For Hindi words that must remain visible throughout a looping video, burn them into the picture before streaming; an SRT file supplied to FFmpeg is not, by itself, a verified way to send selectable live captions to YouTube over RTMPS. For a continuous stream, get the RTMPS URL and stream key from YouTube Live Control Room, encode to YouTube’s current settings, and supervise the FFmpeg process and stream health. The settings and commands below are templates: check your installed FFmpeg build and test with an unlisted stream before relying on them.

Choose how Hindi subtitles should reach viewers

“Subtitles” can mean three different things in a live workflow. Decide which result you need before configuring FFmpeg:

Method What viewers get What to know
Burn subtitles into the video Hindi text is part of the picture and cannot be switched off. A practical choice for a repeating prerecorded video when the text must always appear. Check Devanagari shaping, font rendering, line breaks and timing in the actual preview.
Send live closed captions A viewer-selectable caption track, when the supported caption workflow is configured. YouTube documents embedded EIA-608/CEA-708 captions and software that sends captions via HTTP POST. Its documentation does not establish that attaching an SRT file to an FFmpeg RTMPS command creates selectable live captions.
Mux a timed subtitle track A separate subtitle stream in a media delivery format that supports it. FFmpeg supports formats such as SRT and WebVTT, and can mux WebVTT in HLS. That capability does not make an HLS subtitle track interchangeable with YouTube’s RTMPS live-caption route.

If accessibility or viewer-controlled captions are essential, use a YouTube-documented caption delivery path and verify the caption track, language and playback with a viewer account before going live. YouTube’s guidance for the documented 608/708 mode says it supports multiple languages as a standard, but YouTube currently supports one caption track in that mode.

Prepare the source and Hindi text

Check the video and audio

  • Make sure the source has the video and audio streams you intend to publish. If it has no audio, do not use an audio mapping or audio encoder option that assumes one exists.
  • For a playlist of prerecorded segments, verify that the playlist itself repeats as intended and that audio remains present and continuous at transitions. Loop behavior can vary by input and installed FFmpeg build; do not assume one loop option behaves identically for every container.
  • If you are burning subtitles, confirm that your FFmpeg build has the subtitle rendering filter and the host has a suitable font and rendering stack. Inspect Hindi conjuncts, vowel marks, line breaks, contrast and subtitle timing at full playback size.

Burn subtitles before the live encode

A typical FFmpeg subtitle-filter pattern is -vf "subtitles=hindi.srt:charenc=UTF-8". It is illustrative, not a tested command for every operating system or FFmpeg build. Filter availability, font selection, path escaping and Devanagari shaping depend on the environment. The filter renders the text into video frames; it does not create a viewer-toggleable caption track.

Elebase USB to USB C Adapter for iPhone 18 Pro Max,USBC Car Charger Adapter
  • Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
  • Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
  • Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
  • Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.

For a stream that repeats the same programme, a reliable workflow is to render a subtitle-burned video as a prepared source, inspect the full duration, and then loop that rendered source. If instead you apply an SRT filter only while streaming a looping input, do not assume subtitle timestamps restart with each video loop. Test the boundary and the entire repeat cycle; prepare a correctly timed rendered source if subtitles disappear or drift after the first pass.

Get YouTube’s ingest settings

  1. Open YouTube Live Control Room and create or select the live stream you plan to use.
  2. Copy the stream key and the ingest URL shown for that stream. YouTube may show the ordinary RTMP URL by default; explicitly reveal or select the RTMPS endpoint. YouTube recommends RTMPS, which is RTMP over a secure SSL connection.
  3. Treat the key like a password. Keep it out of public scripts, screenshots, logs and shared configuration files. If it is exposed, replace it in Live Control Room and update the encoder configuration.
  4. Keep the stream’s intended resolution and frame rate in mind when selecting encoder settings. YouTube’s encoder guide says it can automatically detect resolution and frame rate by default, but the video you actually send still needs a deliberate, compatible encoding configuration.

Choose a codec, bitrate and keyframe interval

YouTube’s current RTMP/RTMPS guidance lists H.264, HEVC and AV1 video, AAC or MP3 audio, constant bitrate (CBR), and frame rates up to 60 fps. Its recommended keyframe interval is two seconds and must not exceed four seconds. Choose settings according to the codec, resolution and frame rate; do not copy a bitrate from a different combination.

H.264 example from YouTube’s guidance Minimum bitrate Recommended bitrate
720p at 30 fps 3 Mbps 8 Mbps
1080p at 30 fps 5 Mbps 14 Mbps

These are YouTube Help recommendations verified in 2026, not guarantees of picture quality or universal requirements. For other resolutions, frame rates or codecs, check YouTube’s current encoder matrix in Live Control Room or its encoder settings guidance rather than extrapolating these two rows.

Plan upload capacity

YouTube recommends capacity of primary bitrate plus backup bitrate plus 20% headroom. For example, if you configure a 14 Mbps primary and a 14 Mbps backup, the planning figure is 33.6 Mbps of upload capacity (14 + 14, then 20%); a backup encoder is not created merely by reserving bandwidth. Use a reliable connection and leave room for normal network variation.

