You can run a continuous ASMR tapping stream from a spare PC by sending its camera or still-image scene and microphone audio to YouTube through an encoder such as OBS. First confirm your channel can live stream, then create an encoder broadcast, configure and test the audio and video, and keep the PC powered, awake, online, and monitored. A spare PC can do the job, but local hardware and internet failures can still interrupt a 24/7 stream.
1. Confirm your channel can live stream
Before configuring OBS, open YouTube Studio and check that live streaming is available for your channel. YouTube requires a verified channel and says it must not have had live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. See YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility and getting-started guidance.
If live access is unavailable, resolve the channel requirement before planning a continuous broadcast. Do not assume that installing an encoder grants permission to stream.
2. Create an encoder broadcast and protect its key
- Open YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room. Start a live stream and select the encoder streaming workflow. Configure the broadcast details and audience setting for the content you intend to show.
- Copy the stream key into OBS. In OBS, open Settings → Stream, select YouTube as the service, and enter the key using the available connection method. Treat the key like a password: anyone who obtains it may be able to send a feed to your broadcast. Do not post it in a video, screenshot, chat, or public document.
- Keep the broadcast and incoming feed straight. The broadcast is the viewer-facing YouTube event; the stream is the incoming audiovisual feed from OBS. YouTube’s developer documentation explains the distinction and the workflow: Understanding broadcasts and streams.
- Confirm the preview before going public. Start OBS output and check the Live Control Room preview, audio, and status before making the stream public. Use a private or unlisted test first where appropriate.
3. Build a simple OBS scene for tapping
Choose the picture
Create one scene with either a stable image or a live camera view. A static visual reduces moving parts, while a live view can show the tapping action. Check that the picture is framed as intended and does not reveal anything private in the room. YouTube’s current encoder recommendations are at YouTube’s current encoder recommendations; test your actual setup instead of assuming a preset will suit all systems, since no universal resolution, bitrate, or encoder profile suits every spare PC and upload connection.

Capture the sound you actually want viewers to hear
Connect a microphone compatible with the spare PC, select it in OBS as the audio input, and listen to a test recording or private stream. Place it where it captures the tapping tone you want without making unwanted room noise dominant. A USB microphone is one possible connection type, not a requirement; compatibility, secure placement, room sound, and the PC’s available ports matter more than an unsupported model recommendation.
Before streaming, check for clipping, hum, handling noise, accidental bumps, and excessive silence. Adjust the input level while listening to the real tapping in the room. A level that looks acceptable in OBS is not a substitute for listening to the resulting audio.

Pick settings by testing, not by guessing
There is no one set of resolution, bitrate, keyframe interval, or encoder settings for every PC and connection. Start with YouTube’s current recommendations, then test whether the spare PC can encode the chosen output and whether its upload connection can sustain it. OBS’s help portal provides general setup guidance, including encoder considerations: OBS Help Portal. Hardware encoding may be appropriate when available, but that alone does not guarantee reliable 24/7 operation.
4. Test the whole stream before leaving it running
- Record locally in OBS and inspect both the image and tapping audio.
- Run a private or unlisted YouTube test and verify the Live Control Room preview, stream status, and sound on another device if possible.
- Let the setup run long enough to notice heat, dropped network connection, audio drift, storage pressure, or other issues relevant to your equipment.
- Check the stream key and broadcast selection again before switching to a public stream.
These checks can catch setup errors, but they do not establish that a spare PC will stay online continuously. YouTube’s live-streaming overview is at Get started with live streaming.

5. Prepare the spare PC for continuous operation
- Power: Use a stable power source and make sure the PC is not set to sleep or hibernate during the stream. Keep ventilation unobstructed.
- Network: Prefer a stable connection and avoid relying on a network arrangement that routinely disconnects or changes during the session.
- System behavior: Prevent scheduled restarts, updates, or notifications from unexpectedly stopping or obscuring the stream where your operating system allows it.
- Monitoring: Check both OBS and the YouTube Live Control Room for encoder, connection, or stream warnings. Decide how you will notice and respond if either reports a problem.
These are precautions, not an uptime guarantee. A local computer, its power, the network, OBS, and YouTube’s ingest can each be a point of interruption.
6. Use original or cleared audio and visuals
YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. A detected match can replace the live picture with a placeholder, interrupt or terminate the stream, or lead to a copyright strike. A license does not necessarily prevent interruption if the rights holder has not allowlisted your channel. For a tapping stream, using your own tapping audio and creator-owned visuals keeps the rights situation simpler. Review YouTube’s guidance on copyright issues with live streams before adding music, clips, or other third-party material.

7. Set the audience accurately
Choose the audience designation that correctly reflects the content; do not select made for kids or not made for kids just to gain or avoid a feature. YouTube says made-for-kids settings disable or restrict features including live chat, and personalized ads are disabled. Check YouTube’s live-streaming restrictions guidance for the current effects and restrictions.
