For a prerecorded 1920×1080, 50 fps video, use FFmpeg to send H.264 video and AAC audio to the stream URL and key shown in YouTube Live Control Room. Pace the file in real time with -re, and set a 100-frame GOP for YouTube’s recommended two-second keyframe interval. YouTube does not publish a specific 1080p50 bitrate: 17 Mbps is a practical starting inference from its 1080p60 recommendation, not an official 50 fps figure.

Recommended FFmpeg command for 1080p50

This template is for an ordinary SDR 1920×1080 progressive source with audio. Replace INGEST_URL/STREAM_KEY with the exact ingest URL and private stream key from Live Control Room; do not share or publish the key.

ffmpeg -re -i input.mp4
  -c:v libx264 -preset veryfast -r 50 -pix_fmt yuv420p
  -b:v 17M -maxrate 17M -bufsize 34M
  -g 100 -keyint_min 100 -sc_threshold 0
  -c:a aac -b:a 128k -ar 48000 -ac 2
  -f flv "rtmps://INGEST_URL/STREAM_KEY"

The command uses RTMPS and FFmpeg’s FLV muxer for the RTMP workflow. Use the RTMPS endpoint supplied for your stream if both the endpoint and your FFmpeg build support it. The options shown are a template, not a verified configuration for every operating system, FFmpeg build, source file, network, or YouTube account.

What the important options do

  • -re reads the file at its native rate so FFmpeg sends it in real time rather than as fast as it can process it.
  • -c:v libx264 selects H.264 encoding. -r 50 requests a 50 fps output; check the input first so you do not unintentionally duplicate or drop frames.
  • -g 100 -keyint_min 100 -sc_threshold 0 sets a 100-frame GOP and disables scene-cut keyframes. At 50 fps, 100 frames equal two seconds.
  • -b:v 17M -maxrate 17M -bufsize 34M sets example video rate-control values. YouTube calls for CBR; these FFmpeg options create a constrained-rate configuration, so test the actual output rather than assuming every build and option combination behaves exactly like a platform preset.
  • -preset veryfast is an example encoder speed choice. The appropriate preset depends on whether your computer can encode in real time at the selected settings.
  • -pix_fmt yuv420p is an example pixel format for SDR output. Do not use it blindly on HDR material: first decide whether and how to convert the source’s color and dynamic range.
  • -c:a aac -b:a 128k -ac 2 encodes stereo AAC at 128 kbps. YouTube lists AAC or MP3 and recommends 128 kbps stereo audio; keep the output sample rate appropriate to the source. The command uses 48 kHz, but do not resample without a reason.

Choosing a bitrate for 1080p50

YouTube’s current H.264 guidance recommends 14 Mbps for 1080p30 and 17 Mbps for 1080p60; it has no separate 1080p50 row. The 17 Mbps video bitrate in the example is therefore a conservative starting inference from the higher adjacent frame-rate recommendation, not YouTube’s published 1080p50 recommendation. The cited guidance was accessed in 2026; the page does not state a publication year.

Elebase USB to USB C Adapter for iPhone 18 Pro Max,USBC Car Charger Adapter
  • Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
  • Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
  • Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
  • Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.

Actual needs vary with motion and visual complexity, and the connection must sustain the outgoing stream. Check your stable upload capacity and YouTube’s stream-health messages. If the stream is unstable, investigate network capacity, ingest URL, and key before changing encoder settings.

Check the source and set up the YouTube stream

  1. In YouTube Live Control Room, create or select the live stream and copy its current stream URL and key into your FFmpeg command or configuration. YouTube treats the key like a password.
  2. Inspect the input file’s frame size, frame rate, audio tracks, and SDR or HDR characteristics before forcing output options. Match settings to the source where practical; take care not to turn HDR into SDR accidentally.
  3. Run the command and confirm FFmpeg is encoding and sending data. The file should advance in real time because of -re.
  4. Start with a private or unlisted test. YouTube recommends testing with picture movement and audio similar to the intended stream, checking upload bitrate, and monitoring stream health.

YouTube’s published encoder guidance supports RTMP/RTMPS, H.264, H.265, or AV1 video, up to 60 fps, AAC or MP3 audio, and CBR. For ordinary SDR in this example, H.264 is the straightforward choice. Codec alternatives have different bitrate guidance and may depend on ingest and local build compatibility.

Keyframes, audio, and other YouTube settings

YouTube recommends a two-second keyframe frequency and says not to exceed four seconds. At 50 fps, the two-second interval is a 100-frame GOP, hence -g 100. YouTube’s general audio recommendations include AAC or MP3, 128 kbps stereo, and 44.1 kHz stereo; it lists 48 kHz for 5.1 audio. The example’s 48 kHz stereo setting is not a reason to resample a source unnecessarily.

YouTube’s advanced H.264 recommendations also include progressive scan, two B-frames, one reference frame, CABAC, square pixels, and Rec. 709 for SDR. The command does not explicitly set every one of these parameters. Inspect your encoder output and source characteristics rather than assuming the example enforces all platform recommendations.

Troubleshooting a 1080p50 FFmpeg live stream

  • FFmpeg connects but YouTube shows no incoming video: verify that the ingest URL and stream key match the current stream in Live Control Room, and that the key has not been exposed or replaced.
  • Stream health reports instability: compare the outgoing bitrate with reliable upload capacity, then review YouTube’s health messages. Check connection stability before lowering quality or changing encoding options.
  • The stream stops or runs faster than the recording: confirm -re is present for file input and that FFmpeg remains running. The option paces input; it does not itself keep a process alive after the file ends.
  • Output motion looks wrong: compare the source frame rate with 50 fps. Forcing -r 50 can alter cadence if the source is not actually 50 fps.
  • Colors or brightness look wrong: check whether the source is HDR or SDR before applying pixel-format or color conversions. The example is intended for ordinary SDR and does not define an HDR-to-SDR workflow.
  • The encoder cannot keep up: check CPU or hardware-encoder capability and the selected preset. The template’s veryfast setting is an example, not a guarantee of real-time encoding on a particular system.
  • Audio is missing or out of sync: inspect the source audio tracks and FFmpeg output, and test with representative audio before the event. Confirm that AAC is available in the installed build.

Copyright and YouTube channel rules

Before streaming prerecorded material, make sure you have the rights to its video and audio and that its use complies with YouTube’s policies. A live encoder setting cannot grant rights or guarantee that a stream or channel will be permitted. Test privately or unlisted first, but remember that a test does not replace checking the rights and rules that apply to your content.
