If your YouTube encoder keeps reconnecting after a VPS network reset, first confirm the VPS has internet access again. Then let the encoder retry, verify its YouTube stream URL and key, and check the incoming feed in YouTube Live Control Room. A reconnect message alone does not prove the broadcast is back.
Recover the stream in this order
- Confirm the VPS is online. Check your hosting provider’s status panel, then test connectivity using instructions for your VPS operating system and network configuration. The right commands depend on those details, so do not run generic network-reset commands without checking the provider’s guidance.
- Keep a healthy encoder running. If the encoder process is still active, allow it to retry rather than restarting it immediately. Make sure automatic reconnect is enabled, and review its retry delay and maximum-attempt setting. These controls manage the encoder’s attempts after losing its output connection; they do not restore a broken VPS network path.
- Check the YouTube destination. Confirm the encoder is configured with the intended YouTube stream URL and stream key. Only reset the key if it is incorrect or may have been compromised; changing it routinely is not a normal reconnect step.
- Verify recovery in YouTube. Open Live Control Room and check that YouTube is receiving video and audio, that the preview appears, and that stream health is acceptable. Review the encoder log as well. Treat the stream as recovered only after the incoming feed is confirmed.
- If retries continue, investigate the route. Check for a continuing VPS connectivity problem or a network issue between the VPS and YouTube’s ingest server. Also confirm the VPS has enough upload capacity for the configured stream bitrate.
Set up reconnect controls in OBS
OBS Studio is one example; the exact encoder and version may differ. OBS has automatic reconnect controls, including a retry delay and maximum retries, but labels and locations can change between versions. Find them in the installed build’s output or streaming settings, and consult its current documentation if the controls are not where expected. Choose a delay and attempt limit appropriate to your setup rather than assuming retries are unlimited.
Reconnect controls only tell OBS what to do after an output connection is lost. They cannot bring back a VPS network connection, correct a wrong stream key, or guarantee YouTube resumes the same live broadcast. If the process exited during the reset, reconnect settings cannot restart it; restore the process using your own VPS and service-management procedures.
Check YouTube-compatible encoder output
If the connection remains unstable, confirm the encoder’s output settings as well as the network path. YouTube recommends RTMPS, a secure extension of RTMP. It also recommends constant bitrate (CBR) and a two-second keyframe interval; do not exceed four seconds. YouTube’s bitrate recommendations depend on codec, resolution, and frame rate, so use the recommendation that matches your actual output rather than treating one bitrate as universal. YouTube’s encoder settings and bitrate guidance also advises testing before going live and monitoring stream health during the event.
#1 Best Overall
- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Common causes and fixes
- The VPS is not fully back online: Check provider status and the VPS’s connectivity before changing encoder settings. Recovery commands vary by operating system, network manager, and provider.
- The encoder cannot reach YouTube ingest: A restored general internet connection does not rule out a problem on the route to the remote ingest server. OBS identifies intermittent disconnections and dropped frames as signs of a network issue between the host and ingest server. Check the route and upload capacity.
- The stream key or destination is wrong: Compare the configured URL and key with the intended YouTube stream. Reset a key only when it is wrong or compromised.
- The output is not sustainable: Match bitrate to codec, resolution, and frame rate, and check the VPS’s available upload capacity. A speed test can help assess whether the connection can sustain the output.
- The encoder reports retries but YouTube has no healthy feed: Use Live Control Room’s preview and health indicators to verify incoming video and audio. Do not treat retry logs as confirmation.
- The encoder process stopped: Reconnect options apply while the encoder is running. If it exited, restart it through the process or service setup you use on that VPS, then verify the feed in Live Control Room.
When you need the broadcast to keep running
If repeated VPS resets make a self-managed encoder difficult to rely on, StreamNeo is a cloud service for keeping a YouTube channel live 24/7 from uploaded videos. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live; the cloud loops the uploaded video without requiring a computer, OBS, or home connection to stay on. It is YouTube-only and plays uploaded videos rather than broadcasting from a camera.
Or let it run in the cloud
- Upload your recording or build a playlist.
- Add your YouTube stream key once.
- Go live; StreamNeo loops the video from the cloud.
Nothing has to stay on at home. Uploaded video streams at its original quality up to 4K 60fps, at one price per slot, with no re-encode or quality tiers. StreamNeo attempts automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card required. Monthly pricing is $9.99 per month. Start your free day with StreamNeo.
