For several videos played in sequence, use VLC Video Source, install VLC first, and enable Loop Playlist. These controls loop media inside OBS; they do not by themselves keep a YouTube broadcast online 24/7.
Choose the OBS source that fits your playlist

OBS describes VLC Video Source as allowing a playlist of items, “similar to an Image Slideshow.” VLC must be installed for this source type to appear. If OBS is 64-bit, install 64-bit VLC.
Set up a repeating single video with Media Source
- In OBS, select the scene that will contain the gameplay video.
- In the Sources panel, select + and choose Media Source. Name the source if useful, then confirm.
- In the source properties, enable Local File if needed and browse to the video file.
- Turn on Loop, then select OK.
- Check the preview and audio meters. Confirm the file plays and returns to its beginning when it ends.
OBS documents Media Source support for formats including MP4, TS, MOV, FLV, MKV, AVI, GIF, and WebM, plus MP3, AAC, OGG, and WAV audio. That is a documented baseline, not a guarantee that every file will play on every system; support can vary with the environment.
Build a multi-video playlist with VLC Video Source
- Install VLC before opening the source menu. Match its architecture to OBS: 64-bit OBS requires 64-bit VLC.
- In OBS, select the intended scene. In Sources, select + and choose VLC Video Source.
- In the source properties, add the local video files to the playlist in the order you want them to play.
- Leave Loop Playlist enabled if the list should begin again after its final item. OBS documentation cited here says this option is on by default.
- Enable Shuffle Playlist only if you want randomized playback rather than a fixed sequence; it is off by default in that documentation.
- Confirm the source and check playback in the preview. Verify each file’s video and audio before relying on the playlist.
Exact property labels and controls can vary by installed OBS version. VLC source properties also include visibility behavior choices, such as whether playback stops or restarts when the source is hidden versus continuing. These settings affect source playback in the scene; they are not controls for starting or stopping the YouTube broadcast.

What looping does—and does not—keep online
Loop and Loop Playlist govern what the OBS source plays. They are not an uptime guarantee for OBS, the computer, the internet connection, the encoder, or YouTube Live. If any of those stops delivering, a correctly configured media loop cannot restore the broadcast by itself.
OBS’s documentation describes source controls but does not compare the sources’ reliability, CPU or GPU use, or transition smoothness. Choose by playlist need, not by assuming one source is more stable or seamless.

Connect OBS to YouTube without confusing playback with broadcast
Adding either source only configures scene media. You still need to configure OBS’s YouTube connection and start the broadcast separately. Keep your stream key private; do not put it in a playlist, video, or public screenshot. The materials available here do not establish YouTube’s current rules for maximum continuous-live duration, archives, or reconnect behavior, so check YouTube’s current guidance before planning an uninterrupted schedule.
YouTube’s cited HLS guidance is protocol-specific, not a general checklist for every OBS-to-YouTube stream. For HLS ingestion, YouTube specifies TS segments of 1–4 seconds, no byte-range requests, a rolling playlist with no more than five outstanding segments, HTTPS POST/PUT, and limited encryption requirements. Do not apply those HLS settings as universal OBS requirements or use them to infer duration, archiving, or recovery policy.

Common problems and fixes
- VLC Video Source is missing: Install VLC, then reopen OBS. For 64-bit OBS, use 64-bit VLC.
- A single video stops at the end: Open Media Source properties and enable Loop.
- A playlist ends instead of starting again: Open VLC Video Source properties and check Loop Playlist.
- Videos play in an unexpected order: Check whether Shuffle Playlist is enabled; turn it off for the listed sequence.
- Playback changes when switching scenes or hiding a source: Check the VLC source’s visibility behavior in its properties. The labels and exact behavior may differ by OBS version.
- The video loops, but YouTube goes offline: The loop only controls media playback. Check OBS, the computer, network, encoder, and YouTube connection separately.
- A media file will not play: Confirm the path is valid and test a supported format from OBS’s documented list. File support can depend on the system environment.
