For a Linux-hosted playlist that must go directly to YouTube Live, Liquidsoap is the most clearly documented fit. Its project homepage shows video clips used as a fallback source, FFmpeg encoding, and RTMP output to YouTube. AzuraCast is a better fit for browser-based radio-station administration and scheduled playlists, but its documented output is centered on an Icecast-KH radio frontend rather than ready-made YouTube video delivery. Neither tool by itself guarantees an uninterrupted broadcast.
If you would rather not maintain a Linux host and streaming setup, StreamNeo is a cloud option: upload videos, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. It is the first option to consider when the priority is keeping uploaded video looping without leaving a computer running.
Which Linux playlist manager should you choose?
| Option | Best fit | Playlist and media workflow | YouTube route | Main trade-off |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| StreamNeo | Creators who want uploaded videos to keep streaming without maintaining a Linux machine | Upload a recording or build a playlist; it loops from the cloud. | Direct YouTube streaming after you add your stream key. | Cloud service rather than a self-hosted Linux playlist manager. Any quality up to 4K 60fps is streamed as uploaded at one flat price per slot; the first day is free. |
| Liquidsoap | Linux operators comfortable configuring scripts who need a customizable video stream | Scripted playlists, directories, scheduled sources, fallbacks, mixing, and transitions. | The official project homepage demonstrates FFmpeg-encoded RTMP output to YouTube Live. | No graphical interface; Liquidsoap scripts are written by hand. Liquidsoap project homepage |
| AzuraCast | Operators who want browser-based station and media administration | Web media manager, rotation, recurring playlists, scheduled time blocks, and date ranges. | The documented stack is AutoDJ with an Icecast-KH radio frontend. YouTube video output requires extra configuration or another encoder workflow. | Convenient station administration, but not presented in its documentation as a one-click YouTube video playlist product. AzuraCast, documentation |
For a self-hosted video playlist sent to YouTube, choose Liquidsoap. For a radio-style station where managing media and schedules in a browser matters more than direct YouTube video output, choose AzuraCast. A scheduler and a YouTube encoder destination are separate parts of the system: YouTube’s documented workflow requires configuring an encoder with the stream URL and key, then connecting it and using Live Control Room.
These are capability comparisons, not uptime or encoding-performance rankings; no independent benchmark or hands-on test is available to establish those outcomes.
#1 Best Overall
- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. - Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
What a 24/7 YouTube setup needs
Keeping a playlist ready is only one part of a continuous broadcast. The files, playlist engine, encoder, Linux host, network connection, and YouTube Live session all have to work together. A playlist manager does not keep a stream alive if its host or connection fails, and a scheduled event in YouTube Studio does not start the encoder for you.
- Media and schedule: Create a playlist and define how it rotates or what plays at a particular time.
- Video and audio output: Choose an encoding path that can deliver the video and audio your stream needs.
- YouTube destination: Configure the encoder with YouTube’s stream URL and private stream key.
- Fallback and monitoring: Decide what should happen if a live input or media source is unavailable, and check whether the stream remains connected.
- Hosting and upkeep: For self-hosting, account for the Linux machine or VPS, storage, bandwidth, backups, and maintenance.
Liquidsoap: the direct route from Linux video playlist to YouTube
Liquidsoap is the clearest documented choice when the goal is to assemble a video stream from sources and send it directly to YouTube Live. Its official homepage describes building audio and video streams in code and demonstrates an arrangement that can take a live OBS video input, fall back to a playlist of video clips, encode with FFmpeg, and send the result over RTMP to YouTube Live. See the Liquidsoap project homepage.

Set up the sources and output
- Prepare the media. Organize the video clips you want to play and make sure the Linux host can access them. Define the playlist and any backup source in your Liquidsoap configuration.
- Choose the source behavior. Decide whether the playlist runs continuously, whether a live OBS input takes priority, and what fallback should play if a source is unavailable. Liquidsoap’s documented example uses a playlist as a fallback for live video input.
- Configure encoding. Set up the video and audio encoding path with FFmpeg. Use an output compatible with the YouTube Live encoder workflow; the Liquidsoap example demonstrates RTMP output.
- Connect the YouTube destination. Configure the stream URL and key provided for your YouTube Live setup. Treat the stream key as a password: do not publish it in a script, screenshot, or public repository.
- Start and verify the stream. Start the Liquidsoap process and confirm that YouTube Live Control Room receives the encoder signal and shows the intended content before relying on it for continuous playback.
Liquidsoap offers control over sources, transitions, and fallbacks, but that flexibility comes with scripting work. The project documentation describes scripts as hand-written; it is not a graphical playlist manager.
AzuraCast: easier station administration, extra work for YouTube video
AzuraCast is a self-hosted radio suite whose AutoDJ is built on Liquidsoap. Its web interface is useful for managing a station library and schedules, including playlist rotation, scheduled time blocks, and date ranges. The documented output stack is centered on an Icecast-KH radio frontend, so the documentation does not establish AzuraCast as a ready-made YouTube Live video destination. Put files into playlists and set the schedule
- Upload or add the station media. Use AzuraCast’s media manager to put the files in the station library.
- Assign files to a playlist. The media guide notes that unassigned files will not be played automatically, so make sure the intended tracks or clips belong to a playlist.
- Set the rotation or time blocks. Use the station interface for general rotation, recurring playlists, scheduled blocks, and date ranges.
- Plan the YouTube output separately. If the target is YouTube video rather than the documented radio frontend, expect additional Liquidsoap configuration or another encoder workflow.
AzuraCast is a natural fit when the primary job is administering a radio-style station through a browser. Its advanced playlist feature also allows manual Liquidsoap configuration, but that is a more technical path and does not turn the documented Icecast-centered output into a one-click YouTube video stream.
Keep the broadcast recoverable
Continuous streaming depends on more than playlist scheduling. The documented systems provide sources and fallback concepts, but no installation can guarantee that the host, media, encoder, network, and YouTube session will remain healthy without oversight.

- Test the full path from media source through encoder to YouTube before treating it as a 24/7 setup.
- Configure a fallback source where your workflow supports it, and make sure the fallback itself is available to the host.
- Monitor the encoder and YouTube Live Control Room for a dropped connection or missing content.
- Keep a separate copy of important station media. AzuraCast recommends backing up station media to a second location; it also documents S3-compatible remote media storage as an option. AzuraCast documentation.
- For a YouTube schedule, distinguish the scheduled event from the encoder connection: the event promotes an upcoming stream, while the encoder still must connect and send content. YouTube’s live-streaming help.
Plan the archive separately from the live playlist
A continuous broadcast does not automatically mean YouTube will keep a complete archive. YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. If a complete archive of a longer-running stream matters, plan separate recordings rather than assuming the live playlist will produce a full replay. YouTube’s live-streaming help.
Or let it run in the cloud
With StreamNeo, upload your recording or playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. StreamNeo loops the uploaded videos from the cloud, so nothing has to stay on at home. It streams what you uploaded at any quality up to 4K 60fps for one flat price per slot, and it automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. The monthly option is $9.99 per month.
