You can rerun board game sessions on YouTube Live by sending a prerecorded session through a live encoder such as OBS, or by using a cloud service to play uploaded videos. First confirm your channel can stream, choose scheduled reruns or a continuous loop, make the game easy to see and hear, and test the stream. YouTube documents encoder live streaming and copyright enforcement, but its cited help pages do not expressly guarantee a 24/7 prerecorded rerun format.
Can you stream prerecorded videos live on YouTube?
YouTube supports live streaming with an encoder, a method commonly used for cameras, microphones, and overlays. Its cited help pages do not expressly confirm or guarantee a continuous prerecorded rerun format. Treat a rerun as a programming and production choice, not as a special YouTube approval or a promise of uninterrupted service.
Decide what viewers will see and know: a scheduled rerun with a clear start and end, or an always-on loop. Label prerecorded content accurately so viewers are not led to believe a session is happening in real time. Plan for monitoring, interruptions, and what happens to the archive.
How do I rerun a board game session on YouTube Live?
1. Confirm live-stream access
YouTube Help says a channel must be verified and must not have had a live-stream restriction in the previous 90 days. YouTube also says creators must be at least 16 to live stream. Check YouTube’s live-streaming requirements and setup guidance before building your schedule. This is not a guarantee of eligibility for ads, memberships, or other channel features.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
2. Choose scheduled reruns or a continuous loop
- Scheduled rerun: Give the broadcast a specific episode context and start and end time. This is easier to explain and organize for viewers looking for a particular session.
- Continuous loop: Make clear in the title and description that the session is prerecorded and looping. Arrange monitoring and a recovery plan for encoder or internet failures; the cited sources do not establish guaranteed uptime or how long a 24/7 broadcast will remain archived.
Use an accurate title and description that identify the game and episode, say it is a replay or rerun, and clarify whether chat is live or moderated. Keep episodes in a consistent naming scheme and organize them into playlists so viewers can follow a game or campaign in order. These are practical labeling recommendations, not quoted YouTube requirements.
3. Prepare a readable game feed
For a physical tabletop session, prioritize a stable, unobstructed view of the board, cards, and player actions. An overhead camera mount or tabletop stand may help keep framing consistent, but fit depends on your camera, table, reach, and mounting method; no particular accessory is tested or endorsed here. Add a host camera only if it does not hide the game.

In OBS, add a camera as a video capture source, then position it in the scene. For digital gameplay, capture the game output and add a host view or commentary if useful. OBS’s game-screen layout tutorial covers arranging sources and balancing audio.
For console footage, a capture device may be needed to bring the output into OBS. OBS notes that Nintendo Switch family systems can use a capture device when docked; the Switch Lite cannot be docked for that approach. Check the OBS console-capture guide for the relevant setup.

4. Configure OBS and rehearse
Use OBS or another encoder to send your composed scene to YouTube. The specific controls and labels can vary by encoder version, so follow the current interface and YouTube’s setup instructions rather than assuming every menu is identical.
- Build the scene: Add the tabletop camera or console capture device as a source, arrange it so the board state is legible, and add any host view or overlays you need.
- Set audio: Select the intended microphone and other audio devices. Speak at a level that is easy to hear; reduce game or desktop audio if it competes with table commentary.
- Configure output and connect to YouTube: Follow OBS’s current setup flow and YouTube’s live-stream instructions for the encoder and stream connection. Keep the stream key private; anyone with access to it may be able to broadcast to your channel.
- Test before the first public session: OBS recommends testing settings. Rehearse in a private or otherwise suitable way, checking framing, focus, glare on the board, microphone clarity, dropped frames, scene transitions, and the opening and ending slate.
- Monitor the broadcast: For a continuous stream, decide who will watch for audio or video problems and what to do if the encoder or internet connection drops. Do not promise viewers uninterrupted service unless you can support that claim.
OBS’s Quick Start Guide explains adding sources, selecting audio devices, configuring output, and testing before streaming.

Will music or game art cause a copyright claim on a live rerun?
It can. A board game recording may include copyrighted music, artwork, card text, video, or other material. YouTube says live streams are scanned for third-party content. A match can replace the stream with a placeholder and trigger a warning; if the content remains, YouTube may interrupt or terminate the broadcast. Even licensed material may be interrupted if the rights holder has not allowlisted your channel. See YouTube’s guidance on copyright issues with live streams.
An uninterrupted broadcast does not mean its archive is clear: YouTube says a live archive can receive Content ID claims after the stream ends. Check the claims and notices in YouTube Studio after each broadcast.

- Check the particular game publisher’s current policy and obtain permission where appropriate. The answer can depend on the game, publisher, territory, and what is shown; there is no blanket permission established here for showing game components or text.
- If music is not essential, leave it out or use music you have rights to use.
- Do not assume commentary alone resolves rights questions. YouTube’s enforcement guidance does not decide the underlying rights for every game or use.
YouTube also publishes guidance on avoiding live-streaming restrictions; check it alongside the current copyright help page.
Should you run the rerun locally or in the cloud?
A local encoder gives you direct control over scenes and lets you watch the production on your own setup, but the computer and internet connection running it must remain available. A cloud approach can play uploaded videos without keeping a home computer on. Neither choice changes YouTube’s copyright rules, and a service’s own current terms should be checked before use.
Or let it run in the cloud
StreamNeo is a cloud service for keeping a YouTube channel live from uploaded videos. Upload the recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. Nothing has to stay on at home; it plays what you upload, up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, and automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly billing is $9.99 per month. It is for YouTube streams of uploaded videos, not camera broadcasts. Start your free day on StreamNeo.
