To find the song behind a copyright match, wait until your livestream ends and the recording is archived. In YouTube Studio, open Content, filter by Claims, locate the livestream recording, then open See details under Restrictions. The claim details show the claimed material and claimant.

First, tell a live interruption from an archived-video claim

YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. A match during the broadcast can trigger a warning; if the content continues, YouTube may show a placeholder image, interrupt the stream, or terminate it. That live event is different from a Content ID claim on the archived recording: YouTube says those claims are made after the stream is complete and the creator chooses to archive the video. YouTube’s live-stream copyright guidance explains the distinction.

If the stream was interrupted, check Studio for restrictions or a strike. To identify a song and the party claiming it, inspect the archived recording’s claim details using the steps below.

Find the claim in YouTube Studio on desktop

  1. Sign in to YouTube Studio.
  2. Choose Content from the left menu.
  3. Open the filter bar and choose Claims.
  4. Find the livestream recording. In its Restrictions column, hover over Claims and select See details.
  5. In the claim details, open Content used to inspect the claimed portion. Check Claimant to see who asserted the claim.

YouTube’s claim lookup instructions include the current navigation and detail fields: See who claimed your video. Studio labels can change over time.

Review a claim in the YouTube Studio mobile app

  1. Open the YouTube Studio app and go to Content.
  2. Select the affected livestream recording. Its Restrictions label should indicate a copyright issue.
  3. Tap Restrictions, then Review issues.
  4. Select the relevant claim to see the copyright owner and available actions.

The app’s claim-review route is also described in YouTube’s mobile guidance.

Read the claim details carefully

A recording can have more than one claim. Different parties may claim different segments, and claimants can vary by country or region. Check the segment and the relevant claim rather than assuming one notice accounts for the entire recording. An unfamiliar claimant or rights society does not by itself prove the claim is invalid. YouTube’s claim guidance notes that claims can differ by segment and region.

A Content ID claim is not the same as a copyright takedown. A claim is a rights-management action that may affect where a video can be viewed or whether it can be monetized; a takedown is a copyright removal request. The claim’s effect may be limited by geography. See YouTube’s explanation of claims and its guidance on removing claimed content.

Choose a next step based on what you find

If the claim is accurate and you want to edit the recording

Depending on the claim and the options Studio offers, you may be able to trim the claimed segment, replace the claimed audio with audio from the YouTube Audio Library, erase the song, or erase all video audio. Read the proposed change before saving: YouTube says edits saved in Studio Editor cannot be reverted. Review the available actions in YouTube’s claimed-content removal guidance.

If you believe the claim or timestamps are inaccurate

Review the claim details and the claimed portion first. YouTube directs creators who encounter inaccurate timestamps to contact Creator Support. Do not treat an unfamiliar claimant as sufficient evidence that the claim is wrong. YouTube’s claim guidance covers the claim details and timestamp issue.

If you had permission to use the song during the live stream

For licensed third-party material, YouTube advises asking the rights owner to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist. A license alone may not prevent a live interruption if the channel is not allowlisted. See YouTube’s live-stream copyright guidance.
