The Long Drive is an open-ended Windows road-trip game set in an almost infinite, randomly generated desert. Its focus is driving and exploration, with light vehicle maintenance and survival systems rather than a conventional campaign built around races or missions. Steam lists it as an Early Access game developed and published by Genesz.
What kind of game is The Long Drive?
The central appeal is an unhurried journey through a procedurally generated desert: drive, explore, and decide how to approach the trip. Car upkeep and survival mechanics add practical concerns, but the Steam description emphasizes freedom and immersion rather than a sequence of required objectives. The listing identifies the game as single-player and also advertises Remote Play Together and Family Sharing.

Is The Long Drive still in Early Access?
Yes. Steam continues to label The Long Drive an Early Access game and notes that Early Access titles are incomplete and may change. The developer’s Early Access description on the store page has a stale-data notice, so any timelines in that description should not be treated as current plans.
What the dated updates establish
- The official Steam Community announcement feed lists “UPDATE V2024.11.26b_test,” dated November 26, 2024. The post describes additions and fixes and says the test branch can be accessed through Steam’s beta settings. A test-branch post does not establish that the same update is available on the default branch.
- On July 3, 2025, the game’s official announcement account answered a post titled “Game Abandoned?” with: “No.” This is a direct response, not a promised release date or update schedule.
The announcement dates and statement appear on the official Steam Community announcements page.
