1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesTo switch podcast episodes automatically in OBS, add the local files to one VLC Video Source playlist. OBS will play them in sequence in the same scene; you only need scene automation if each episode should use a different scene or layout. VLC must be installed, and its 32-bit or 64-bit architecture must match OBS.
Choose the right setup for your episodes
| What you need | Use | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Episodes play in order with the same layout and overlays | One VLC Video Source playlist | Advances from one playlist item to the next without requiring a scene change. |
| Each episode needs its own scene, branding, or layout | Separate episode scenes plus Advanced Scene Switcher | Uses a media condition and scene-switch action to change scenes automatically. |
| One local video in a scene | OBS Media Source | Plays a single file; OBS’s standard Media Source does not provide the VLC playlist behavior. |
OBS distinguishes VLC Video from its standard Media Source: VLC Video can hold a playlist, while Media Source is for a single media item. See the OBS Media Sources guide.
Set up a playlist for automatic episode playback
- Prepare the episode files. Keep the video files on the computer running OBS. OBS’s Media Sources documentation lists MP4, TS, MOV, FLV, MKV, AVI, GIF, and WebM as supported video formats. This workflow uses local files; it does not fetch episodes from YouTube URLs.
- Install VLC if needed. The VLC Video Source will not appear unless VLC is installed. Match the architecture: 64-bit OBS requires 64-bit VLC. If you install VLC while OBS is open, close and reopen OBS before looking for the source again.
- Add the source. In the scene where the podcast should play, add a VLC Video Source. Add the episode files to its playlist in the order you want them to play.
- Set playback order. Turn shuffle off for a predictable episode sequence. Choose whether the playlist should loop, depending on whether you want it to start over after its final item.
- Fit the video to your layout. Arrange and size the source alongside your existing overlays and other scene elements. OBS treats sources as components within scenes; its Sources Guide explains the relationship between sources and scenes.
- Preview the sequence. Check that the first file plays, advances to the next episode, and behaves as expected at the end of the playlist. Test the whole transition before relying on it during a live broadcast.
For one continuous scene, playback moving from one VLC playlist item to the next is enough; a scene transition is unnecessary.
Switch scenes when an episode changes
If episodes need different scenes or branding, use a separate scene for each episode and automate the scene change with Advanced Scene Switcher. The plugin uses conditions and actions; its listing describes macros as conditions under which actions are performed.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
- Create the episode scenes. In OBS, make a scene for each episode’s layout and add the appropriate media and overlays. Organize the scenes so you can identify which one belongs to each playlist item.
- Install Advanced Scene Switcher. It is a separate OBS plugin. The OBS Forums listing accessed October 3, 2026, reports version 1.36.1 and a minimum OBS Studio version of 31.1.1. Plugin versions and requirements can change; check the current plugin listing before installing.
- Make a media condition and scene-switch action. In the plugin, configure a media condition for the relevant source, then add an action to switch to the next episode’s scene.
- Choose the correct end event. Decide whether the transition should happen when the current media item ends or only when the entire VLC playlist ends. Those are distinct behaviors in the plugin’s update history; consult the Advanced Scene Switcher updates and select the condition that matches your sequence.
- Test every transition. Preview the final moments of an episode and confirm OBS switches to the intended scene. The documentation describes configuration capabilities, not a guarantee against playback or plugin problems.
For an example of playlist sequencing discussion, see the OBS forum thread on switching scenes automatically.
What does not happen automatically
- A playlist ending does not, by itself, establish that the YouTube livestream will end. The playback and scene-automation documentation covers media progression and scene switching, not automatic termination of a YouTube broadcast.
- These steps concern files available to OBS, not pulling or rebroadcasting episodes from YouTube URLs.
- YouTube account eligibility, stream scheduling, and platform-policy requirements are outside the OBS workflow described here. Check current YouTube documentation for those requirements before going live.
Troubleshoot common problems
| Symptom | Likely cause | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| VLC Video Source is missing | VLC is not installed, or its architecture does not match OBS. | Install VLC and ensure 64-bit OBS is paired with 64-bit VLC; then reopen OBS. |
| Episodes play in an unexpected order | Playlist order or shuffle setting is not what you intended. | Review the VLC playlist sequence and turn shuffle off for fixed ordering. |
| The scene changes at the wrong time | The automation responds to an individual media item ending when you intended the playlist end, or vice versa. | Recheck the Advanced Scene Switcher media condition and select the matching end event. |
| The video plays but the scene does not change | The plugin’s media condition or scene-switch action may not match the source or target scene. | Verify the selected source, condition, action, and destination scene, then preview the transition again. |
