To repeat a guided breathing video on YouTube Live, loop the prerecorded file in an encoder such as OBS Studio—not in YouTube’s video player. In OBS, add the file as a Media Source, turn on Loop, and keep that source active in the scene you send to YouTube. This restarts the file after playback ends, but it cannot guarantee a frame-perfect edit or uninterrupted playback for every viewer. Prepare the join, test the stream, and monitor its health.
What “without a gap” can—and cannot—mean
There are several separate links in the chain: the file restarts, its ending joins smoothly to its beginning, OBS continues sending the feed, and YouTube delivers it to each viewer. OBS’s Loop setting addresses only the first. A pause or jump can still come from an abrupt edit, an encoder or network interruption, YouTube delivery buffers, or a viewer’s playback position.
- Source loop: OBS restarts the file when playback completes.
- Smooth join: the last and first video frames and audio samples fit together without an obvious cut. The checkbox does not create or verify this edit.
- Continuous delivery: OBS keeps sending a signal and YouTube continues delivering it. Testing, monitoring, adequate upload capacity, and a reliable connection help, but do not guarantee zero interruption.
- Same cue for every viewer: this is not assured. A viewer can pause or rewind using DVR and fall behind the current breathing cue.
OBS describes the Loop property as specifying whether the file plays again once playback has completed. Its documentation does not promise a frame-perfect transition. OBS Media Sources documentation
Set up a continuous loop in OBS
1. Check and prepare the video
Use a format supported by the Media Source in your installed OBS version. OBS lists video formats including MP4, TS, MOV, FLV, MKV, AVI, GIF, and WebM, along with common audio formats. Watch and listen to the ending followed by the beginning. For a guided breathing video, check that a spoken cue, count, music, or visual pulse does not cut abruptly or imply an unintended rhythm at the join. That is a media-quality check, not medical guidance.

2. Add the file as a looping Media Source
- In OBS, select the scene that will be sent to YouTube.
- In the Sources panel, add a Media Source and select the prerecorded file.
- Enable Loop in the Media Source properties, then confirm the source is visible and active in the outgoing scene.
- Watch the OBS preview through at least one end-to-start transition. If the join is distracting, revise the file rather than relying on the Loop setting to smooth it.

3. Connect OBS to YouTube Live
- In YouTube Studio, open Live Control Room and create or schedule an encoder stream.
- Copy the stream URL and stream key shown for that stream into OBS’s stream settings.
- Protect the stream key like a password: it authorizes an encoder to send video to your channel. If it is exposed, replace it in YouTube Studio and update OBS.
- Start the encoder and check the YouTube preview before making the stream public or starting the scheduled event.
First-time live streaming may take up to 24 hours to become available. YouTube says the channel must be verified and must not have had a live-stream restriction in the previous 90 days. These are YouTube’s stated eligibility and enablement conditions, not the expected startup time for an already-enabled channel. 4. Select and test encoder settings
Use encoder settings appropriate to the resolution and frame rate of your video and the upload capacity available to the encoder. YouTube publishes recommended bitrates and settings by resolution and frame rate; consult its current table rather than assuming one bitrate fits every file. YouTube recommends RTMPS for encrypted ingestion. Leave upload headroom, check the stream preview, test with representative audio and movement, and monitor stream health during the broadcast.
YouTube’s network tips recommend leaving 20% upload-bandwidth headroom beyond the stream bitrate. This is a recommendation, not a guarantee against interruptions. A reliable wired Ethernet connection may help if Wi-Fi is unstable and your computer and router support it, but a cable is optional and cannot prevent every drop. 5. Decide whether to enable DVR
DVR lets viewers pause, rewind, and resume at their paused position. Someone who pauses can therefore be behind the live breathing cue when they resume. Review the DVR setting in YouTube’s live-stream settings: turning DVR off removes live rewind, while a recording may still become available after the stream. Choose based on whether viewer control or staying near the current cue matters more for your session. Turn on DVR on live streams
6. Plan for the archive limit
YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived; a stream over 12 hours may not be captured at all. If keeping a recording matters, make a local recording as well. Dividing a longer broadcast into separate sessions may interrupt the public live stream, so it is not a way to preserve an uninterrupted broadcast while avoiding the archive limit. Troubleshoot a visible pause, jump, or stopped stream
