS. Select a Linux image, secure administrator access, and confirm outbound RTMPS connectivity and the plan’s monthly transfer and throttling terms.
- Upload and inspect the source. Put the video in a stable location on the server. Check that it decodes, has the intended audio, and is legally usable for a YouTube broadcast.
- Install FFmpeg and configure the encoder. Use settings compatible with the source and YouTube’s current guidance: H.264 with CBR, a two-second keyframe interval (never above four seconds), and an appropriate resolution-specific bitrate. Configure the input to loop and send output to YouTube over RTMPS.
- Protect the stream key. Supply the key through a restricted configuration file or secret store. Keep it out of source code, public logs, and files readable by unrelated users.
- Start a test transmission. In YouTube’s Live Control Room, inspect the preview, stream-health messages, audio, video, and intended privacy setting. YouTube recommends testing before going live and checking the encoder and stream quality.
- Verify sustained operation. Confirm the VPS can encode the selected output in real time, the video loops as intended, and audio remains correct. Check outbound usage and stream health over a meaningful test period before leaving it unattended.
- Configure recovery and monitoring. Arrange for the encoder process to restart after a crash and monitor both the process and the public stream. A restart policy helps with a failed process only; it does not restore a failed VM, repair connectivity, or resolve an ingest rejection.
For production, do not assume that one long broadcast will be archived indefinitely. YouTube’s encoder article says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived; if archives matter, verify the current YouTube limits and plan stream segmentation accordingly.
Keep the channel and content in good standing
- Broadcast only video and audio you have permission to use. A live loop is still a public transmission; looping a recording does not create rights to its music, footage, or other material.
- Check YouTube’s current live-streaming eligibility before setup and review any channel restrictions that could prevent going live.
- Choose the intended public, unlisted, or private destination in YouTube before starting the stream, then confirm it in the Live Control Room.
- Keep the source and presentation useful to viewers. Replaying content does not guarantee audience reach or monetization eligibility; assess YouTube’s current channel monetization and reused-content policies separately.
Troubleshooting common failures
| Symptom | Likely cause | What to check or do |
|---|---|---|
| YouTube receives no signal | Wrong ingest address or stream key, encoder not running, or outbound connection failure. | Check the Live Control Room setup, encoder logs without exposing the key, and outbound RTMPS connectivity. If the key may have leaked, reset it in YouTube and update the encoder. |
| Stream starts but drops or buffers | Insufficient sustained bandwidth, route instability, or transfer throttling. | Compare actual output bitrate with available bandwidth, preserve YouTube’s recommended roughly 20% headroom, and check whether the provider has exhausted or throttled the monthly allowance. |
| Video or audio stutters | Encoding overload, input decode problem, unstable network, or unsuitable settings. | Inspect VPS CPU use and FFmpeg output, test the source locally on the server, and check YouTube’s stream-health messages. Reduce output demands only if the revised bitrate and quality remain suitable. |
| Loop does not restart cleanly | Input looping or file handling is misconfigured, or the encoder exits at end-of-file. | Test the loop behavior before launch and inspect the process logs. Configure and verify the loop in the encoder rather than assuming a supervisor will replay a completed input. |
| Process restarts but stream remains offline | The failure is outside the encoder process, such as a VPS outage, missing file, blocked egress, or YouTube ingest issue. | Check VM availability, source-file access, network connectivity, and YouTube status and stream-health messages. A process restart alone cannot fix these failures. |
| Stream key no longer works | The key was reset, copied incorrectly, or replaced without updating the encoder. | Confirm the active key in YouTube’s stream settings and update the restricted encoder configuration. Reset the key if it may be compromised. |
