To loop a church sermon video from Google Drive in OBS, make the video available to your computer, add it to an OBS scene as a Media Source, enable Loop, then connect OBS to the stream you create in YouTube Studio. For several clips, use OBS’s VLC Video source and enable Loop Playlist. Prepare and test the video before the service so playback does not depend on fetching an online-only Drive file at the last moment.
1. Make the Google Drive video available to OBS
Drive is the file-storage and access layer; OBS plays the video and sends its output to YouTube. OBS Media Source uses a file available to the computer, so first choose how Drive for desktop will provide the sermon video.
Choose streaming, mirroring, or a local download
- Stream My Drive files: This uses less local disk space, but online-only files need an internet connection and Drive for desktop must be running. You can mark a file available offline; Google’s advanced guidance says Drive for desktop still needs to be open and the account connected for streamed files.
- Mirror My Drive files: This keeps a local copy, making files available offline, but uses computer storage. Google notes that video-editing applications work faster with mirrored files.
- Download a local copy: If the file owner permits downloading, save it to a folder on the computer and select that copy in OBS. Downloading avoids relying on Drive’s online availability during playback.
Google says Shared Drives can only be streamed in Drive for desktop. Its download guidance also notes that owners can disable downloads for viewers and commenters; temporary download restrictions can also occur when a file receives many views or downloads over a short period. See Google’s guide to streaming and mirroring files and Google’s download instructions.
For a church service, a mirrored or downloaded file is the straightforward offline-ready choice where storage and permissions allow. This is a practical precaution, not a guarantee against every computer or OBS failure.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
2. Loop one sermon video in OBS
- Open OBS and select the scene that will feed the YouTube stream.
- In the Sources dock, select +, then choose Media Source.
- Create a new source or select an existing one. In its properties, browse to the sermon video file and select it.
- Turn on Loop, then confirm the source properties.
- Start playback in the OBS preview. Check that the picture fits the scene and that audio reaches the intended output.
OBS documents the Media Source Loop setting as specifying whether the file plays again after playback completes. Its listed built-in video formats include MP4, TS, MOV, FLV, MKV, AVI, GIF, and WebM. The exact file’s codec and your installation can still affect playback; test the selected file in OBS before relying on it. See OBS Project’s Media Sources guide.
3. Loop several sermon clips in order
- Install VLC if it is not already installed. OBS’s VLC Video source requires VLC; if OBS is 64-bit, VLC must also be 64-bit.
- In the scene’s Sources dock, select +, then choose VLC Video.
- Add the video files in the order they should play.
- Leave shuffle off if the clips must stay in that order. Enable Loop Playlist in the source properties and verify that it is on.
- Preview the playlist and listen as it moves from one clip to the next and back to the beginning.
OBS lists Loop Playlist as on by default for this source, but check the setting rather than assuming it remained enabled. Playlist order and shuffle are configurable in the source properties. If VLC Video is missing, first check that VLC is installed and that its architecture matches OBS.

4. Connect OBS to YouTube Live
- In YouTube Studio, create or schedule a livestream in Live Control Room. Your channel must be able to use YouTube Live; the available workflow can depend on channel status.
- Copy the stream’s server URL and stream key from YouTube’s encoder setup.
- In OBS, open Settings > Stream, choose the applicable YouTube connection option, and enter the server URL and stream key if OBS requests them. Keep the key private: anyone with it may be able to send video to your stream.
- Start streaming from OBS. Confirm that the encoder preview appears in YouTube Live Control Room.
- For a scheduled stream, click Go live in Live Control Room after the preview appears, as required by YouTube’s encoder workflow.
Labels and eligibility may vary with the YouTube channel and current Studio interface. Follow the encoder details shown for the specific stream; YouTube’s guide to creating a live stream with an encoder explains the Live Control Room workflow.
5. Check the loop, audio, and source file before the service
- Play the video in OBS and confirm that the picture appears in the program scene you intend to stream.
- Listen to the audio in OBS, including the transition at the end of the video or between playlist clips.
- For a single file, verify Loop; for multiple files, verify playlist order, shuffle behavior, and Loop Playlist.
- If using Drive streaming, check that Drive for desktop is running, the correct account is connected, and the file is available offline or online as intended.
- Run a test stream or private/unlisted check if appropriate for your service, and confirm YouTube receives the expected picture and sound before inviting viewers.
6. Common problems and fixes
| Problem | Likely cause | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| The sermon file is missing or will not open in OBS | The file is online-only, Drive for desktop is not running, access is signed out, or the owner blocks downloads. | Reconnect Drive for desktop and check the file’s availability. If permitted, download or mirror a local copy and select that path in the Media Source. |
| The video plays once and stops | The Media Source Loop option is off. | Open the source properties and enable Loop. |
| A playlist does not repeat or plays clips in the wrong order | Loop Playlist is off, shuffle is on, or the files were added in an unintended order. | Open VLC Video properties, check the playlist sequence, turn shuffle off if order matters, and verify Loop Playlist. |
| VLC Video is not available as a source | VLC is missing, or its architecture does not match OBS. | Install VLC; for 64-bit OBS, install 64-bit VLC, then reopen OBS and check the Sources menu. |
| Drive playback buffers or becomes unavailable | An online-only file depends on connectivity, or Drive for desktop is not available. | Check the internet connection and Drive app. For a service where continuity matters, make the file offline-available or use a local copy before going live. |
| YouTube does not show the OBS feed | The server URL or stream key is incorrect, OBS has not started streaming, or YouTube is waiting for encoder preview. | Compare OBS’s stream settings with the current stream’s Live Control Room details. For a scheduled broadcast, wait for preview and select Go live in YouTube Studio. |
7. Copyright and YouTube channel considerations
Only stream sermons and other material you have the rights or permission to broadcast, including music, readings, slides, and any third-party footage included in the recording. A video being stored in your Drive does not by itself establish that you have livestream rights. YouTube’s copyright and channel policies apply to the live broadcast as well as to the source recording. Check the rights for the specific material and YouTube’s current requirements before scheduling; the encoder setup guide covers stream creation, not a guarantee that a channel or video is eligible.

Drive’s published maximum video playback resolution is 1920 × 1080, according to Google’s Drive video playback help. That is a Drive playback limit, not an OBS or YouTube livestream resolution ceiling. Google also notes that playback quality can depend on internet speed and video quality, and that supported formats vary by device. If playback or compatibility is a concern, test the actual file on the computer that will run OBS.
