No. The safer choice is not to download GTA 5 from SteamUnlocked: Rockstar advises against downloading software from third-party sources, including cracked games, and Steam warns that malware targeting Steam users can be disguised as pirated software. That does not prove that any particular SteamUnlocked file is infected; no file-specific analysis is established here. A clean antivirus scan or a warning-free download cannot guarantee a file is safe.
Why Rockstar and Steam advise against unofficial downloads
Rockstar Games Customer Support’s “Best Practices for Protecting Your Rockstar Games Account,” updated February 17, 2026, says: “Don’t download software from third-party sources, including cracked games.” Read Rockstar’s account-security guidance.

Steam Support describes the risk to Steam users: “Malware that targets Steam may be disguised as Pirated software, cheats, fake game demos / betas, or gaming adjacent utilities such as communications software, mod / inventory managers, etc.” Read Steam’s account security recommendations.
These warnings support a practical recommendation to avoid the download, but they are not a forensic verdict on a specific GTA 5 file from SteamUnlocked. There is no substantiated malware rate or file-specific scan result to cite here, so claims that every copy is infected—or that a particular copy is clean—would go beyond the evidence.

Why a clean scan or browser warning does not settle it
Microsoft SmartScreen checks visited webpages and downloaded applications against reported malicious sites and files, and considers the reputation of unfamiliar files. It is a warning layer, not a certification that every file it allows is safe or proof that every warning identifies malware. See Microsoft’s SmartScreen overview.
Do not disable antivirus protections to run a cracked game or follow an unofficial download page’s instructions to bypass a security warning. Rockstar recommends keeping antivirus or anti-malware software updated. A scan can be useful, but it cannot turn an untrusted source into an official one or guarantee that a file is harmless.

Where to get GTA 5 for PC instead
Use an official publisher or storefront route. Rockstar’s downloads page lists the Rockstar Games Launcher and Steam for PC; its GTA V BattlEye troubleshooting guidance also names the Rockstar Games Launcher, Steam, and Epic Games Launcher as platform-specific locations and advises launching through the respective platform. Check the official pages for current availability and edition details.
Rockstar’s BattlEye guidance says GTA Online will not connect to official servers without BattlEye. That is relevant to official online functionality; it does not establish what is inside a SteamUnlocked download.

If you already downloaded or ran the file
Downloaded but not opened
Do not run it. Remove the file using your operating system’s security tools, then obtain the game through an official source.
Already ran it, or entered account details
Run a scan with current reputable security software. If you entered Steam credentials or notice suspicious account activity, Steam recommends reviewing authorized devices, signing out everywhere if activity looks wrong, changing your Steam password, reviewing your email and associated accounts, and scanning for malware. Steam’s account guidance explains its account-security steps.

What the license terms say
The Rockstar EULA hosted on Steam restricts transferring or distributing copies without express prior written consent, and says only software subject to a valid license can access online services, including updates and patches. Read the Rockstar EULA hosted on Steam. The terms support using a validly licensed copy; legal consequences of unauthorized copying or distribution depend on the circumstances and jurisdiction.
