To end an encoder-based YouTube broadcast without deleting its reusable setup, stop sending content from the encoder. For a scheduled event, click End Stream in YouTube Live Control Room, then stop the encoder. Leave the saved settings and stream key in place if you want to use them again; ending the broadcast, reusing its configuration, and deleting its archived video are separate actions.
End the broadcast without deleting its setup
First identify whether you are ending an ongoing encoder stream or a scheduled event. YouTube documents different steps for these workflows, and encoder auto-start and auto-stop settings affect whether the encoder can start or stop the stream. Check those settings in Live Control Room before acting. See YouTube’s guide to managing live stream settings.
Ongoing encoder stream
- Stop sending content from the encoder. This is YouTube’s documented instruction for ending an encoder broadcast: “To end the stream, stop sending content from your encoder.”
- Leave the saved stream settings and key in place if you intend to use them again. Do not select a delete action when your goal is only to stop the live broadcast.
Scheduled stream
- In Live Control Room, open the scheduled event you want to end.
- Click End Stream, then stop sending content from the encoder, following YouTube’s encoder-stream instructions.
- Keep the saved setup and key if you want to reuse them for a later broadcast.
What remains after you stop
Think of the live broadcast, its saved configuration and stream key, and any recorded archive as separate things. YouTube says prior stream settings, including the key, can be loaded again. Its settings guide also describes custom keys and a Reuse settings option. Reuse settings creates a new stream populated with previous settings; the cited guidance does not say that it reopens the same ended broadcast or its archive.
Ending a broadcast does not itself mean deleting an archived video. YouTube’s archive guidance treats changing an archive’s visibility or deleting the archived video as separate actions in video management: Archive live streams.

- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Protect the recording before ending a 24/7 stream
If the footage matters, make a local recording. YouTube says streams shorter than 12 hours can be automatically archived, but streams exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. A continuous 24/7 broadcast is longer than that threshold, so do not rely on YouTube to produce a complete archive. The same archive guidance recommends keeping a local backup.
Common problems and what to check
- The stream does not stop when you stop the encoder: check the stream’s auto-start and auto-stop settings. YouTube documents that these determine whether streaming can be started or stopped from the encoder; behavior can therefore vary by configuration. Review the stream settings guidance.
- You cannot find the old setup for another broadcast: use the saved settings or Reuse settings workflow. The result is a new stream with copied settings, not a reopening of the ended event.
- The archive is missing or incomplete: streams exceeding 12 hours may not be captured. Keep a local recording when preservation matters; YouTube’s general archive guidance does not guarantee a complete archive for a 24/7 transmission.
- You ended the stream but are worried you deleted the video: ending the live broadcast and changing or deleting an archived video are separate operations. Check the video-management interface before taking any archive action.
