Shuffle changes the order; it does not enforce a no-repeat period. For a local setup, load footage you are authorized to broadcast into OBS, enable playlist looping, and keep the computer and internet connection running. If you need a strict no-repeat window, use a system that tracks playback history and verify that behavior before relying on it.
What “without repeating clips” can—and cannot—mean
A finite playlist that plays continuously must eventually return to clips it has already shown. OBS can loop a playlist and optionally shuffle its order, but its documented controls do not provide a playback-history rule such as “do not play this clip again for six hours.” Be precise about the promise: you can offer a long, varied playlist with shuffled order, or rotate in new footage regularly; you cannot promise that shuffle prevents repeats.
If non-repetition for a defined period is essential, choose a playlist or scheduling system that records playback history, then independently confirm that it enforces the exact time window you need. The sources cited here do not establish a particular history-tracking product.
Build a looping nature-video playlist in OBS
Prepare footage and audio
Use footage and audio you created or have permission to broadcast. Keep license documents or written permissions for every visual and audio element. Assemble a varied playlist, vary clip lengths and subjects, and preview transitions so that cuts and changes in sound are intentional. These are production practices, not automatic OBS guarantees.

OBS’s documented local media formats include MP4, MOV, MKV, AVI, WebM, and others. Test every file before going live: confirm that the picture displays, audio behaves as expected, and the clip reaches its end normally. See OBS’s media sources documentation.
Add the VLC Video source
- Install VLC on the computer running OBS; the OBS VLC Video source requires it.
- In OBS, add a VLC Video source to the scene you plan to stream.
- Load your nature clips into that source’s playlist.
- Enable Loop Playlist so playback starts again when the playlist reaches its end.
- Enable Shuffle Playlist only if you want the playlist order randomized. Do not treat shuffle as a no-repeat timer.
- Preview the source through a complete sample of the playlist, including transitions, picture, and audio.
For one file rather than a multi-clip playlist, OBS’s Media Source has a Loop option. For multiple clips, VLC Video is the direct playlist route. The controls are described in the OBS documentation.

Connect OBS to YouTube Live
Enable live streaming before launch
In YouTube Studio, create or schedule an encoder stream, then connect OBS using the stream URL and stream key shown for that stream. First-time activation of live streaming can take up to 24 hours, according to YouTube’s encoder setup guidance, so do not leave activation until launch time.
Protect the stream key and confirm the feed
- Copy the stream URL and stream key from YouTube Studio’s stream setup.
- In OBS, open Settings > Stream, choose YouTube as the service, and enter the connection details. Keep the stream key private: it functions like a password.
- Start streaming from OBS and check that the encoder preview reaches YouTube’s Live Control Room.
- When the preview and stream status look right, go live in YouTube Studio.
If you think the key has been exposed, reset it in YouTube Studio and update OBS with the replacement. YouTube’s setup and connection guidance is at Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder.

Keep a 24/7 broadcast operating
With the local OBS method, the encoder computer, OBS, VLC playback, and outgoing internet connection all need to stay healthy. A restart, power loss, software problem, or network interruption can interrupt the broadcast; you are responsible for monitoring and recovery.
- Leave bandwidth headroom. YouTube recommends that total stream bitrate fit within available upload bandwidth and advises leaving about 20% room. Check upload capacity under the conditions in which you will actually stream; a speed result at another time does not guarantee a stable feed.
- Monitor picture and sound. YouTube advises monitoring stream quality. Check the encoder and YouTube preview for disruptions, black video, frozen playback, or missing audio.
- Plan archive handling. YouTube’s encoder setup page says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. Do not assume one uninterrupted 24/7 session will produce a complete automatic replay. If an archive matters, plan sessions and archive handling around that limit and verify current Studio behavior before launch.

Clear rights and understand monetization separately
Permission to use footage is not the same as monetization eligibility. YouTube warns that copyright enforcement or a Community Guidelines strike can terminate a live stream; Content ID claims may also be made after a stream ends if it is archived. Review YouTube’s live-stream copyright guidance and keep evidence of your rights.
YouTube’s monetization policy separately assesses originality, reused content, and repetitive or mass-produced “inauthentic” content. Permission alone does not necessarily make republished footage eligible. Make the channel’s own contribution clear—for example, through original narration, field notes, educational context, or meaningful editing—without assuming that any one treatment guarantees approval. Choose where the encoder runs
OBS on a local computer is practical if you already have the machine and media library, and want direct control of the playlist. Its trade-off is that the computer and connection must remain available, and you manage recovery yourself. A remote or managed encoder host can move the always-on work away from home, but check its cost, region, storage, recovery process, remote access, and playlist-history behavior before choosing. Cloud hosting is an operational option, not a YouTube requirement.
YouTube’s API distinguishes the incoming live stream feed from the viewer-facing broadcast and supports associating a stream with broadcasts; that is a technical model, not a recommendation of any particular host. See Google’s LiveStreams API documentation.
