But the available evidence does not show what share of ambience viewers subscribe, or that running a stream continuously makes viewers more likely to subscribe. A prominent channel proves that subscriptions can happen; it is not a typical result to expect.
What the evidence can—and cannot—tell you
YouTube Analytics can show how much of your channel’s watch time comes from subscribers and how much comes from viewers who are not subscribed. It also reports audience categories, devices, and the formats viewers watch. Those measures can help you understand your own channel, but they do not supply a general subscription benchmark for 24/7 ambience streams.
A 2025 paper by Mojtaba Mozhganfar and coauthors, YTLive: A Dataset of Real-World YouTube Live Streaming Sessions, describes more than 507,000 records from 12,156 livestreams. Researchers gathered the data through the YouTube Researcher Program in May and June 2024 and tracked concurrent viewers at five-minute intervals. The paper examines viewer counts and viewing patterns, not what proportion of viewers subscribed. Its finding that viewer counts were higher and more stable on weekends, especially in afternoon hours, is about concurrent viewers in that dataset—not subscriptions or ambience channels specifically.
So a stream with many viewers, long viewing sessions, or substantial watch time does not necessarily have a high subscription rate. Those are different measures. The reviewed evidence does not establish a reliable category-wide subscription percentage or show that 24/7 operation itself increases subscriptions.

Why some people may return or subscribe
Ambience can serve as a recurring background for sleep, study, relaxation, or a familiar routine. Study-oriented livestream research offers a possible explanation for why some viewers value returning to a live setting: a 2021 study of “study with me” streams on Bilibili analyzed 800 livestreams, examined 20 in depth, and interviewed 12 streamers and 10 viewers. It describes companionship, supervision, check-ins, and progress reports as elements of engagement in that setting.
That study is useful context, not a forecast for YouTube ambience. Bilibili study streams are not interchangeable with every music, rain, game-world, or other ambience channel, and qualitative findings do not establish how often those experiences lead to subscriptions.

What a well-known channel proves
Lofi Girl is an illustrative example of a 24/7 lofi channel that developed an established audience and later brand collaborations and related products. It shows that an always-on ambience concept can become a recognizable channel and brand. It does not show how likely an ordinary viewer is to subscribe, or what results a new channel should expect. Because the available reference is secondary, it is not a sound basis for precise current audience counts or general performance claims.
How to assess your own channel
Use your channel’s Analytics rather than comparing your results with a single prominent example. In YouTube Studio, open Analytics and review the Audience tab for a clearly defined date range. Look at these measures together:

- Subscriber versus non-subscriber watch time: YouTube’s Audience analytics help says this report shows what percentage of watch time comes from subscribers and viewers who are not subscribed. It describes watch time, not the percentage of viewers who subscribed.
- New, casual, and regular viewers: These categories help distinguish people discovering the channel from those who return. YouTube defines regular viewers as people who watched at least once per month for more than six months in the past year.
- Content format: Channel-level Analytics can include Shorts, videos, and live content. If your channel publishes several formats, its audience figures may combine them; do not assume a channel-level result is specific to the 24/7 stream.
- Device type: The device breakdown can show whether your audience is watching on televisions, phones, computers, or other supported device categories. Treat this as context for how people use the channel, not as evidence of subscription intent.
Keep the date range consistent when comparing periods, and separate livestream results from other formats where Analytics allows. A change in watch time or concurrent viewers is not itself a change in subscription conversion; inspect subscriber measures directly and interpret them within the same period and content mix.
