You can schedule children’s storytime livestreams in YouTube Studio, but a schedule does not make a stream run continuously or loop stories by itself. For a dependable archive, plan sessions shorter than 12 hours, deliver each feed through a supported streaming method, and keep a local recording. A single 24-hour stream may not be archived by YouTube, and YouTube’s guidance does not promise seamless automatic handoffs between scheduled sessions.
What “24/7 schedule” can mean on YouTube
A scheduled livestream is an upcoming event with a start time. You still need to send a live program feed using a supported method: mobile, webcam, encoder, or console. Scheduling alone neither plays a playlist nor keeps the channel live around the clock. YouTube says scheduled streams may appear to subscribers as upcoming, but Made for Kids streams do not offer reminder notifications, so do not rely on reminders to bring viewers to a children’s broadcast. YouTube’s live stream settings guidance explains scheduling; its live streaming eligibility and methods page lists supported methods.
If by 24/7 you mean one uninterrupted broadcast, that is different from a calendar of scheduled sessions. YouTube’s reviewed guidance does not establish an automated recurring schedule or guarantee that one session will hand off to another without a gap. Build a realistic operating plan rather than promising viewers a seamless, always-live stream.
Check eligibility before building the schedule
- The channel must be verified and must not have had livestreaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days.
- YouTube states that creators must be at least 16 years old to livestream.
- Choose the production method before scheduling: mobile, webcam, encoder, or console. Consider whether it can remain connected for the length of each session and whether you can retain a separate local recording.

Schedule a storytime livestream in YouTube Studio
- Open Live Control Room. In YouTube Studio, select Create → Go live. Choose the option for the method you will use to send the feed.
- Create the event. Enter the stream title and other details, choose its privacy setting, and set the audience. Use a title and description that accurately describe the stories and program.
- Set the audience accurately. For storytime deliberately directed at children, select Yes, it’s made for kids. YouTube says every creator must identify whether content is made for kids; stories and other subject matter reflecting an intent to target children are likely to qualify. The creator is responsible for the designation. YouTube advises consulting its guidance or legal counsel if unsure; do not rely on automated systems to decide accurately. - Choose the schedule option. Select the option to schedule the stream for a later date and time, set the start time, and review the event details before publishing the schedule. - Prepare the feed and start the event. At the scheduled time, connect the chosen source and deliver the live program. The event page does not generate storytime content or transmit it on your behalf.
Plan session length around archives and DVR
YouTube says streams shorter than 12 hours can be automatically archived. Streams exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. DVR rewind may also be limited or unavailable after 12 hours. If preserving each reading matters, divide the program into sessions shorter than 12 hours and record locally as a backup. This is a practical response to YouTube’s stated limits, not a YouTube requirement for a particular schedule design. See Archive live streams and Turn on DVR on live streams.
Shorter sessions mean more starts and transitions to manage. Decide who will monitor the stream, start each session, and check the local recording. YouTube’s guidance does not establish that separate scheduled sessions preserve one uninterrupted live URL or transition automatically.

What changes when a stream is Made for Kids
Correctly marking child-directed storytime as Made for Kids affects how viewers can participate and how the event behaves. YouTube says these livestreams do not offer live chat, chat donations, or reminder notifications. Comments and personalized ads are also restricted or disabled, although contextual ads may still appear. Choose a practical 24/7 operating model
- Scheduled shorter sessions: Better aligned with YouTube’s archive guidance; requires someone or a process to start and monitor each event. Do not assume transitions are seamless.
- One long session: Fewer starts, but a stream exceeding 12 hours may not be captured and DVR may be limited. Keep a local recording if the archive matters.
- Continuous pre-recorded playback: YouTube’s scheduling interface alone does not create or loop a program. You need a source that actually sends the feed. Use stories, narration, music, illustrations, and recordings only when you have the rights needed to stream and archive them; copyright status can depend on territory and edition.
Troubleshooting common planning problems
- You cannot start a livestream: Check that the channel is verified and has no livestream restriction from the last 90 days; confirm the creator meets YouTube’s stated minimum age of 16.
- The event is scheduled but nothing is playing: Scheduling creates an event, not a feed. Connect and start the selected mobile, webcam, encoder, or console source.
- Viewers cannot chat or receive a reminder: Those features are unavailable for Made for Kids livestreams. Keep the audience setting accurate and plan communication outside those disabled features.
- The replay is missing or cannot be rewound far back: If the session exceeded 12 hours, YouTube may not have captured it, and DVR can be limited. Shorten future sessions and retain local recordings.
- There is a gap between sessions: YouTube’s scheduling guidance does not promise automatic handoff. Assign an operator to manage each start and transition, or choose a setup designed to keep the feed running and monitor it.
