If YouTube shows an audio warning beside the Live Control Room Health Indicator, use the exact warning and timestamp to diagnose the incoming stream first. Then listen to the outgoing feed and measure loudness separately: a valid codec and bitrate do not prove that music sounds balanced, and YouTube’s cited guidance does not set a LUFS target for 24/7 music streams.
What a YouTube stream health warning means
In Live Control Room, YouTube places live-stream error messages beside the Health Indicator and timestamps them. YouTube describes red errors as critical and yellow errors as moderate; read the full message rather than treating the indicator color as a diagnosis. Audio-related errors can concern missing audio, multiple audio streams, an unsupported codec, incorrect bitrate or sample rate, or more than two audio channels. YouTube’s live-stream troubleshooting guidance explains the messages and points to the current encoder settings.
A health warning is not a loudness reading. It can identify an ingest or encoding problem, but it does not tell you whether music is too quiet, too loud, distorted, or inconsistent. Conversely, audio can sound badly balanced while the incoming encoding meets the technical checks.
Why does my YouTube stream say no audio?
Start with the warning itself, then verify that the encoder is actually sending audio to YouTube. A silent source, incorrect routing, or an encoder configured without an audio track can cause missing audio. YouTube’s documented checks also flag multiple audio streams, unsupported codecs, incorrect bitrate or sample rate, and more than two channels.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
- Read the message and timestamp. Open Live Control Room and note the full text beside the Health Indicator. If the warning returns, compare its timestamps with encoder logs and any monitoring notes.
- Inspect the encoder output. Confirm that audio is enabled, the intended source is selected, and only one audio stream is being sent. Check that the output has one or two channels and uses a supported codec.
- Check the current settings guidance. YouTube’s encoder guidance lists AAC or MP3, recommends 128 Kbps for stereo audio, and gives 44.1 kHz as the stereo sample rate. For RTMP/RTMPS, its error guidance specifies AAC in the expected configuration when correcting an unsupported audio codec. Follow the current setting guidance for your protocol and the specific warning; platform requirements can change. See YouTube’s live-stream settings and error guidance.
- Check the source and route. Listen directly in the encoder, inspect the encoder dashboard for errors, and review a local recording or archive if available. If the sound is already absent or wrong there, investigate the source, routing, or mix before changing YouTube settings.
- Check the audience-facing playback. Use the preview and, where practical, listen to the live playback path. If the encoder and local archive sound right but viewers report a problem, investigate the outbound connection and audience playback path.
What audio bitrate should I use for YouTube live?
YouTube’s current encoder guidance lists a recommended stereo audio bitrate of 128 Kbps and a stereo sample rate of 44.1 kHz. It lists AAC or MP3 as audio codecs in encoder settings; its RTMP/RTMPS error guidance expects AAC when correcting an unsupported audio codec. Keep the audio stream to one track with mono or stereo channel count, as appropriate to the configuration. These figures address ingest configuration, not music loudness. Check YouTube’s current encoder settings guidance if your protocol or warning differs.
Why is my YouTube live stream audio warning showing?
Use a layer-by-layer check to avoid changing the wrong thing. YouTube recommends checking the stream directly in the encoder, looking for encoder errors, checking CPU load, and reviewing the local archive. Its live-stream guidance also recommends representative testing before going live and continuously monitoring audio and video quality. Troubleshooting advice and live-streaming tips cover these checks.

Separate source, encoder, and network faults
- Source or routing: If the encoder monitor or local recording is silent, clipped, or unbalanced, inspect the selected input and audio path.
- Encoder or CPU: If the local source is healthy but the outgoing encoder feed is not, check the encoder’s audio configuration, error dashboard, and CPU load.
- Outbound connection: If local output sounds healthy but the stream breaks up or viewers cannot hear it consistently, check upload capacity and interruptions. YouTube recommends 20% upload-bandwidth headroom beyond the total streaming bitrate; where applicable, account for both primary and backup stream bitrates. See YouTube’s streaming tips.
A codec, channel-count, or sample-rate warning calls for an encoding correction, not a loudness adjustment. A healthy encoder monitor is useful evidence, but it does not establish that every viewer’s playback is healthy.
What LUFS should a 24/7 YouTube music stream be?
The YouTube Help guidance cited here gives encoder and health-check settings, but no YouTube-specific LUFS target for continuous music. Do not treat either −14 LUFS or −23 LUFS as a YouTube Live requirement on that basis.

For a separate broadcast reference, the European Broadcasting Union’s EBU R 128 version 5.0, published in November 2023, recommends average programme loudness of −23 LUFS and the use of Loudness Range and Maximum True Peak Level descriptors. That is broadcast guidance, not a YouTube Live specification.
Use a meter to assess level consistency
A peak meter shows peaks, while a loudness meter helps assess perceived programme level over time. EBU loudness guidance describes Momentary readings over 400 ms, Short-term readings over 3 seconds, and Integrated loudness from start to stop. For a long-running music channel, evaluate representative material and transitions rather than assuming one brief reading describes the whole programme. Use listening alongside measurements to identify audible distortion, abrupt level changes, or quiet passages; adjust the mix or gain to address what you actually find.

A practical start-up and ongoing check
- Before starting: Test with representative music, confirm the encoder’s audio source and settings, and check the encoder output for clean playback.
- At launch: Start the encoder, inspect the Live Control Room preview and Health Indicator, and listen to the audience-facing playback path.
- During operation: Keep a person or an alerting process responsible for checking stream health and audio quality. YouTube advises continuous monitoring, but its guidance does not promise a 24/7 service-level guarantee or say that a warning-free indicator catches every audible fault.
These are general live-stream practices, not a guarantee of uninterrupted operation. A warning-free indicator does not certify consistent musical loudness.
Or let it run in the cloud

Frequently Asked Questions
Can a warning-free Health Indicator confirm that music sounds right to listeners?
No. The indicator reports stream-health information, not a complete assessment of audible balance or every viewer’s playback.
Does the EBU −23 LUFS recommendation apply to YouTube Live?
It is broadcast loudness guidance, not a YouTube Live requirement.
