To stream an Urdu podcast playlist on YouTube with FFmpeg, prepare compatible episode files, add a continuous visual if the episodes are audio-only, then have FFmpeg encode and send the playlist to the RTMPS address and private stream key from YouTube Live Control Room. Test the full sequence in the live preview before broadcasting. This workflow is for episodes and artwork you have permission to rebroadcast; technical compatibility does not grant those rights.
Before you start: check rights and YouTube readiness
- Confirm you may rebroadcast every episode and any music, guest contributions, clips, cover art, or other third-party material in it. Rights depend on the specific content and permissions; the encoder does not establish them.
- Confirm live streaming is enabled for your channel and that it has no live-streaming restrictions in the prior 90 days. YouTube says first-time enablement may take up to 24 hours, so do not leave activation until broadcast day. YouTube live-streaming eligibility and setup
- Install FFmpeg and check which encoders your build supports. The exact command depends on your files, FFmpeg build, output dimensions, visual asset, and whether the playlist should end or repeat; no single command is reliable for every setup.
Prepare and order the podcast episodes
Inspect the source files
Make an inventory of each episode’s duration, audio and video codecs, stream count, resolution, and frame rate. Decide the episode order and whether the broadcast should play once or repeat. Consistent formats make playlist assembly more predictable.
Choose how to join the files
FFmpeg offers several concat approaches. The concat demuxer can join files without re-encoding when their streams and properties are compatible; it is not a general-purpose player for arbitrary mixtures. If the episodes differ in codec or stream layout, normalize them or use a filter-based approach, then test the result. See the FFmpeg FAQ on concatenation and FFmpeg documentation.
For audio-only episodes, prepare a still image or episode card as the video track. FFmpeg’s image2 input supports looping an image, but that option only supplies a repeated visual; it does not set episode order or configure YouTube delivery. Clear the artwork for broadcast use as well.

Get the YouTube Live ingest details
- Open YouTube Studio and go to Live Control Room; create or select the live stream.
- Copy the server/ingest URL and stream key into your local FFmpeg configuration. YouTube recommends RTMPS where supported, which uses encrypted transport.
- Keep the stream key private. YouTube describes it as the stream’s password; do not put the real value in a public script, screenshot, or log. Use a placeholder such as
<YOUTUBE_STREAM_KEY>in examples and substitute the key locally.
Follow YouTube’s encoder setup instructions for the current Live Control Room workflow and ingest details.
Set FFmpeg output to YouTube’s encoder requirements
Use YouTube’s settings for the resolution and frame rate you actually plan to send. Its current guidance lists RTMP/RTMPS, H.264 video, AAC or MP3 audio, constant bitrate (CBR), frame rates up to 60 fps, and a recommended two-second keyframe interval (no more than four seconds). For stereo audio, YouTube lists 44.1 kHz and 128 kbps. Video bitrate recommendations vary by codec, resolution, and frame rate, so choose the matching row in YouTube’s encoder settings and bitrate table rather than copying an unrelated preset.

FFmpeg accepts inputs with -i, can process or transcode streams, and writes to an output URL; its documentation includes RTMP examples and real-time pacing with -re. Those options do not make an unexamined command universal. Build the command around the actual episode streams, the chosen visual, output settings, and the ingest URL. For a command-line overview, consult the FFmpeg documentation.
Test the playlist and monitor the live stream
- Start with a private or unlisted test stream if appropriate, using media and settings similar to the planned broadcast.
- Watch the Live Control Room preview. Confirm that the picture is present, episodes play in the intended order, transitions do not introduce gaps or silence, and audio is intelligible and synchronized.
- Check stream health and your available upload capacity. YouTube recommends 20% upload headroom above the total stream bitrate; keep monitoring while the broadcast runs. See its live streaming tips.
- After the stream, check the resulting recording and archive settings in Studio. YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived under its encoder instructions, but confirm the result for your particular stream. YouTube encoder instructions
Common problems and fixes
- Concat errors or missing episode audio: the files may have incompatible stream properties or layouts. Inspect the inputs, normalize them, or switch to an appropriate filter-based workflow; test the complete playlist.
- Black preview for an audio-only playlist: audio does not supply a video picture. Add a looping still image or another continuous visual track and check that it remains present in the preview.
- Stream does not connect: verify the ingest URL, private stream key, RTMPS support in the selected output, and the channel’s live-stream eligibility. Do not reveal the key while troubleshooting.
- Unstable stream health: check total output bitrate against available upload capacity and leave the recommended 20% headroom. Reduce the chosen resolution or bitrate to a suitable YouTube-recommended setting if needed.
- Unexpected silence, gaps, clipping, or bad transitions: run a test using the actual playlist and listen through the joins. Verify source durations and episode order, then adjust or normalize the media before the public stream.
- Image looks stretched or cropped: check the output dimensions and the still image’s aspect ratio, then inspect the Live Control Room preview before going live.
