Start with 720p (1280 × 720) at 30 fps, using H.264 if your PC can encode it smoothly and your connection can sustain the required upload. This is a practical starting point for a mostly static or slow-moving bhajan stream—not an official YouTube preset for devotional music or a guarantee for every low-end PC. If the computer struggles, test 480p30 instead. For a nonstop broadcast, a stable lower-resolution stream is better than a sharper one that stutters or drops.
Why 720p30 is a sensible first test
Bhajan streams often use a static image or slowly changing visuals, so 60 fps is unlikely to add much for this use case. That is a content-specific judgment, not a YouTube rule. Starting at 720p30 keeps the workload below 1080p or 60 fps while retaining more visual detail than 480p. Whether it works depends on your processor, graphics hardware or hardware encoder, streaming software, background workload, and sustained upload speed; without those details, no exact PC capability can be predicted.
YouTube transcodes live streams into multiple output formats for viewers on different devices and network conditions, so you do not need to send 1080p just to provide viewers with a watchable format. See YouTube’s live encoder settings.
Bitrate and encoder settings to use
YouTube’s current H.264 encoder guidance gives these video bitrate figures. They are recommendations for the incoming encoder stream, not a guarantee that a particular internet connection or PC will stay stable. The publication year of YouTube’s Help guidance is not stated; figures below were verified in 2026.

For AV1 or H.265 (HEVC), YouTube lists 2 Mbps minimum and 6 Mbps recommended for 720p30, and 0.3 Mbps minimum and 3 Mbps recommended for 480p30. Use these codecs only if your installed encoder supports them efficiently; a low-end PC may not have suitable hardware encoding. Check YouTube’s published bitrate table for the current figures.
- Rate control: CBR (constant bitrate).
- Keyframes: two-second interval recommended; do not exceed four seconds.
- Audio: AAC or MP3; for stereo, YouTube specifies 128 Kbps and 44.1 kHz.
These settings come from YouTube’s live encoder guidance. Select the closest supported values in your encoder.

Set up and test the stream before it runs nonstop
- Choose output: In your streaming encoder, set the output to 1280 × 720 at 30 fps. Select H.264 if your PC can encode it continuously without dropped frames.
- Set video encoding: Choose CBR and a two-second keyframe interval. YouTube’s recommended H.264 video bitrate for 720p30 is 8 Mbps, but use it only if your tested upload connection can sustain it.
- Set audio: Choose AAC if available, stereo at 128 Kbps and a 44.1 kHz sample rate.
- Check sustained upload capacity: Run an upload speed test, then test the stream itself. YouTube advises testing before going live and choosing a quality that gives a reliable stream. A speed-test result is not by itself proof that the connection will remain steady for a long broadcast.
- Use representative content: Test with the planned audio and movement, including transitions or animated visuals if you will use them. YouTube’s Help page says tests should include audio and movement similar to the intended stream.
- Watch stream health: During the test and broadcast, read the encoder and YouTube Live Control Room warnings. YouTube’s API documentation identifies low bitrate, frame-rate mismatch, missing audio, and insufficient incoming video as possible issues; insufficient video ingestion can cause buffering for viewers. When to drop to 480p30
Try 480p30 if the PC cannot encode 720p30 smoothly or the connection cannot reliably sustain the selected bitrate. YouTube’s H.264 recommendation at 480p30 is 4 Mbps, with a 0.4 Mbps minimum. The minimum is not a stability target: choose a bitrate the connection can actually maintain, then test again. Lower resolution reduces visual detail, but for a mostly static devotional stream it may be a reasonable trade-off for continuous playback.
There is no published YouTube threshold defining which hardware counts as a “low-end PC,” and no bhajan-specific resolution comparison establishes that one setting is best for all channels. The practical choice is the highest setting your own encoder and connection sustain in a representative test.

Troubleshooting common stream problems
