Best YouTube RTMP Bitrate for a 24/7 Hindi News Playlist on a Low-Speed Connection

For H.264 720p30, YouTube lists a 3 Mbps minimum and 8 Mbps recommended bitrate. Test your upload, use CBR and 2-second keyframes, and step down to 480p30 or 360p30 if needed.

For an H.264 stream at 720p and 30 fps, YouTube lists 3 Mbps as the minimum bitrate and 8 Mbps as its recommended bitrate. If your low-speed connection cannot carry 720p30 reliably at the minimum, step down to 480p30 or 360p30; YouTube lists 0.4 Mbps as the minimum for either. These are encoder settings, not a guarantee of uninterrupted streaming. Test the actual connection you will use and monitor YouTube’s stream health.

Choose a bitrate your upload can sustain

The best YouTube RTMP bitrate for a 24/7 Hindi news playlist is the highest setting your actual upload connection can carry reliably—not automatically the highest resolution available. YouTube’s live encoder settings page gives minimum and recommended H.264 bitrates by resolution and frame rate, but it does not specify a special bitrate for Hindi news or for 24/7 streams. The language and subject do not change the encoder values in its table.

YouTube advises: “Make sure you choose a quality that will result in a reliable stream based on your internet connection.” Its published minimum is a starting point, not a safe-margin calculation or a promise that a fluctuating connection will hold the stream.

YouTube’s H.264 live-stream bitrate settings

The figures below are YouTube’s published live-ingestion settings, not independent tests of a particular connection. Use the row matching your chosen resolution and frame rate.

Elebase USB to USB C Adapter for iPhone 18 Pro Max,USBC Car Charger Adapter
  • Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
  • Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
  • Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
  • Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Resolution and frame rate Minimum H.264 bitrate Recommended H.264 bitrate
720p30 3 Mbps 8 Mbps
720p60 3 Mbps 8 Mbps
480p30 0.4 Mbps 4 Mbps
360p30 0.4 Mbps 4 Mbps
1080p30 5 Mbps 14 Mbps

For a low-speed connection, 720p30 at 3 Mbps is the lowest YouTube-listed H.264 setting for that resolution and frame rate. If it is unstable in a representative test, lower the ingest resolution rather than assuming the minimum will work on every connection. YouTube’s table lists 0.4 Mbps minimum for 480p30 and 360p30; choose between them based on the picture quality you need and what your test supports.

These numbers are for live-stream ingestion. They are not YouTube’s separate bitrate recommendations for uploading a finished video.

Configure the encoder for YouTube

  • Protocol: RTMP or RTMPS. YouTube recommends RTMPS, the encrypted option.
  • Video codec: H.264.
  • Bitrate mode: CBR (constant bitrate).
  • Keyframes: set a 2-second interval; do not exceed 4 seconds.
  • Audio: AAC or MP3. YouTube lists 128 Kbps for stereo audio.

Use the matching ingest resolution, frame rate and bitrate from the table. YouTube transcodes incoming live streams into multiple output formats for viewers on different devices and networks, but that does not remove the need for your outgoing stream to reach YouTube reliably.

Test the connection and select a stable setting

  1. Measure from the real streaming setup. Check upstream capacity using the same internet connection and location that will feed the encoder. A plan’s advertised speed is not the same as a validated continuous upload.
  2. Test at the intended settings. For 720p30 H.264, start at YouTube’s 3 Mbps minimum and run a representative test with audio and movement similar to the playlist. A test should reflect the actual connection and content, not just a brief speed result.
  3. Check YouTube stream health. Review the health status and messages during the test. If the stream drops frames or health degrades at the chosen setting, do not treat the listed minimum as a guarantee.
  4. Step down if needed. Try 480p30 or 360p30 if 720p30 is not stable, then test again. YouTube lists 0.4 Mbps as the minimum H.264 bitrate for each of those rows.
  5. Use the tested setting for the live playlist. Continue monitoring stream health while it runs and respond to YouTube’s messages. The published settings page does not prescribe a special 24/7 operating procedure or guarantee uptime.

Common problems and what to check

  • Stream health is poor at 720p30: The connection may not reliably sustain the selected stream. Test a lower resolution, such as 480p30 or 360p30, and check health again.
  • Advertised upload speed looks sufficient, but the stream struggles: A headline plan speed does not validate the continuous upload from the encoder’s actual location. Measure and test using that same path.
  • Bitrate is set to the recommended value, but the connection cannot carry it: YouTube’s recommended figure is not a requirement to use regardless of connection quality. Choose a setting the test shows is reliable.
  • Keyframes are too far apart or bitrate is variable: Set CBR and a 2-second keyframe interval, keeping the interval at or below 4 seconds.
  • Viewers see varying playback formats: YouTube transcodes the live input for different devices and networks. That viewer-side conversion does not fix instability in the incoming stream.

Or let it run in the cloud

If maintaining a continuous upload from a low-speed home connection is the hard part, StreamNeo keeps an uploaded video or playlist live on YouTube from the cloud. Upload the recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. Nothing needs to stay on at home; it streams what you uploaded, at any quality up to 4K 60fps for one flat price per slot, and automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly billing is $9.99 per month. StreamNeo plays uploaded videos rather than broadcasting a camera feed, and streams to YouTube.
