If your Streamlabs Talk Studio YouTube broadcast has no sound, first identify what viewers cannot hear: your voice, a guest, or audio from shared content. Then check that source’s Talk Studio control and permissions. These are separate audio paths, so a working microphone does not guarantee that a shared video’s sound is being captured.
First, identify which audio is missing
- Your voice is missing: Check browser microphone permission, Talk Studio’s selected input, and whether you are muted.
- A guest’s voice is missing: Make sure the guest is on the stream, not still in the queue.
- Shared video, tab, or computer audio is missing: Check the audio option for the screen-sharing method you chose and, on Mac, Chrome’s Screen Recording permission.
- Everything appears configured, but YouTube viewers hear silence: Confirm YouTube is configured and selected as a destination. If the audio is present in Talk Studio but absent from the broadcast, check current YouTube diagnostics; the Talk Studio guidance cited here does not specify YouTube Studio steps for this symptom.
Talk Studio is browser-based. Streamlabs’ Talk Studio getting-started guide lists Google Chrome or Safari among its requirements and describes its browser permissions and audio controls. The separate Streamlabs Desktop troubleshooting instructions below apply only if your workflow actually uses Desktop.
If viewers cannot hear your microphone
- Allow microphone access in the browser. When Talk Studio requests permission, grant it. If no permission prompt appears, use the lock icon beside the browser address bar to review the site’s permissions. Change the microphone permission if needed, then refresh the page.
- Select the intended input in Talk Studio. Click the arrow beside Mute and choose the microphone you intend to use. Check that the selected device is the one connected and working.
- Confirm you are not muted. Check the Talk Studio mute control before going live and during the broadcast. Selecting an input will not make your voice audible while you are muted.
- Check the device itself. Confirm the microphone is connected and enabled in your operating system, and that its hardware mute is off. If the selected input is unavailable or faulty after these checks, another working input may be needed; buying a microphone is not a guaranteed fix.
If a guest’s microphone is silent
- Find the guest in the Talk Studio queue.
- Move the guest to Show on stream.
- Ask the guest to check their own mute state and microphone permission if they are still inaudible.
Streamlabs states in its Talk Studio getting-started guide: “A guest’s microphone will not sound until they are moved to Show on stream.” Being connected to the session or waiting in the queue is not enough.
If shared screen or tab audio is missing
- Choose the appropriate share option. When the screen-share method offers it, enable Share System Audio or Share tab audio. The available option depends on how you are sharing.
- On Mac, allow Chrome to record the screen. Open System Settings > Privacy & Security > Screen Recording and add or enable Chrome. Relaunch the browser if the permission does not take effect.
- Check the content’s own sound. Make sure the tab, application, or media player is not muted and is actually playing audio.
These screen-share checks are described in Streamlabs’ Talk Studio screen-sharing guide. That guide also says Talk Studio background-audio upload accepts MP3 and WAV; do not assume other formats are supported without checking current product documentation.

- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Confirm YouTube is selected as a destination
- Open Profile Picture > Account Settings > Destinations and confirm YouTube has been added.
- In Talk Studio’s go-live flow, select YouTube among the destinations for the broadcast.
A destination that is missing or not selected does not by itself prove an audio-routing problem. It is still worth ruling out when the broadcast reaching YouTube is not behaving as expected. The destination setup and selection are covered in Streamlabs’ Talk Studio getting-started guide.
Keep Talk Studio and Streamlabs Desktop troubleshooting separate
Talk Studio runs in a browser; Streamlabs Desktop is a separate application. If you are using Talk Studio, start with its browser permissions, Mute-menu device selection, guest visibility, and screen-share audio controls above. Do not assume a Desktop setting or fix exists in Talk Studio.

If your broadcast actually uses Streamlabs Desktop, its Desktop audio support article recommends checking the mixer’s mute state, audio-management utilities, Windows exclusive-mode settings, and manually selecting the desktop audio device. Streamlabs’ general audio guidance also discusses routing and differences in Desktop capture between Windows and macOS. These are Desktop observations, not verified Talk Studio controls.
Troubleshooting by symptom
| What is silent? | Likely check | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Host voice | Browser permission, mute state, or wrong Talk Studio input | Review permission from the address-bar lock icon, refresh if needed, then select the intended input from the arrow beside Mute. |
| Guest voice | Guest remains in the queue | Move the guest to Show on stream; have them check mute and microphone permission if necessary. |
| Shared tab or system audio | Share-specific audio option is off | Enable Share tab audio or Share System Audio when offered, and confirm the source is not muted. |
| Mac screen-share audio | Chrome lacks Screen Recording permission | Enable Chrome in System Settings > Privacy & Security > Screen Recording, then relaunch Chrome if required. |
| YouTube broadcast destination | YouTube was not added or selected | Check Profile Picture > Account Settings > Destinations and select YouTube in the go-live flow. |
| Streamlabs Desktop audio, not Talk Studio | Desktop capture or routing configuration | Use the Desktop-specific checks in Streamlabs’ linked support articles; do not treat them as Talk Studio instructions. |
Or let it run in the cloud
If your goal is to keep prerecorded videos playing as a 24/7 YouTube live stream rather than troubleshoot a live Talk Studio microphone or screen share, StreamNeo is a separate option: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. It plays uploaded videos, not a live camera feed.
