To run an Indian music channel on YouTube for Smart TV viewers, you need two things: an encoder that sends a stable, horizontal audio-and-visual feed to YouTube, and permission for every recording and musical composition in the playlist. YouTube Live can be watched on television, but YouTube does not guarantee an uninterrupted 24/7 broadcast; streams longer than 12 hours may not be archived. For a continuous programme, plan monitoring, recovery and rights management alongside the stream itself.
Plan the channel around two separate jobs
A 24/7 music channel is both a live-broadcast operation and a rights-clearing operation. An encoder can package and send your programme, but it does not grant permission to broadcast the music or artwork. Similarly, permission to use music does not prevent an encoder, network or power failure from stopping the feed.
- Broadcast: Prepare a horizontal programme, send it from an encoder through YouTube’s Live Control Room, test the viewer experience on a television, and arrange for someone to detect and respond to failures.
- Rights: Confirm permission for both the sound recording and the underlying musical work, including the planned livestream, territories and any archive or replay.
YouTube for Artists notes that more fans are watching music moments on TV screens and describes horizontal video as the traditional format. That makes a landscape presentation a sensible starting point for a Smart TV audience, not a guarantee of how every TV will display the stream. Test the actual watch page on the devices your audience is likely to use.
Check channel eligibility and choose a schedule
Enable live streaming before launch
YouTube requires channel verification and no live-streaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days. YouTube for Artists recommends enabling live streaming at least 24 hours before the first planned broadcast. Check the channel’s eligibility in YouTube Studio well ahead of launch rather than discovering an activation delay on launch day. These requirements are described in YouTube Help’s “Get started with live streaming” and YouTube for Artists’ “Going Live for Music Channels.”

Choose between one long feed and shorter sessions
A single stream that runs continuously may be operationally simple, but it is a poor choice if you need a reliable YouTube archive: YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived, while streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all. A safer archive-oriented schedule is a series of shorter, planned sessions, with each session kept under 12 hours. Record locally as a second copy if an archive matters. That local recording is a backup, not a substitute for the YouTube archive or music permissions.
| Schedule | Practical advantage | Archive and continuity consideration |
|---|---|---|
| One stream longer than 12 hours | Fewer planned session changes for a continuous programme. | YouTube warns that streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all. Plan a local recording if you need a copy. |
| Consecutive sessions, each under 12 hours | Creates planned points to restart, check the setup and publish a new session. | YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. A local recording remains prudent if the archive is important. |
Neither schedule guarantees uninterrupted viewing. YouTube’s archive guidance is about capture, not uptime.
Prepare the music and visual programme
Build a horizontal feed
Use an encoder to combine the music audio with a visual you are entitled to use, such as original artwork or a cleared visual loop. Design for a television viewed from across a room: keep channel identity and any current-program information legible at a distance, and avoid visual elements that compete with the listening experience. These are design recommendations, not YouTube technical requirements.

Use the encoder’s settings and YouTube’s current Live Control Room guidance to select a supported video and audio configuration for your source and connection. The YouTube guidance cited here does not establish one universal bitrate, resolution, frame rate or keyframe interval for every channel and encoder, so do not treat an arbitrary preset as a guaranteed best setting. Confirm that the encoder is sending the format you selected and that the incoming preview looks and sounds correct before you publish.
Make the playlist rights-ready
For every track, identify the owner or administrator of the master recording and the owner or administrator of the composition. They are different interests: a label may administer a recording, while a publisher or collecting society may administer composition rights. YouTube Help’s “Music Rights Management on YouTube” explains these distinctions.
Obtain permission that covers the intended YouTube livestream, territories, duration, pairing with the visual, and any archive or replay. YouTube’s “Livestream terms and conditions” places responsibility on the provider to obtain the necessary rights for use on Google services, including rights in relevant territories. A specific Indian catalogue needs a track-by-track review; these general YouTube materials do not establish a blanket licence for Indian music. Confirm the rights for the actual repertoire with the relevant rights holders and qualified Indian counsel before launch.

