YouTube does not publish a minimum laptop specification for this particular workload, so the model name alone cannot answer the question. Test the actual laptop at the settings you plan to use before relying on it unattended. If you are streaming prerecorded yoga footage and the laptop cannot stay online, a cloud playout service is an alternative.
What determines whether your old laptop can manage it?
A 24/7 broadcast has to keep encoding and sending video for long periods. Feasibility depends on the laptop’s condition, its sustained encoding performance, cooling and power, as well as the upload capacity available at the location. YouTube says a laptop can be used for streaming, but its guidance does not establish minimum hardware requirements for this use.
Match the chosen video resolution, frame rate and bitrate to both the computer’s sustained performance and your measured upload speed. A successful short test is not proof the machine will remain stable unattended for a full day.
Check YouTube eligibility before preparing the stream
YouTube’s live-stream guidance, accessed in 2026, says a channel must be verified and have no live-stream restrictions in the preceding 90 days. First-time activation can take up to 24 hours, and YouTube sets the minimum age for live streaming at 16. Check that streaming is enabled before you schedule the broadcast. Choose settings the laptop and connection can sustain
YouTube’s current recommended H.264 ingestion bitrates include the following. These are platform recommendations, not a guarantee that an older laptop can encode at that setting.

YouTube recommends upload bandwidth at least 20% above the stream’s total bitrate. For example, a 6 Mbps stream calls for at least 7.2 Mbps of available upload capacity under that calculation. Other household use can consume capacity, so measure upload—not download—speed where the laptop will run. YouTube cautions that a connectivity disruption can break a stream. Its recommendations may change; check the current encoder settings before going live.

Run a sustained test before depending on it
- Use the same video, audio, resolution, frame rate and bitrate intended for the broadcast.
- Test from the actual location and network. Leave enough upload headroom for other devices and normal fluctuations.
- Monitor YouTube’s stream health and the encoder for dropped frames, interruptions and audio/video problems.
- Watch for overheating, instability or other signs that the laptop cannot sustain the workload. Keep it on reliable power and ensure its cooling vents are unobstructed.
- If the test is unstable, lower resolution, frame rate or bitrate and test again. Do not rely on a setting that only works briefly.
YouTube recommends testing with audio and movement similar to the eventual content and monitoring stream health. A yoga video with moving imagery and a continuous audio loop is a better test than a static desktop. YouTube’s guidance does not establish that any particular old laptop will pass.
Plan separately for the broadcast and its archive
YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived, but warns that streams exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. A single 24-hour session should therefore not be relied on to produce a complete YouTube archive. If keeping a recording matters, plan shorter sessions and keep a local recording backup. The available guidance does not establish that ending and restarting sessions creates seamless playback.

Clear rights to the yoga video and relaxation audio
Use only video and audio for which you have the necessary rights for a YouTube livestream and any archive. YouTube scans live streams for third-party content; if it identifies such material, it may replace the picture with a placeholder and warn the creator. Continued use can interrupt or terminate the stream. A music license may also require the rights-holder to allowlist your channel in Content ID. Check that your specific license covers worldwide YouTube livestreaming and archived playback—credit, purchase or a music subscription alone does not establish that permission. What the India-specific context does—and does not—tell you
The National Informatics Centre’s webcast-service guidance specifies 2–4 Mbps of dedicated bandwidth per stream for its own webcast service. That is not a YouTube requirement and cannot certify a home connection; use YouTube’s bitrate recommendations and a local upload test instead. The NIC guidance is available at webcast.gov.in.

Your ISP’s upload capacity, power reliability, laptop condition and exact media rights depend on your circumstances; they cannot be inferred from being in India. If power interruptions are a concern, consider appropriate backup power, while remembering that keeping the laptop powered does not guarantee that the ISP connection will remain available.

For prerecorded yoga footage, the practical paths are to reduce settings until the laptop passes a sustained test or use a cloud encoder or playout service. YouTube’s encoder directory lists a cloud-based option described as supporting 24/7 streams of prerecorded video. That listing does not establish the suitability, price, country availability or service reliability of any particular provider.
