What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Start by matching the disconnect time in FFmpeg’s log with the timestamped stream-health message in YouTube Live Control Room. Then verify the event’s ingest URL and stream key, check encoder settings, measure outbound capacity from the VPS, and investigate provider-side network faults only if the evidence points there. A Mumbai location alone does not identify the cause.
1. Capture the failure before changing settings
Make one change at a time. First preserve enough evidence to tell whether the failure comes from YouTube ingest, FFmpeg, or the VPS network.
- Record the disconnect time in UTC and save the complete FFmpeg output around it.
- Save the FFmpeg command and version/build configuration, but redact the stream key and any secret URL components before sharing.
- Note whether FFmpeg exits, stays running, or begins retrying, and record any exit code.
- Open YouTube Live Control Room and record the stream-health status, exact message, and timestamp. YouTube’s health interface reports specific errors; critical and moderate messages can have different effects. YouTube: Fix streaming issues
Compare timestamps across the YouTube report, FFmpeg output, and server logs. A YouTube ingest or format message points in a different direction from a socket write failure or a process exit.
2. Verify the YouTube event and ingest settings
Confirm the URL and key belong to the active event
In the intended YouTube event’s Live Control Room, check the stream URL and key against the values configured in FFmpeg. YouTube’s setup guidance directs operators to enter the Live Control Room URL and key in their encoder. A stream key is a password and address: do not paste it into a public log, support ticket, or article. If it may have been exposed, reset it in Live Control Room and update the FFmpeg configuration. - Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Check the stream format and encoder settings
Use YouTube’s current encoder recommendations as a baseline: RTMP or RTMPS ingest, a supported audio/video codec combination, constant bitrate (CBR), and a keyframe interval of two seconds, not exceeding four seconds. YouTube: Live encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions
If Live Control Room reports an incorrect format or another specific ingest fault, follow that message rather than changing unrelated settings. Confirm the actual codec, resolution, frame rate, bitrate, and keyframe interval produced by the FFmpeg command; do not assume a setting is active just because it appears in a script or wrapper.

3. Test the VPS’s outbound capacity
The relevant connection is the VPS’s upload path to the YouTube ingest service—not your home connection, the VPS provider’s advertised port speed, or a speed test run from your laptop. YouTube says the total streaming bitrate should fit available upload bandwidth, recommends leaving 20% headroom, and warns that connectivity disruption can break a stream. YouTube: Live encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions YouTube: Streaming tips
- Measure upload capacity from the VPS to a suitable measurement endpoint. Repeat measurements if capacity varies over time.
- During the failure window, collect available evidence of packet loss, TCP retransmissions, or connection resets.
- Compare the configured total stream bitrate with measured outbound capacity, allowing the recommended 20% headroom.
- If the stream is close to capacity, lower bitrate or resolution as a controlled diagnostic change, then observe whether stability changes.
Use YouTube’s bitrate table only after confirming codec, resolution, and frame rate. It gives recommendations, not proof that a particular VPS route can sustain a bitrate. A bitrate reduction that improves stability is useful evidence, but does not by itself establish whether the original limit was instance capacity, contention, or routing.

4. Separate FFmpeg errors from transport breaks
Read the lines immediately before and after the failure. Classify what FFmpeg reports before editing the command:
- Encoder or muxer error: investigate the command’s input, codec, output format, and supported options.
- RTMP server response or ingest rejection: check the event URL/key and the specific YouTube health message.
- Socket write failure, timeout, or reset: investigate connectivity and the VPS egress path, while checking whether YouTube reported an ingest issue at the same time.
- FFmpeg process exit: capture the final error and exit code; a stopped process is different from a connected process that cannot deliver packets.
Do not treat FFmpeg’s HTTP reconnect, reconnect_at_eof, reconnect_on_network_error, or reconnect_streamed options as a general fix for RTMP output disconnects. FFmpeg documents these as HTTP protocol options; its RTMP documentation describes RTMP-specific variants and URL syntax. Check the documentation and help output for the exact installed build before using an option. Even a reconnect mechanism cannot necessarily restore a particular live session or explain why the connection failed. FFmpeg protocols documentation

5. When to involve the VPS provider
Escalate when YouTube’s health report does not indicate a configuration or ingest fault and FFmpeg logs show a network-level interruption, or when measurements show loss, resets, or a route problem.
Send the provider:
- UTC failure timestamps and the VPS instance identifier or plan;
- the destination host and port, with secret path components removed, plus the source IP;
- relevant FFmpeg log lines, with the stream key redacted;
- packet-loss, retransmission, reset, or capacity observations; and
- a traceroute or MTR captured from the VPS, if available.
Ask whether the instance or its egress route had a relevant incident at those times. The information available here does not establish a Mumbai-specific outage or identify a particular provider fault or best ingest hostname. Treat location and provider routing as hypotheses to test against logs and provider data, not as diagnoses.
