1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteYou can use OBS to loop music in a YouTube livestream, but only if you have permission for the specific A. R. Rahman recordings and compositions, including worldwide live use. Owning a CD, subscribing to a music service, or crediting the artist does not grant that permission. If you have the required rights, the steps below cover how to prepare and monitor an OBS stream—and what to know about YouTube’s copyright checks and archives.
Before setting up OBS, clear the music rights
YouTube’s Livestream terms and conditions make the provider responsible for having the rights needed to use live content worldwide, including music licensing rights from artists, record labels, publishers and other royalty participants. The rights status of any particular A. R. Rahman recording is not established here, so do not treat this workflow as permission to rebroadcast it.
Clearance may need to cover both the sound recording and the underlying composition, the territories where you intend to stream, continuous live use, and any archived playback. If you do not have permission for that use, choose music you own or music whose owner has expressly authorized it. YouTube identifies public-domain music and music used with the copyright owner’s permission as safer choices; its safe-music guidance also cautions that a “free” label or written credit alone does not establish that music is safe to use.
Ask about Content ID allowlisting
YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. A match can trigger a warning or placeholder, and a broadcast may be interrupted or terminated if the material remains. YouTube advises creators who have licensed third-party content to ask the rights owner to add their channel to its Content ID allowlist. Without allowlisting, a stream may still be interrupted even when the creator has a license. Archived broadcasts can also receive Content ID claims after the live stream ends. See YouTube’s guidance on copyright issues with live streams.

Creator Music is not clearance for an OBS livestream
YouTube’s Creator Music FAQ says Creator Music does not support licensing for live content. Its terms vary by track, and its catalog is being rolled out to YouTube Partner Program creators in the United States. A Creator Music license or revenue-share option for a video should not be treated as permission to play a track in a live stream.

Set up a loop in OBS
- Run the Auto-Configuration Wizard. In OBS, use Tools > Auto-Configuration Wizard to configure OBS for your system and intended stream. OBS’s Quick Start Guide recommends this as an initial setup step.
- Create a scene and add your cleared audio source. In the Scenes panel, create a scene. In Sources, use + and select Media Source to add a permitted media file. For a set of files, OBS also offers a VLC Video Source that can loop a playlist. Refer to the current OBS Media Sources guide if a label or control differs in your installed version.
- Enable looping and check audio. Open the Media Source properties and turn on Loop for a single file. For a playlist, use the VLC Video source’s playlist-loop option. Play the scene and confirm the audio meter responds. Check OBS’s output settings before streaming; the available sources do not establish a single bitrate or resolution suitable for every computer, connection or YouTube event.
- Create an encoder stream in YouTube Studio. In YouTube Studio, open the Live Control Room and create or schedule a stream using an encoder. Follow YouTube’s encoder setup guide and live stream settings guide for the available controls.
- Copy the stream URL and key into OBS. Copy both from the stream’s YouTube settings into OBS’s stream configuration. The key functions like a password and address for the stream; keep it private and do not publish or share it.
- Preview, test and go live. Start streaming from OBS and wait for the preview in YouTube’s Live Control Room. Check that picture and sound are present before starting the event. Do a short test in advance, then monitor audio, video and stream status while live; have a plan to stop the broadcast if YouTube displays a copyright warning or the connection fails.
Choose a session length with YouTube’s archive limits in mind
A continuous 24-hour broadcast does not guarantee a complete YouTube replay. YouTube says streams shorter than 12 hours are automatically archived, but a stream longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all. DVR rewind can also be limited or unavailable for streams over 12 hours. The platform’s archive guidance and DVR guidance explain these limits.
If preserving replays matters, end the broadcast and schedule shorter sessions rather than relying on one uninterrupted 24/7 event. Keep a local recording where appropriate, and confirm separately that your music permissions cover archived playback as well as live use.

Troubleshoot common problems
- YouTube warns about copyrighted content or interrupts the stream: Stop or change the broadcast rather than assuming a license prevents a match. Confirm the exact live and archive rights, and ask the rights owner about Content ID allowlisting for your channel.
- The file plays once and stops: Reopen the Media Source properties and check that Loop is enabled. If using a playlist, check the loop setting for the VLC Video source.
- The OBS audio meter does not move: Confirm the intended media source is active in the scene and playing. Test the scene before starting the YouTube event.
- YouTube does not show a preview: Check that OBS has the correct stream URL and key from the intended YouTube event, then review the Live Control Room status. Treat the key as a credential; if it was exposed, replace it in YouTube’s stream settings.
- The event has no complete replay: A broadcast longer than 12 hours may not be captured, and DVR may be limited. Use shorter sessions if the archive is important.
