Minecraft’s Vibrant Visuals is an official graphics mode for compatible Bedrock Edition devices. It adds effects such as directional lighting, moving shadows, reflective water, fog, and emissive textures without changing gameplay. Availability depends on your edition and hardware; Java Edition does not yet have a released version.
What Vibrant Visuals changes
Vibrant Visuals changes how Minecraft renders the world, not how the world works. Its visual effects include directional lighting, moving shadows, reflective water, volumetric fog, atmospheric effects, and emissive textures. The rendering mode is local to each player, so two people in the same world can see different graphics.
Mojang described its aim as “a new look that still stays true to our creative principles.” Game Art Director Jasper Boerstra called water one of his favorite improvements and said sculk is “more emissive, more immersive” in the updated rendering. Minecraft’s feature announcement includes those comments and examples.
Which editions and devices support it?
Vibrant Visuals is currently available for compatible devices running Bedrock Edition. Minecraft lists Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Android, iOS, and PC among supported platform families. A platform being listed does not guarantee that every device in that family meets the requirements.

Does it work on Java Edition?
No released Java Edition version is announced. Minecraft’s current updates timeline says the team is working to bring Vibrant Visuals to Java, but gives no release date. Mojang’s February 2026 Java update described Vulkan as a step toward Vibrant Visuals, and Java snapshot notes reported Vulkan testing in April 2026; Vulkan testing is not the same as Vibrant Visuals being available in Java. See the updates timeline, February 2026 Java update, and April 2026 snapshot notes.

How to turn on Vibrant Visuals
- Update Minecraft and launch a compatible Bedrock Edition installation.
- Open Settings → Video → Graphics Mode.
- Select Vibrant Visuals. Some gaming platforms may enable it by default.
You can also choose a graphics mode from the Create New World or Edit World screens. Within Vibrant Visuals, choose Favor Visuals or Favor Performance, then adjust available settings under Vibrant Visuals Options. Menu availability depends on device compatibility. Minecraft’s FAQ and Microsoft Learn rendering guide describe setup.
Gameplay, multiplayer, and performance
The mode is cosmetic: it does not alter mob behavior, crop growth, daylight mechanics, or other gameplay rules. It runs locally, so Realm players can play together while using different graphics modes. Minecraft’s launch announcement quoted Boerstra describing it as backwards compatible with old worlds and playable alongside friends who have not activated it: Chase the Skies feature announcement.

Split-screen is different
Vibrant Visuals does not support split-screen. When multiple players join locally, Minecraft switches to Fancy or Simple rendering.
What to expect from performance
Minecraft warns of possible performance degradation on Xbox One, Xbox One S, PlayStation 4, and some Android devices. It does not publish a general frame-rate figure or universal benchmark, so results cannot be predicted from the preset names alone. If smoothness matters more than the visual effects, try Favor Performance; if the mode performs poorly, switch back to another graphics mode. The warnings are in the current FAQ and June 17, 2025 launch article.

Marketplace content and resource packs
Compatibility has evolved since launch. Minecraft’s June 17, 2025 launch article said Marketplace add-ons, skins, and persona items worked, while worlds and texture packs were not compatible at that time. The current FAQ now describes select Marketplace content as featuring Vibrant Visuals. For a particular world or pack, check its current compatibility label and requirements rather than assuming all content works.
For creators and technical users, Microsoft Learn documents the Bedrock PBR resource-pack path: a pack needs the pbr capability. RTX packs that use raytracing may work with the pipeline, but Vibrant Visuals’ new lighting capabilities are not backwards-compatible with the RTX pipeline. Consult the Microsoft Learn Vibrant Visuals guide for technical details.

Why is Vibrant Visuals missing from settings?
Minecraft’s published guidance establishes edition and hardware requirements, but does not provide a complete diagnostic procedure for every device. Check the likely eligibility issues first:
- Edition: Vibrant Visuals is currently for compatible Bedrock Edition devices, not a released Java Edition feature.
- Hardware: Confirm your Android GPU or iOS chip meets the listed threshold; on PC, Minecraft must run on DX12.
- Platform family: A supported console or phone category does not mean every model qualifies.
- Local multiplayer: Split-screen switches rendering to Fancy or Simple, so Vibrant Visuals will not remain active in that situation.
If those conditions appear to be met and the option is still absent, Minecraft’s FAQ is the appropriate place to check current device-specific guidance: Vibrant Visuals: Enable Enhanced Minecraft Graphics.
Should you use it?
Vibrant Visuals is a choice between a richer rendering style and the demands that style may place on your device. First confirm Bedrock and hardware eligibility. Then choose Favor Visuals or Favor Performance based on your preference, and consider whether you play split-screen or rely on particular Marketplace content. Since Minecraft does not publish universal performance benchmarks, your device’s actual experience is the useful test.
