How do I set up a 24/7 live stream on YouTube?
You can use an encoder on a computer or dedicated encoding hardware. YouTube lists encoder streaming as a live method; OBS Studio is one software option, not a requirement. In the encoder, make a scene with your permitted album art as the visual and route the cleared music into its audio input. YouTube’s reviewed guidance does not prescribe a special still-image layout or universal bitrate, resolution, keyframe interval, computer specification, or upload-speed minimum for this particular setup. Avoid treating a number from another streaming scenario as a guaranteed requirement here; test your actual encoder, connection, and output in YouTube’s Live Control Room.
1. Enable livestreaming before you plan to launch
YouTube requires a verified channel without livestreaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. YouTube for Artists advises first-time music streamers to enable livestreaming at least 24 hours before going live. Check the channel’s eligibility early rather than discovering an activation delay on launch day.
2. Prepare the audio, image, and encoder
- Choose the recordings and identify the underlying musical or literary works. Confirm that the permissions cover livestreaming and the territories where you expect the broadcast to be available.
- Use album art you own or have permission to display. Attribution may be required by an agreement, but credit by itself is not permission.
- Set the album art as the encoder’s visual source and connect the planned music as its audio source. OBS can be configured through its streaming workflow, but neither OBS nor specific hardware is mandatory.
- Check the encoder’s output and audio routing before connecting. The sources reviewed do not establish universal technical settings for this still-art use case; use the encoder and YouTube preview to verify that the picture and sound arrive as intended.
3. Create and test the event in YouTube Studio
- Open YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room and configure the live event using the encoder method.
- Connect the encoder with the stream key for that event. Keep the key private; anyone who can use it may be able to send a stream to the channel.
- Follow YouTube for Artists’ recommendation to test as an unlisted stream before launch. Confirm the Live Control Room receives the feed, inspect the preview, listen to the audio, and check that the watch page behaves as planned.
- Only after the test succeeds, schedule or switch to the intended public broadcast.
4. Monitor the live stream and plan for interruptions
A 24/7 broadcast needs a person or operational arrangement that can notice a dropped encoder, failed connection, or YouTube warning and respond. Have a way to stop or replace audio if a rights issue appears. Do not assume that a stream will recover without intervention unless the specific system you choose provides that function.

Can I livestream Indian songs on YouTube with album art?
Only if you have the necessary rights for both the music and the image. An Indian music stream can involve separate rights in the musical or literary work and in a particular sound recording. India’s Copyright Act describes copyright in musical works and sound recordings as including rights to communicate them to the public. That framework does not establish which permission applies to a particular catalogue, agreement, or YouTube broadcast.
Check the recording and composition separately
For each track, identify who controls the sound recording and who controls the underlying composition or literary work. Ask the relevant label, distributor, publisher, recording owner, or an India-qualified music-rights professional whether your permission covers the intended livestream, territories, replay or archive, and monetization. Keep written records of the permissions. Do not assume that possessing an audio file, paying a collecting society, or having a platform account automatically clears every right.

Coordinate YouTube Content ID allowlisting
YouTube scans livestreams for matches to third-party content. A match may cause YouTube to show a placeholder image and warn the streamer; continued use may interrupt or terminate the stream. YouTube also says that a channel may need to be added to the rights owner’s Content ID allowlist even when the creator has licensed the music. Ask the relevant owner to arrange allowlisting before launch and test the channel. A licence and an allowlist address different practical issues, and neither should be presented as a guarantee of uninterrupted streaming.
Clear the album art as well as the audio
The art is the stream’s visual presentation; it does not clear the compositions or recordings. Confirm that you can display the specific cover image. If you later use animated artwork, video, or other visuals, check the rights for those assets too. The sources reviewed do not establish a YouTube resolution, motion, or layout rule specific to an album-art-only 24/7 broadcast.

One 24-hour broadcast or shorter segments?
The choice affects continuity, archive length, and how often someone must start and check the stream. YouTube’s official live-production guide says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived and advises separately recording longer broadcasts when a replay is needed. It does not prescribe a schedule for splitting a 24/7 channel into segments.

Choose an encoding setup you can actually maintain
Neither computer-hosted software encoding nor dedicated hardware encoding is established as universally better for this job. Choose based on who can operate it and recover it during a long run, rather than buying equipment on the assumption that YouTube requires it.

Troubleshooting common problems
- Livestreaming is unavailable: Check that the channel is verified and has no livestream restriction in the previous 90 days. If this is the first livestream, allow at least the 24-hour lead time recommended by YouTube for Artists for enabling the feature.
- The Live Control Room receives no picture or sound: Check the encoder connection and event’s stream key, then verify that the album-art visual source and music audio route are active. Test again as unlisted and inspect the preview and watch page.
- YouTube replaces the image or interrupts the broadcast: A third-party-content match may be responsible. Check YouTube’s warning, stop or replace the potentially problematic audio, and contact the relevant rights owner about permission and Content ID allowlisting before restarting.
- The stream stops unexpectedly: Check whether the encoder, computer or hardware, or connection stopped sending. Restart using your recovery plan and confirm the feed returns in the Live Control Room; a 24/7 setup requires monitoring rather than an assumption of uninterrupted operation.
- The replay is incomplete or missing after a long run: Do not rely on a continuous 24-hour broadcast producing a complete automatic archive. For broadcasts longer than 12 hours, YouTube’s official guide advises making a separate recording when a replay is required.
