A playlist can organize the resulting public archives for viewers, but YouTube’s documented workflow does not establish a feature that automatically rotates existing VODs into a live broadcast.
Set up the rerun stream in YouTube Studio
- Create or select a stream: Open YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room and create a live stream, or reuse settings from a previous one. Reusing settings copies the earlier stream’s metadata and settings, but you can edit them after creation. YouTube’s live stream settings guide describes this workflow.
- Set the stream type: Choose Gaming when the stream is gameplay. Review the copied title and description rather than assuming they still fit this session.
- Write the title and description: State that this is a rerun or replay if the broadcast contains previously recorded gameplay. Add the game and any useful episode, mode, or session distinction. Keep the description consistent with what viewers will actually see.
- Add the thumbnail: Use a consistent visual style for the series, with the game and the specific session easy to distinguish. Check the current Studio interface for thumbnail dimensions, file limits, and editing controls; the cited guidance does not establish those exact specifications for this workflow.
- Schedule or go live: Schedule the stream if you want a shareable watch page and the opportunity for viewers to set reminders. YouTube describes encoders as a common way to stream gameplay. See Create a live stream with an encoder for its documented setup guidance.
Choose a title and thumbnail viewers can read accurately
A practical title pattern
Use a repeatable structure such as [Game] replay: [mode or session] | [episode]. For example, “Hollow Knight replay: Steel Soul run | Episode 4” tells viewers both the game and that the gameplay is a replay. Treat this as editorial guidance, not a YouTube-mandated format. Avoid wording that implies you are playing live if the footage is prerecorded.
Make recurring thumbnails recognizable
Keep the series’ visual identity consistent, then vary a clear element—such as the episode number, mode, or session label—so viewers can tell reruns apart. Do not rely on a numeric size or file limit from an unrelated workflow: confirm the current requirements in Studio before publishing.
Use tags sparingly
YouTube says tags have a minimal role in discovery unless a video’s content is commonly misspelled. Put effort into accurate titles and descriptions instead of expecting tags alone to bring viewers to a rerun. YouTube Help: Manage live stream settings.

Schedule the stream and organize the archive
When scheduling helps
A scheduled stream gives you a watch page to share in advance and lets viewers set reminders. YouTube says streams shorter than 12 hours are automatically archived. If the recording should remain available, check its visibility after the stream; do not assume an archive is public just because it was created.
Put public archives into a viewer-facing playlist
After the stream, make the archive public if you want viewers to find it, then add it and any relevant highlight clips to the appropriate playlist. YouTube recommends using playlists to organize archives and highlights. A playlist serves as a way to organize and present videos; the cited guidance does not establish that it automatically feeds those videos into a new live broadcast. See Promote your live stream.

Set a cadence you can sustain
Choose a schedule that fits your available recordings and production effort, and tell viewers when it changes. YouTube’s live scheduling guidance recommends considering frequency, consistency, content volume, and production cost relative to return: Upload schedule tips – Live.
A playlist is not a live-stream rotation system
There are two different jobs here: a YouTube playlist helps viewers browse published videos, while a live broadcast sends a stream to YouTube. The YouTube guidance cited above supports playlist organization and live-stream setup, but does not document an automatic VOD-playlist rotation feature. If you need old gameplay to appear as a continuous live broadcast, verify the separate delivery method you plan to use rather than treating playlist creation as that method.