Example FFmpeg streaming template

This is a starting template for a prepared, subtitle-burned MP4 with one video and one audio stream, sent as H.264/AAC at 1080p30. It is not a tested universal 24/7 command. Replace the endpoint and key with the exact values from Live Control Room, confirm your local FFmpeg supports the chosen encoder, and adapt mappings if the input differs.

ffmpeg -re -stream_loop -1 -i rendered-hindi.mp4
  -map 0:v:0 -map 0:a:0
  -c:v libx264 -preset veryfast -pix_fmt yuv420p
  -r 30 -b:v 14M -minrate 14M -maxrate 14M -bufsize 28M
  -g 60 -keyint_min 60 -sc_threshold 0
  -c:a aac -b:a 128k -ar 44100
  -f flv "rtmps://YOUR-RTMPS-ENDPOINT/YOUR-STREAM-KEY"
  • -re reads the file at approximately real-time speed rather than sending it as fast as storage allows.
  • -stream_loop -1 requests an indefinite input loop. Verify loop behavior with your FFmpeg build and file; do not assume every source or playlist loops cleanly.
  • -map explicitly selects the video and audio streams. If the audio stream is absent, remove or change its map and audio options; if the intended streams have different indices, select those instead.
  • -c:v libx264 selects the H.264 encoder, while the bitrate options target a roughly constant 14 Mbps video rate. Actual rate behavior depends on the encoder and input.
  • -g 60 and -keyint_min 60 request a 60-frame GOP, which is two seconds at 30 fps. If you change frame rate, recalculate the frame count for a two-second interval; do not exceed four seconds.
  • -c:a aac selects AAC audio. The sample audio bitrate and sample rate are configuration choices, not a guarantee that every source or stream requires those exact values.
  • The final RTMPS URL is a placeholder shape only. Use the exact RTMPS endpoint and key issued by YouTube; do not paste a real key into a public example.

If you need to burn the text during encoding rather than render it beforehand, the subtitle filter must be applied to the video before encoding. A filter pattern is -vf "subtitles=hindi.srt:charenc=UTF-8"; integrate it into the command only after confirming the filter and fonts work locally. For repeated content, verify that subtitle timing repeats with the video. Pre-rendering makes that check easier and avoids treating an SRT input as live caption delivery.

Test before making the stream public

  1. Start with an unlisted or test stream and confirm the preview appears in Live Control Room.
  2. Check that the picture has the intended resolution and frame rate, audio is audible and continuous, and no unwanted streams were mapped.
  3. Review Hindi text at normal viewer size, including conjuncts, punctuation, line breaks and the point where the video and subtitles loop.
  4. Watch the stream from a viewer account and check whether the result is burned-in text or a selectable caption track, as intended.
  5. Check YouTube’s stream-health indicators and warnings while the test runs. YouTube recommends test streams, preview checks, reliable upload capacity and ongoing monitoring.
  6. Make a local recording if retaining a complete copy matters. YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived; its guidance does not promise a complete archive for a longer continuous session.

Keep FFmpeg and the stream running

A command that loops a file is not a complete reliability plan. Run FFmpeg under an operating-system service or process supervisor configured to restart the process after failure and alert someone when it stops. Monitor both the host and YouTube’s stream health: a live process does not prove that YouTube is receiving healthy video.

FFmpeg’s FIFO muxer has an attempt_recovery option that can try to recover network output after failures. Its drop_pkts_on_overflow option can allow encoding to continue when the queue fills, but it does so by dropping packets and can create gaps. Use it only if you accept missing content. Protocol options such as reconnect, reconnect_at_eof and reconnect_on_network_error apply to supported inputs; they do not automatically restart the entire YouTube publishing process.

Check the installed binary before relying on a version-sensitive option: ffmpeg -version reports the build, and ffmpeg -filters lets you check whether a filter is available. FFmpeg documentation can describe a newer revision than the binary installed on your host.

Troubleshooting common failures

Symptom Likely cause What to check or change
No picture in YouTube preview Wrong endpoint or key, incompatible output, or a failed publishing process. Copy the RTMPS URL and key again from the selected stream in Live Control Room; check the FFmpeg log and YouTube stream-health status. Keep the key private.
Stream health reports instability or dropped frames Insufficient upload capacity, network variation, or encoder overload. Compare actual upload capacity with primary bitrate plus backup bitrate plus 20% headroom. Reduce the configured load if needed, use a more reliable connection, and check host resource use.
Hindi glyphs are missing, joined incorrectly or displayed as boxes Missing/inappropriate font or rendering support, or filter/build differences. Check the subtitle filter and font stack on the host. Inspect the rendered output, including Devanagari conjuncts and vowel marks, before the live test.
Hindi text vanishes or becomes mistimed after the video loops The subtitle timestamps did not restart in sync with the repeated source. Test the entire repeat boundary. Render the subtitles into a prepared video with matching timing rather than assuming a separate timed file loops in lockstep.
No audio or wrong audio The mapped stream is absent or not the intended audio stream. Inspect the input’s streams and adjust explicit -map selections. Remove audio encoding options only if you truly intend to stream without audio.
FFmpeg stops after a disconnect An output failure ended the process; input reconnect options do not restart publishing. Use a process supervisor with restart and alerting. Consider FIFO recovery where appropriate, and verify recovery through a controlled test.
The stream runs longer than YouTube’s automatic archive window The continuous event exceeded 12 hours. Record locally if a full archive matters. Decide how to manage event continuity and recording segments; the YouTube guidance cited here does not prescribe one ideal 24/7 segmentation strategy.
