Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFor a mostly static educational feed—slides, diagrams, or a fixed camera view—a sensible starting profile is 1080p at 30 fps, H.264, CBR at 14 Mbps, a 2-second keyframe interval, AAC stereo at 128 Kbps and 44.1 kHz, and RTMPS. Use it only if your connection and encoder can sustain it reliably around the clock; YouTube’s figures are recommended live-ingest settings, not a guarantee of quality or uninterrupted operation.
Recommended settings for a 24/7 educational stream
Start with the profile below, then test it using the actual lesson content, audio, encoder, and network you intend to use. YouTube automatically transcodes incoming live video for different viewer devices and network conditions, so you do not need to send a separate rendition for every screen.
| Setting | Starting value | When to adjust |
|---|---|---|
| Resolution and frame rate | 1080p30 | Use 1080p60 only when smoother motion matters and the encoder and connection can sustain the higher bitrate. For mostly static slides, 30 fps is a practical starting point. |
| Video codec | H.264 | YouTube also lists H.265 (HEVC) and AV1 as supported live codecs. Use a codec your encoder supports reliably. |
| Rate control | CBR | Keep the output stable for a continuous broadcast. |
| Video bitrate | 14 Mbps for H.264 at 1080p30 | For H.264 at 1080p60, YouTube recommends 17 Mbps. Its H.264 recommendation for 720p30 and 720p60 is 8 Mbps. These are live-ingest targets, not upload-video encoding targets. |
| Keyframe interval | 2 seconds | YouTube recommends 2 seconds and says not to exceed 4 seconds. |
| Audio codec and format | AAC stereo, 128 Kbps, 44.1 kHz | YouTube also supports MP3 audio. For 5.1 audio over RTMP/RTMPS, AAC is supported; YouTube lists 48 kHz and 384 Kbps for 5.1 recommendations. |
| Ingest protocol | RTMPS | YouTube recommends RTMPS, the secure version of RTMP. |
| Picture format | Progressive scan, square pixels | For SDR, use Rec. 709 and 8-bit depth. YouTube’s HDR guidance specifies H.265 and 10-bit depth, and says AV1 is not supported for HDR. |
| Advanced H.264 options | Two B-frames, one reference frame, CABAC | Use these recommended options when they are available in your encoder. |
These recommendations come from YouTube’s live encoder settings and bitrate guidance. Choose a stable setting over the highest setting your hardware can briefly reach: a 24/7 channel needs consistent output, not just a strong short test.
Choose 30 or 60 fps based on the lesson
Use 1080p30 for mostly static teaching visuals
Slides, diagrams, text, and a stationary camera usually do not need 60 frames per second. YouTube’s recommended H.264 ingest bitrate for 1080p30 is 14 Mbps. This is the practical baseline when your network can sustain it with headroom.

Use 1080p60 when motion benefits
Fast demonstrations, moving diagrams, or other content where smoother movement matters may benefit from 60 fps. YouTube recommends 17 Mbps for H.264 at 1080p60. Do not select it solely because the number is higher: frame rate, content, encoder capacity, and sustained upload reliability all matter.
Step down if your connection is less reliable
If the connection cannot reliably maintain the 1080p target, consider 720p. YouTube recommends 8 Mbps for H.264 at both 720p30 and 720p60. It also publishes recommendations for H.265 and AV1; check the current encoder settings page for the applicable codec and resolution rather than transferring H.264 values to another codec.

Configure the stream in YouTube and your encoder
- Confirm your channel can go live. YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility guidance says the channel must be verified, have no live-streaming restrictions during the previous 90 days, and the streamer must be at least 16. Check eligibility in YouTube Studio before building an unattended schedule.
- Create or open a live stream in Live Control Room. YouTube recommends letting it detect resolution and frame rate by default. A custom stream key can enable manual resolution settings. The precise labels may change, so follow the current controls in Studio.
- Copy the server URL and stream key into your encoder. Use RTMPS and the profile above. Treat the stream key like a password: anyone with it may be able to broadcast to your stream. Do not publish it or place it in a public screenshot.
- Set the encoder output. Choose H.264, CBR, the target bitrate for the chosen resolution and frame rate, a 2-second keyframe interval, and AAC stereo audio at 128 Kbps and 44.1 kHz. Set progressive scan and square pixels; for SDR use Rec. 709 and 8-bit depth.
- Choose latency for the viewing experience. Normal latency is appropriate when viewers do not need real-time interaction. YouTube notes that lower latency can increase buffering and matters less when the streamer is not interacting with viewers.
- Test before relying on continuous operation. Run an upload-speed test, then test with representative audio and movement. Monitor YouTube’s stream health and messages during broadcast. YouTube’s instruction is: “Make sure to test before you start your live stream.” See encoder setup guidance and live stream settings.
Plan continuity separately from archives and DVR
A continuous broadcast and a complete replay archive are different operational goals. YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. Its digital-events guidance advises recording streams longer than 12 hours for manual upload. YouTube also warns that DVR, which lets viewers pause, rewind, and resume, may be limited or unavailable on streams longer than 12 hours.
If a separate archive for each session matters, plan shorter recurring sessions and verify that a session ends and its archive is available as intended. For one uninterrupted long broadcast, record the program separately and make an archive plan. The official guidance does not establish a universal restart cadence or guarantee that a 24/7 broadcast will produce a complete automatic archive.

Originality and eligible watch hours
Do not assume that a looping channel qualifies for monetization simply because people watch it live. YouTube’s qualified watch-hours explainer, published 12 August 2026, says public long-form videos and archived livestreams can be eligible watch-hour sources, while livestreams that are not archived are excluded. YouTube’s channel monetization policies describe repetitive or mass-produced material as “inauthentic content” and apply that policy to live streams. This is a policy risk, not a prediction about an individual channel’s review. Build an original educational program and confirm current eligibility and archive status in Studio.
Metadata that helps viewers
Use a clear, accurate title and description that explain the subject and format. YouTube says tags mainly help when content is commonly misspelled and otherwise play a minimal role in discovery; they cannot compensate for unclear or misleading presentation.

Keep a 24/7 YouTube stream running
StreamNeo: cloud playout
StreamNeo is a YouTube-only cloud service for keeping uploaded videos live 24/7. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live; its cloud loops the uploaded video, so your computer and home connection do not have to stay on. It is #1 among the options here because it runs continuously from the cloud, streams the upload as made up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, and includes a free first day.
Each slot includes one always-on stream, 10 GB of storage per slot pooled across active slots, 24/7 looping and playlists, automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream, and StreamNeo team support. The same features apply on every plan; only the billing length changes. It plays uploaded video, not a live camera feed, and streams to YouTube only.
DIY with an encoder
For a self-managed broadcast, use an encoder and a computer or other playout system that can stay running, with a reliable upload connection. Configure the encoder using the settings above, enter the YouTube server URL and stream key, test with representative content, and monitor stream health. You remain responsible for maintaining the machine, connection, and recovery process if the encoder or YouTube ingest disconnects.
Or let it run in the cloud
Upload a recording or playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. Nothing has to stay powered on at home; uploaded video can stream at any quality up to 4K 60fps for one flat price per slot; StreamNeo automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream; and the first day is free with no card required. Monthly billing is $9.99 per month. Start your free first day with StreamNeo.