A personal music subscription, a purchased download, or crediting the artist does not by itself establish permission to rebroadcast a track. Keep a written rights log so you can check what is cleared before a track enters the rotation.
Create and start the YouTube live stream
- Open the Live Control Room: In YouTube Studio, select Create → Go live. Configure a new stream or schedule one in the Live Control Room. Scheduling gives you a watch page to prepare and promote in advance.
- Copy the YouTube connection details: Copy the Live server URL and stream key shown for that stream into the encoder’s YouTube settings. Treat the stream key like a password; anyone who obtains it may be able to send a feed to your stream. If it is exposed, replace or rotate it in Studio before continuing.
- Configure the encoder: Select the intended horizontal video and audio sources, supported output settings, and the stream key. Start the encoder output and wait for YouTube to receive it.
- Inspect the incoming preview: Check that the picture is correctly oriented, the audio is present and clear, and the programme is the one you intend to publish. Resolve any encoder or connection warnings before going live.
- Set the audience-facing state: Choose the intended privacy setting in the Live Control Room. Use an unlisted test before a public launch, then verify that the correct watch page and audience access are in place.
- Start the broadcast: Begin the stream through the Live Control Room and confirm that the public watch page is playing. YouTube’s encoder and live-stream guidance describes the stream-creation and server URL/key workflow; the encoder sends the feed, while the Live Control Room controls the YouTube broadcast.
Test the Smart TV viewing path
Before launch, run an unlisted test and open its watch page in the YouTube app on representative Smart TVs. Check orientation, legibility from normal viewing distance, audio level and continuity, and confirm that the stream appears where you expect viewers to find it. Also check the watch page from a phone or computer. YouTube’s general streaming tips recommend checking access and monitoring audio and video; the TV-device test is an additional practical step for this audience.

Clear Content ID and document permissions
Permission and Content ID allowlisting are related but separate tasks. A rights owner may have licensed the use, yet YouTube can still interrupt the stream if that owner has not allowlisted the channel. YouTube Help’s “Copyright issues with live streams” warns: “If your channel isn’t added to their allowlist, your live stream can be interrupted even if you’ve licensed the content.”
Contact the relevant label, distributor, publisher or other rights owner to request the appropriate Content ID allowlisting for the channel. Do not treat allowlisting as the licence itself: retain the actual permission and confirm its scope separately.
Keep a track-level record with at least the following:

Build a continuity and recovery runbook
A 24/7 schedule needs a response plan for a dead encoder, failed internet connection, silent audio, loss of power, rights interruption or other stopped feed. YouTube recommends monitoring stream quality, checking local archive files and testing encoder failover. The steps below turn those tips into an operating routine; they are not a YouTube-prescribed architecture or an uptime guarantee.
- Check the feed: Confirm that the encoder is running and YouTube’s incoming preview is updating.
- Check the viewer experience: Open the watch page and verify picture, audio and access from a viewer’s perspective.
- Check the recording: If recording locally, verify that the file is being created and can be played back.
- Test recovery: Test the backup encoder or restart procedure before relying on it during a real interruption.
- Assign responsibility: Name an operator or alert recipient who can act when the stream stops, turns silent or receives a rights-related interruption.
- Record incidents: Note when an interruption occurred, what caused it and how service was restored, so repeated failure points can be addressed.
Consider monetization and equipment after the essentials
YouTube for Artists describes ads, shopping and Supers as live monetization features, subject to eligibility. A 24/7 schedule does not guarantee monetization or revenue. First verify that the channel and content meet YouTube’s requirements; do not build a budget around unconfirmed earnings.
YouTube supports both software encoders and standalone hardware encoders. A software encoder may suit a setup with a capable computer and an available operator; hardware may fit a different workflow. Compare options by input and format support, automation and restart capabilities, local recording, failover, ongoing cost and who will monitor the system. The existence of either encoder type does not clear music rights or ensure uninterrupted service.
Or let it run in the cloud
If you prefer not to keep a computer and home connection running, StreamNeo is a cloud service for keeping an uploaded-video YouTube channel live. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once and go live; StreamNeo loops the video from the cloud. It plays uploaded videos, not a live camera feed.
Recommended Free Tools
- Nothing has to stay on at home for the stream to keep going.
- Videos stream as uploaded, up to 4K 60fps, at one flat price per slot rather than quality-based tiers.
- StreamNeo automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream.
- The first day is free with no card, one free day per account.
- The monthly option is $9.99 per month.
Review the playlist’s rights and any archive needs before starting a cloud stream, just as you would for an encoder-based broadcast. Start your free StreamNeo day.
What YouTube’s audience figures do—and do not—say
YouTube for Artists reports that “On average, over 30% of daily logged-in YouTube viewers watched live content in Q2 2025 alone.” That figure describes daily logged-in YouTube viewers overall; it is not a measure of Indian viewers, Smart TV viewers, or expected audience for a particular music channel.
