For a finished podcast episode that simply needs to become available at a chosen time, upload it to YouTube Studio and schedule its publication. If you want viewers to gather for a live-style event, schedule a YouTube live stream instead—but an encoder must send the episode video and audio; scheduling the event alone does not start a selected file.
Choose the YouTube experience you want
| Option | What happens at the chosen time | What you need |
|---|---|---|
| Scheduled video | The uploaded episode becomes public. | Upload the video and schedule publication in YouTube Studio. YouTube’s scheduled publishing instructions |
| Premiere | An uploaded video is presented as a shared viewing event, where the option is available. | Choose Premiere options in Studio. This is not an encoder-driven live stream. |
| Scheduled live stream | The live event is scheduled, but the encoder must provide the episode feed. | YouTube Live Control Room and an encoder configured with the stream URL and key. YouTube’s encoder setup guide |
Use scheduled video publication unless the live watch page and live-event experience are important to your audience. A Premiere may suit a shared viewing experience without sending a live feed. Choose a scheduled live stream when you need an actual stream event and can arrange for an encoder or cloud service to deliver the episode.
Schedule a finished episode as a video
- Upload the finished episode in YouTube Studio.
- Complete its title, description, thumbnail, and audience settings.
- In the visibility and scheduling controls, choose the publication date, time, and time zone, then schedule the video. YouTube describes this as making a private video public at the time you select. See Schedule video publish time.
- If you want viewers to watch together, check the current Premiere options in Studio and configure that presentation separately.
Check the time zone before saving. YouTube says the public watch-page date is based on Pacific Time, so it can differ from the date Studio shows to someone scheduling from a time zone ahead of it.
Schedule a live stream that plays the episode
In this setup YouTube creates the scheduled event and watch page; a separate encoder sends the episode as the stream. An event scheduled in Studio does not, by itself, select or launch a media file.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
- Schedule the event. In YouTube Studio, open Live Control Room, select Manage, and schedule a stream. You can reuse previous stream settings or create a new one. Set the event’s visibility and metadata, then share its watch page. Viewers may opt into a reminder. See Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder.
- Configure the encoder. Add YouTube’s stream URL and stream key to the encoder or production software. Treat the key like a password: do not publish it or show it in screenshots.
- Set up episode playback. Configure the encoder or production setup to play the finished episode at the intended time and keep sending its video and audio output. Verify that playback will not pause, switch to another source, or end before the episode finishes.
- Preview before the event. Check the incoming picture and sound in Live Control Room and inspect stream health. YouTube recommends setting up the encoder ahead of time, previewing, and monitoring audio and video quality throughout the stream. See Streaming tips.
- End the stream deliberately. Stop the encoder and end the event in Live Control Room when the episode is over, unless your setup is intended to continue with other programming.
What auto-start does—and does not do
YouTube’s auto-start and auto-stop settings let an encoder control when a stream starts or stops. They do not mean that scheduling an event automatically starts playback of a chosen episode file. The encoder or production setup still has to supply that feed. See Manage live stream settings.
Prepare the encoder and episode
- Check channel access: confirm live streaming is enabled and that the event’s visibility is right for its intended audience.
- Allow setup time: YouTube recommends setting up an encoder at least 2 hours in advance and starting it at least 15 minutes before the scheduled event so you can inspect the preview. These are YouTube recommendations, not guarantees of a trouble-free stream. See Streaming tips.
- Test the actual episode: play the file through the same encoder path you plan to use. Check audio levels, picture, overlays, and the transition into and out of the episode.
- Check upload capacity and encoder settings: use an upload connection that can sustain the chosen stream quality. YouTube recommends RTMPS for live ingestion and provides supported encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions in its live encoder settings guide. Test with representative audio and movement rather than relying on a still screen.
- Confirm timing and controls: verify the event date, time zone, the encoder’s start behavior, and whether the stream should stop automatically. Test that the episode begins at the intended time.
- Keep a local recording: YouTube can automatically archive streams shorter than 12 hours, but an archive is not a substitute for a backup. Streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured. See Archive live streams.
Troubleshoot common scheduling and playback problems
| Symptom | Likely cause | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| The episode did not appear at the scheduled time. | The video was scheduled as a live event rather than as a normal video, or its publication settings were not saved as intended. | In Studio, confirm whether you scheduled a video publication or a live event. A scheduled event needs an encoder feed; scheduled video publication makes the uploaded video public. Recheck date, time, and time zone. |
| The live watch page exists, but viewers see no episode. | The event was scheduled, but the encoder is not sending media, or it is sending a different source. | Check that the encoder is connected with the correct stream URL and key, that the episode file is playing, and that the preview shows the intended feed. |
| The stream starts, but the episode begins late or at the wrong time. | The encoder’s start or playback behavior does not match the event schedule, or the time zone was misread. | Verify the event time zone, encoder start controls, and the playback schedule. Test the sequence in advance; auto-start controls stream start, not which file plays. |
| Viewers report buffering or poor picture and sound. | The outgoing quality may exceed the available upload connection, or encoder settings and source playback may be unsuitable. | Review stream health, connection capacity, and YouTube’s encoder settings guidance. Test using the actual episode’s audio and motion. |
| The archive is missing or incomplete. | Automatic archiving is not assured for streams over 12 hours, and an archive should not be treated as the only copy. | Keep a local recording. Check YouTube’s current archive guidance. |
Or let it run in the cloud
