Windows Errors? Fix Them Before They Spread
Repair common Windows errors and clear accumulated junk for a smoother, more stable PC - no reinstall needed.Free scan · no reinstallOutdated Drivers Are Slowing You Down
One free scan finds every outdated or missing driver and matches the right update for your exact hardware.Free scan · exact hardware matchFirst, check which OBS Stats counter is rising: rendering lag, encoding lag, or dropped frames (network). They point to different bottlenecks, so lowering bitrate will not fix a GPU rendering problem, and changing encoder settings will not fix a weak outbound connection. Reduce the workload that matches the warning, then test again with the same kind of gameplay, scenes, overlays, and audio you plan to stream.
Diagnose the warning before changing settings
In OBS, open View > Stats and note which frame-loss counter is increasing. Save the log for the affected session as well; the log can help identify the encoder and configuration if the first fixes do not work. Reproduce your normal workload rather than testing an empty scene: gameplay movement, browser sources, filters, transitions, and audio can all change the load.
- Rendering lag: OBS is not composing frames quickly enough, commonly because the GPU is busy with a game or other work.
- Encoding lag: frames are rendered but the selected encoder cannot encode them at the chosen output settings in time.
- Network dropped frames: OBS cannot deliver data reliably to YouTube. This is distinct from local render or encode overload.
OBS’s troubleshooting guidance focuses on freeing resources for OBS when output is choppy or an “encoding overloaded” message appears (OBS Project, Encoding Performance Troubleshooting, published June 12, 2021). YouTube likewise recommends testing with audio and video movement similar to the actual stream and then monitoring stream health (YouTube Help, encoder settings and troubleshooting).
Fix rendering lag first if that counter is rising
Rendering lag means OBS is short of time or GPU capacity to compose the scene. A game can appear to run smoothly while leaving too little GPU headroom for OBS.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
- On Windows, relaunch OBS as administrator. Close OBS, right-click its shortcut, choose Run as administrator, then test again. OBS lists this as a quick remedy for many GPU-overload cases.
- Limit game GPU demand. Cap an uncapped game’s frame rate at a sustainable value or enable V-Sync. If the counter still climbs, lower demanding game graphics settings.
- Close other GPU-heavy applications that are running during the stream, then retest.
- Simplify the OBS scene. Reduce costly filters and unnecessary browser or media sources; use lower-resolution source media where full resolution is not needed. Simplify scene collections if they add sources you do not need.
- Reduce OBS output resolution or frame rate if the GPU still cannot keep up. Lowering the base canvas resolution is more disruptive because you may need to reposition sources.
- If the issue coincides with Hardware-accelerated GPU scheduling (HAGS) on Windows, try turning HAGS off and rebooting. Treat this as a troubleshooting test, not a universal setting.
Bitrate controls how much encoded data is sent; it does not reduce the work OBS needs to render and composite a scene. Do not start by lowering bitrate when rendering lag is the counter increasing.
Fix encoding lag if the encoder cannot keep up
Encoding lag means the encoder is not completing frames fast enough for the selected resolution and frame rate. Reduce the amount of video work per second and check whether the counter stops rising.

Note: This device is not compatible with Linux.
- What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (5-in-1, 4K HDMI), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.
- Lower output frame rate. OBS specifically suggests trying 30 fps when 60 fps is failing. This reduces motion smoothness but can make the stream sustainable.
- Lower output resolution. If 4K encoding remains overloaded, test a lower resolution before deciding that 4K60 is viable on the current setup.
- Review encoder choice and workload. OBS generally recommends hardware encoding when available because a specialized component can take encoding work off the CPU. Availability, compatibility, and performance depend on the machine and workload; switching encoders does not necessarily fix GPU rendering saturation or a driver/configuration problem.
Do not choose a specific preset, codec, or upgrade based on the warning alone. The appropriate setting depends on the OBS version, operating system, selected encoder, CPU and GPU, drivers, and scene. If the issue persists, use the saved log and those system details to narrow the diagnosis before changing hardware.
Keep network drops separate from encoder overload
If OBS reports dropped frames from connection trouble while rendering and encoding counters remain healthy, investigate the outbound connection rather than treating it as an encoder problem. YouTube recommends checking the stream in the encoder, testing outbound connection strength, and consulting the ISP if that test identifies a problem. Run an upload speed test and use a representative test stream; do not assume a new router, cable, or internet plan will solve a local encoding warning.

Match YouTube’s 4K60 ingest settings, then test
YouTube’s current 2160p60 guidance specifies different ingest bitrates by codec. These are platform recommendations and minimums for sending a stream to YouTube—not proof that a particular computer can render and encode 4K60 in real time.
| Codec | YouTube minimum | YouTube recommendation |
|---|---|---|
| AV1 or H.265 (HEVC) | 10 Mbps | 35 Mbps |
| H.264 | 14 Mbps | 50 Mbps |
These figures are from YouTube Help’s 2160p60 table, accessed October 3, 2026. The same guidance calls for RTMP/RTMPS, CBR, support for up to 60 fps, and a recommended 2-second keyframe interval that must not exceed 4 seconds. For 4K, use normal latency; YouTube’s low-latency option is unavailable at that resolution.

After changing one category of settings, run a representative test with the same gameplay and production elements you expect to use. Confirm that the relevant OBS counter stays stable and monitor YouTube’s stream health and messages. If the test still fails, keep the OBS log, encoder selection, system hardware, and exact output settings together; those details are needed to prescribe a more specific fix.
