If Restream says your YouTube stream key is invalid, first check that your encoder is using the RTMP URL and key from the correct Restream stream or scheduled event. If those values are correct, check the connected YouTube channel, reconnect it if needed, and test whether YouTube can go live directly. The documented fixes are the same for India as elsewhere; the official guidance reviewed does not identify a separate India-specific stream-key rule.
Find which connection is rejecting the stream
With Restream, your encoder sends video to Restream using Restream’s RTMP URL and stream key. Restream then forwards the stream to the YouTube channel connected as a destination. An invalid-key message can therefore point to encoder credentials that do not match the intended Restream stream, or to a problem with the YouTube destination connection. (Restream: support guidance)
Start with the encoder-to-Restream details. If they are correct but YouTube is not receiving the broadcast, check the channel connection and live-stream access. The steps below follow that order.
Fix the encoder credentials first
- Open the intended Restream stream or event. In Restream, find the stream card for the broadcast you are trying to send. If it is scheduled, open that event and use its own RTMP details. A key for a different stream may send the encoder to a separate stream instead of the planned event.
- Copy the current RTMP URL and key again. Replace the saved values in OBS or your other encoder with the values shown on the correct Restream card. Restream says a key stays static unless it is reset, but a newly created RTMP stream has a different key; an encoder still using the old details must be updated.
- Check the encoder’s input format. In OBS, Restream supports connecting an account or manually selecting “Use Stream Key” and entering the details. In a mobile broadcasting app, check whether the server URL and key belong in separate fields or whether the app expects them joined with a slash; formats vary by app.
- Confirm the correct YouTube destination is enabled. In the Restream stream setup, make sure the intended YouTube channel is connected and enabled for this broadcast.
For OBS setup, see Restream’s Connect OBS to Restream instructions. Its guide says OBS can autodetect a server based on location; it does not identify server region as a cause or fix for an invalid-key error.

Reconnect YouTube and reset its key if needed
If the encoder has the correct Restream details but the YouTube destination connection appears to be the problem, Restream recommends removing the YouTube channel and adding it again. Its recovery process includes resetting the stream key in YouTube Studio as part of reconnecting.
- In Restream, remove the affected YouTube channel from your connected destinations.
- In YouTube Studio, open the stream settings and click Reset next to the stream key, following Restream’s reconnection instructions.
- Add the YouTube channel to Restream again, then confirm it is enabled on the intended stream.
- If an encoder connects directly to YouTube anywhere in your setup, update its saved key after the reset. A reset key makes the previous value stale.

Check YouTube live access and event type
- Live streaming must be enabled for the channel. If YouTube reports that the channel is not enabled to stream live, complete YouTube’s live-streaming enablement process before retrying through Restream.
- Use an event type that supports your route. Restream notes that events created through the YouTube mobile app are mobile-only; trying to send one through Restream will fail. Create or select an event suitable for the encoder workflow instead.
Test directly on YouTube to isolate the fault
Try a direct YouTube broadcast, or a private or unlisted test stream where appropriate. Restream documents private and unlisted tests as ways to check a stream before going live. If the direct YouTube test also fails, focus on YouTube’s channel access or stream settings and contact YouTube support if the issue persists. If direct streaming works but delivery through Restream does not, revisit the connected channel and the credentials attached to the intended Restream stream card.

Does India require a different fix?
The official Restream guidance cited here does not document an India-only stream-key rule or remedy. It does not establish VPN use, an Indian ISP restriction, a regional server choice, or an account’s country setting as the cause of this error. Work through the credential, destination, and direct-test checks above rather than changing network or hardware settings without evidence.
