The best service depends on whether you want a scheduled playlist event or a continuous YouTube channel that loops prerecorded videos. 2. Castr: scheduled programming and live inserts
Castr’s TV playout documentation describes scheduling uploaded videos, recordings, and live streams into a continuous channel. It offers schedule and loop modes, and allows live streams to be inserted into the timetable. Castr says the playout runs in its browser dashboard without a playout server or a machine that must remain on. Its output and playlist limits vary by plan. The product pages describe looping on Premium and higher, 1080p at 25–60 fps on Ultra and Events, and 720p at 30 fps on other plans; a separate prerecorded-live page lists playlist limits of 2 videos on Starter and Standard, 10 on Premium, and 15 on Ultra. 3. playout.video: documented continuous cloud streaming
playout.video’s help page describes creating a continuous 24/7 cloud live stream for YouTube, Twitch, or another platform without dedicated hardware, software downloads, or a computer running OBS continuously. That establishes it as a candidate for continuous cloud playout, but not a basis for claiming it is cheaper, more reliable, or more capable than another service. 4. Restream: scheduled playlist events, not a proven always-on station
Restream’s help documentation describes creating and scheduling a stream from a video playlist, with playlists up to 24 hours long. Its YouTube live-event instructions list Studio, RTMP, Video File, and Playlist as source choices. Check continuity before anything else
- For an indefinite channel, look for explicit loop or continuous-stream documentation, not just a scheduler.
- For a finite program, check whether the playlist duration fits the event and whether the service can schedule a start time.
- If you need live inserts, confirm that the service can hand off from prerecorded content to a live feed and resume the schedule.
Compare the operational details
- Schedule control: Find out whether you can repeat items, plan dates and times, and edit the rundown while it is running. Castr documents scheduled items and on-the-fly schedule changes, but verify implementation and tier.
- Output path: Establish whether the provider sends the stream to YouTube itself or expects you to operate an encoder and YouTube Live Control Room.
- Limits: Compare file count, loop availability, resolution, frame rate, destinations, and storage against your needs. Do not assume a limit documented for one plan applies to all plans.
- Continuity evidence: Cloud hosting removes the need for a local computer to stay on, but that alone does not prove a provider’s uptime. The cited documentation does not provide an independent reliability comparison.
YouTube and content checks before going live
A playout service changes how prerecorded material reaches YouTube; it does not grant rights to the material or guarantee that a channel meets YouTube’s policies. Before scheduling or looping videos, make sure you have the necessary rights to the video, music, and other included material. Review YouTube’s live-stream and monetization requirements for your channel and content, especially when using repeated or reused material. A playlist that technically streams is not, by itself, evidence of permission or eligibility.
